Chapter 232: Chapter 161 Zhen Yue_3
The siblings naturally nodded in agreement.
Qian Sigui and Lady Wong heard the commotion and hurried out. Wong Liang, who occasionally visited their home, was considered an esteemed guest, and the arrival of Liang Jinzhao and Song Huaijin, these two young masters, made them incredibly nervous. They quickly offered seats, served tea, and brought out snacks.
Qian Sigui also climbed out of bed to entertain the esteemed guests.
Song Huaijin said to him, "My grandmother mentioned that your family sends her fermented rice and cakes several times a year. She really enjoys them, so thank you. She invites you to come and play at the manor tomorrow."
Qian Sigui bowed again in thanks, expressing how honoured he was by the Old Madam’s recollection, and assured that they would definitely visit the manor tomorrow to pay their respects.
The courtyard was small to begin with; with so many hosts and now five more long-limbed individuals, it felt even more cramped.
Looking around the small courtyard and the low ceiling of the small room, Liang Jinzhao and Song Huaijin did not enter or sit. The house seemed too crowded and stuffy, nothing like the fun they had experienced in Huaxi Village.
Therefore, they said to the two younger siblings, "Let’s go to the Wuxi Tea Building, it’s spacious and cool there."
Qian Yixiu and Qian Yeejin had been eager to go out, and they also didn’t want these two visitors to leave their home in disarray. Upon the invitation, they both nodded in agreeance. Seeing so many people accompanying them, Qian Sangui also nodded his consent.
Song Huaijin then suggested to take Tiaotiao out for some fun, as the half-grown children were interested in the fierce dog.
Wan Dazhong shamelessly said, "I have nothing to do here, so I might as well go out and have fun with you all."
Seeing the envious looks from Qian Manting and Qian Manpo, the Qian Yeejin siblings naturally brought them along as well.
The group boarded the carriage, with Liang Jinzhao and Song Huaijin sitting in the front and Benben squatting at their feet. The four children squeezed together in the back.
This carriage wasn’t the ramshackle one Wong Liang had driven from Song Village, but a grand one with a teak canopy and carved flower windows all around, airy and cool without curtains. Inside the carriage were rows of seats in the front and back, making for a very comfortable ride.
Riding in this impressive carriage, Qian Yixiu felt the experience reminded her of sitting in a Benz in her previous life.
Wan Dazhong and a few servants took another carriage behind them.
Upon reaching the somewhat bustling street corner, the group disembarked to walk and explore. The city was much hotter than the countryside, and it was the middle of the afternoon. Benben stuck out his long tongue due to the heat, frightening some pedestrians enough to keep their distance, which amused the half-grown children.
Despite the scorching heat, there were vendors selling sugar figurines, chilled cakes, mung bean jelly, herbal tea, and tofu pudding...
Whenever Wan Dazhong saw Qian Yeejin looking intently at something, he’d pull out money to buy it. The treats were all for the four children; Liang Jinzhao and the others did not have the audacity to eat and stroll at the same time.
Being more frugal, Qian Sigui’s family did not indulge often, so for Qian Manting and Qian Manpo, this was their first time eating snacks to their heart’s content, and they were quite delighted.
They even came across a monkey show, and the children rushed to join the crowd in excitement.
The little macaque Chouchou listened to its master’s commands and performed various tricks, eliciting laughter from the crowd. Even Qian Yeejin was prompted by his sister to quickly give money.
In fondness for the similar, the little macaque reminded Qian Yixiu of Monkey Brother back home, so she generously threw more than twenty Copper Coins. Before leaving home, for convenience, she had asked Grandfather Sangui for some coins and exchanged her big silver ingot into smaller denominations.
As the coins were scattered, the macaque even knew to bow in her direction, once again bringing laughter to all onlookers.
After watching the monkey show, they continued on their way. At another street corner, they saw a crowd encircling something. Driven by curiosity, they squeezed in and saw two young sisters kneeling on the ground with a woman holding a two or three-year-old boy sitting behind them.
The little boy in the woman’s arms had a bright red face, half-open eyes, and cracked lips.
The younger sister seemed about six or seven years old, while the older one was around eleven or twelve, with a piece of grass in her hair.
According to the surrounding onlookers, it appeared that the sisters’ brother was ill, but the family could not afford his medical expenses. The desperate mother, seeking treatment for her son, had no choice but to sell her older daughter.
This scene, once witnessed in television dramas, was now unfolding before their eyes.
Qian Yixiu could not bear it and said, "How heartless must a mother be to be willing to sell her own daughter."
The woman lifted her waxen yellow face, her swollen eyes dry from crying, and said, "The children’s father died of illness, and we have sold all we could. We haven’t eaten a grain of rice since yesterday. If I can sell her to a good family, we’ll have the money to treat her brother’s illness, and she will have food to eat."
