Chapter 168: Chapter 138: Accident_3

Just when she felt like she was about to suffocate, the snake was beaten by Monkey Brother and White Wolf until it loosened its tail.

How many rounds they fought, Qian Yixiu did not know, but before she nearly fainted from fright, a victor was finally decided. Monkey Brother pulled her hand and called out twice, as if comforting her not to be afraid, the enemy had been killed.

Only then did Qian Yixiu burst into tears; she had survived.

It was not until White Wolf came to her side that she managed to stand and, touching its back, she mounted it.

Upon exiting the cave, she saw daylight once more. She had been reborn after a calamity!

By this time, the setting sun dyed the distant Stone Mountain a blood-red hue, which made the bloodstains on her own body and on Monkey Brother and White Wolf even more striking and vibrant. Monkey Brother bared its crimson mouth, smiling at her with its teeth stained in blood, and then licked the blood off its fur with its tongue.

So much blood; how big that snake must have been. Qian Yixiu hugged White Wolf’s neck and cried again.

It was too terrifying, she was scared! At that moment, how she longed for the warmth of her little mother’s embrace, to hear those cheesy but sincere confessions.

When she lifted her head to look behind Monkey Brother again, she was scared out of her wits to see that Monkey Brother was dragging the snake out by its tail.

It was a huge serpent, black with golden patterns, as thick as a bowl, over five meters long, and with two heads.

Qian Yixiu screamed, "Why are you carrying it? Get rid of it quickly!"

Monkey Brother firmly shook its head and took a bite of the snake meat, White Wolf also turned its head and took a bite.

They really enjoyed eating it, and seeing that the snake was indeed dead, she reluctantly let Monkey Brother drag it along.

On the vast expanse of Xishi Mountain, White Wolf carried Qian Yixiu at the front, with a monkey trailing behind, carrying a several-meters-long snake in its hand.

After passing through two more rock caves, night had fallen completely. The stars twinkled brightly, helping to light Qian Yixiu’s way home.

Suddenly, a shooting star with a long tail streaked across the night sky in an arc, visible for quite some time before disappearing without a trace. This was Qian Yixiu’s first time seeing a shooting star, which fascinated her for a while and relaxed her tense mood.

Alas, change always outpaces plans! She had calculated to reach home before dark, after surveilling the path for years, noting it was free of wild animals...

Life is full of the unexpected!

Hopefully, her family still thought she was staying with the Zhang family, and her cover wasn’t blown.

Otherwise, her grandfather, grandmother, little mother, aunt, and little brother, those who cared for her, would be worried sick.

And then there was Wan Dazhong, the poor fellow she had casually used, who knew what kind of tempest he might face.

They passed through the cave that Qian Yixiu had smashed open on her way in, and she had Monkey Brother push a nearby rock to block the entrance, then scattered the debris off the cliff. This way, it seemed once again an impassable route.

The path was steep and narrow, forcing Qian Yixiu to walk instead of riding the wolf, dragging her extremely painful feet.

Once she descended this peak and climbed the mountain ahead, she would be home. But she had to walk the entire lengthy, mountainous stretch herself.

She then requested Monkey Brother to walk last when going uphill and to lead the way downhill.

Under the starlight, she had "walked" this path thousands of times. But now, she was a person with a shadow, feeling the night breeze on her skin, the iciness of the rocks underfoot. Despite the piercing pain in her feet, she was excited.

At this moment, she was not a forgotten ghost; her relatives who cared for her were perhaps suffering terribly...

These beliefs sustained her as she overcame the severe pain in her feet.

Under the stars, she went down the mountain, then up again, and down once more. Moving slowly, step by step, she kept going forward...

Standing on the familiar peak and looking down at her family’s courtyard, her face was streaming with tears.

She wiped away her tears, but in a haze, she saw many torches moving on the wasteland in front of her house. There were also torches scattered at the foot of the hills behind the village, and even some on Xijing Mountain, where she could faintly hear the loud voices of people.

Such a big search party, could they be looking for her? She felt a spasmodic pain in her lower back.

Qian Yixiu told Monkey Brother to put the snake down, they could come back to the mountain to eat it tomorrow. She then took out a purse containing a few Ordinary Pearls; there was a hidden little cave nearby, and she stashed the purse inside for safekeeping. If her family ever needed money, it would be easy to come and retrieve it.

They continued on their way, leaving Xishi Mountain behind without returning home, instead heading towards the large tomb mound. Reaching the mound, they moved east for a while before finally heading towards home. This detour was meant to mislead those searching for her.
