Chapter 227: Chapter 160 Pan Zi’an_1

The man standing beside Liang Jinzhao was dressed in magnificent robes with wide sleeves, his jade-like face adorned with a touch of beard, and an air about him like an orchid, unparalleled in elegance. As soon as he alighted from the carriage, he commanded the attention of everyone around.

Qian Yixiu did not witness this scene, but had she seen it, she would surely have been surprised by how familiar this man looked. Even the handsome Uncle Liang, when standing beside him, seemed like a green and unripe passerby.

It was not Uncle Liang’s fault that he served as but a backdrop; truly, this man’s appearance and aura were so transcendent and extraordinary that anyone by his side would seem dull in comparison.

The few individuals following behind were servants.

Upon reaching the front of the Treasure Silver Building, the middle-aged man looked up at the signboard, then strutted in.

Shopkeeper Zhao, upon noticing the dress and demeanor of the two lead individuals, was fully alert with eager anticipation to serve them.

The middle-aged man said, "I’ve heard that your Silver Tower has a golden pearl from the South Seas. Might I take a look at it? Rest assured, I’m just looking, and I will not compel a sale."

His voice was cool and carried a hint of languidness.

This man was too outstanding, and the pearl purple gold crown on his head sufficiently indicated his status. Thus, even without introductions, those who had heard of him could somewhat guess his identity.

Further hearing his request, Shopkeeper Zhao became even more certain of who he was. He must be Pan Zi’an, the Prince Consort Pan of the Great Qian Kingdom, and its foremost scholar.

Prince Consort Pan was not only the leading scholar of the Great Qian Kingdom but also its most handsome man. Born into an aristocratic family, his talents and appearances were unmatched, and despite being past forty, no one had replaced the "two number ones" he held.

He had passed the imperial examination with the highest distinction at the age of sixteen, a young man making his mark early. Later, he caught the eye of Princess Zi Yang, who brought him in as her Prince Consort, and he was directly bestowed the title of Earl of Rongen without having to join the Hanlin Academy.

Pan Zi’an, who possessed the talent of a prime minister, did not continue the official path but instead devoted himself to landscape and painting, reaching unmatched achievements in that art, revered by all scholars across Daqian.

Prince Consort Pan had a well-known hobby, which was collecting various types of pearls.

For the Silver Tower to be graced by his presence was the utmost honor. If he praised their collection and purchased some pearls, the shop’s reputation would soar even higher. Shopkeeper Zhao, without the slightest hesitation, quickly bowed and invited them to a private room on the second floor with a warm smile.

Before going upstairs, Shopkeeper Zhao whispered a few words to the protectors and assistants, instructing them to block the entrance and prevent others from coming in.

The private room was carpeted with plush rugs, and the furniture was made of rosewood. Once the two of them were seated and served tea, Shopkeeper Zhao went to the third floor to retrieve the golden pearl.

This golden pearl was locked in a safe on the third floor, accessible only by the keys held by the owner in Capital City and Shopkeeper Zhao. This iron safe attached to the wall contained the three treasures of the Treasure Silver Building.

Apart from the golden pearl, the other two treasures were valued at over ten thousand taels of silver each. The golden pearl was ranked among these treasures primarily due to its rarity, although it was not as large or as pricey as some others.

Moments later, Shopkeeper Zhao returned to the private room, carrying a redwood tray. On the tray was a carved redwood jewelry box. Upon opening the box, a pea-sized golden pearl rested on the purple velvet, its round shape and golden color shone brightly enough to mirror a person’s reflection.

Prince Consort Pan extended his long and fair fingers to pick up the golden pearl. He studied it closely under the light for a while and then smiled, "Hmm, it’s well-rounded, noble, and elegant; truly a treasure indeed."

He then turned his head and explained to Liang Jinzhao where the true beauty of this pearl lay, with Liang Jinzhao nodding frequently as if understanding.

After admiring the pearl, Prince Consort Pan gracefully returned the golden pearl to Shopkeeper Zhao. Regretfully shaking his head he said, "It’s a pity, your store does not sell it."

As Shopkeeper Zhao put the pearl away, he smiled and said, "Just today, we acquired a few excellent quality pearls. In particular, one of them is roughly six fen in weight and has a delicate rosy luster that’s quite attractive. The person who sold the pearls mentioned that he had acquired them from a foreigner many years ago, and indeed, the pearls differ notably from the East Pearls and South Pearls."

"Oh, then please bring it quickly," Prince Consort Pan’s eyes showed a glimmer of delight.

After securing and locking the golden pearl on the third floor, Shopkeeper Zhao brought in a silver plate to the private room. Inside the silver plate was a large round box with gold lacquer detail. Opening the round box, five pearls—one large and four small—were scattered on a blue velvet lining.

Prince Consort Pan first picked up the larger pearl and admired it, nodding in satisfaction. He then turned to Liang Jinzhao and said, "Zhaozhao, take a look, this pearl has a few strands of gold within, like golden light piercing through clouds, truly eye-catching. This is different from the impurities and spots on other pearls which tarnish them. These strands of gold embellish the pearl further..."
