Chapter 208: Chapter 153 Poor Monk isn’t Poor_1

Qian Mandie and Qian Manxia went to the cottage to whisper, and Qian Yixiu considerately did not follow them. Instead, she took Qian Yiduo by the hand to the old locust tree in the courtyard.

The two little girls sat facing each other on small stools, frowning with pouty lips.

When the wind blew, the leaves above their heads rustled, and Yixiu was reminded of the scene from last autumn.

Three beautiful young ladies sat embroidering under the tree, whispering into each other’s ears—they must have been gossiping about some amusing matters, giggling non-stop. Back then, they were like three freshly bloomed flowers, dazzling and radiant, and Mandie, being older and fuller, appeared even more vibrant.

Their joyful laughter seemed to have just drifted by with the wind when Mandie became a lean, divorced woman filled with resentment.

The hurt she suffered at the Yang family and her worries about her divorced status, along with the fear for her future life, could not be dispelled in a moment. What she needed was the care and consolation of her family and a fulfilling life to rebuild her confidence.

Yiduo said to Yixiu in a sorrowful whisper, "My little aunt is so pitiable. She keeps crying and can’t even eat her meals. When I marry a big landlord in the future, I’ll bring her to my husband’s house to enjoy herself. She’ll eat meat every day and fatten up a bit."

Yixiu nodded and said, "Duo Duo is really a good child. But Auntie Die is so pretty and hardworking. Your family will get richer too, and there will surely be good families willing to marry her."

"Really? Can my aunt marry again?" Duo Duo asked with wide, puzzled eyes.

"Of course, she can," Yixiu assured her, "Auntie Die is so wonderful, there will definitely be good families eager to marry her."

To Duo Duo, Yixiu was an idol, so if her idol said it could happen, then her aunt would surely find a good family.

Duo Duo smiled brightly, as if her aunt was going to get married tomorrow.

Such a real, adorable child. Yixiu squeezed the little girl’s chubby cheeks hard, making her giggle uncontrollably with a silly smile.

At noon, Lady Wang invited Qian Manxia and Yixiu to have lunch in the courtyard and whispered to Manxia, "Auntie Die should probably not go out much. Auntie Xia can come to the courtyard more often to hang out and keep her company. Let Xiaoyu also visit more often. The child is good at embroidery; she can teach Auntie Die more."

Manxia nodded in agreement; she was thinking the same. Many of Mandie’s inner thoughts and grievances she was willing to share only with her, even opting not to speak much to Lady Wang.

At the dinner table, Yiduo considerately picked a big chunk of braised pork with some fat for Mandie and said, "Auntie, don’t be sad. Sister Embroidery said that you’re pretty, and our family will grow richer. Surely in the future, a good family will want to marry you."

Mandie blushed and scolded, "Duo Duo, what nonsense are you talking about?" She also gave Yixiu a reproachful look, "Xiuxiu, you’re talking nonsense too."

Yixiu earnestly replied, "Xiuxiu isn’t talking nonsense. Auntie Die is pretty and talented with her hands; it’s hard to find another like her in ten villages."

Mandie’s face grew even redder with shyness, and she lowered her head to continue eating.

Old woman Qian and Lady Wang laughed happily; their once frowning faces now beaming with smiles, full of creases.

Lady Wang gave Yixiu a chunk of meat, smiling, "Xiuxiu speaks well; the words of a child are the most effective. Here, have some meat. Visit the courtyard more often in the future; I’ll make you delicious food."

Old woman Qian, shaking, jabbed her chopsticks several times in the dish before picking up a chunk of meat. She tremblingly placed it in Yixiu’s bowl, saying with a twisted mouth, "Good, good child, well said."

Being favored with meat from Old woman Qian, Yixiu was pleasantly surprised and did not mind her saliva on the chopsticks. If her young mother had seen this, she would surely have thought herself not refined enough. It was good that Old woman Qian only offered food to Qian Sangui and Yijin before, or there would have been conflict with the ungrateful Cheng Yue.

Old man Qian and Qian Dagui laughed heartily aside; at last, there was some laughter in the family.

Mandie began to lead a reclusive life, with Manxia often bringing Xiaoyu over to keep her company, chat, and embroider. Several times, Yang Youfu came looking for her in secret, only to be chased far away by Lady Wang and Sister-in-law Lu with brooms.

When she returned and saw Mandie in tears, Lady Wang hurriedly said, "Auntie Die, you mustn’t go soft-hearted. That lad is a good-for-nothing and can’t stand up for himself. If you go with him, you’ll never live a comfortable life."

After breakfast on May 30th, Yijin and Yixiu went to Daci Temple on Xiding Mountain.
