Chapter 167 A Dance Too Long

Chapter 167: Chapter 167 A Dance Too Long

The orchestra changed the song they were playing before to another song, this one was slower than the first one.

Our movement slowed to match the pace of the music.

"If you continue staring at me like this at this rate, you might bore a hole into my head." I looked up to meet his gaze.

"You are very beautiful, Princess." He muttered under his breath.

"Thank you for the compliment, sir..."

"Damon."

We continued dancing past the time we should have ended it. The other Fae were waiting impatiently for us to finish.

Unknowing to me, a look of displeasure marred the Fae King’s face.

"If I may ask sir Damon, why did you refer to me as Ember? Who is she?" I didn’t want to probe into his life, but I needed to know why.

Damon’s brows knitted together, as if he were contemplating whether to tell or not. But a few seconds later his lips parted. "Ember... She looks just like you. The same hair, face, eyes, and height."

"Oh really?" I frowned at his words.

Damon nodded. "She is my mate... but due to a big misunderstanding, which led to an accident. She went missing for fourteen days now... on the day of her birthday..."

Before he could finish his words, I pulled out of his arms, stopping the dance abruptly. I held both sides of my dress and curtsied to him.

A look of surprise flickered through his eyes, but he quickly masked it with a smile. Then, he bowed to me. "It is my honour that you had this dance with me."

"As so am I."

I turned and walked to the Fae King and gave a bow. "I’d like to go out for fresh air... my head is hurting."

His cold eyes swept over me for a second longer. "Come back soon to continue the dance."

I gave a quick nod before turning around and heading to the exit door.

The cool breeze brushed my hair, gently caressing my skin. I didn’t know where I was going but I decided to walk in any direction fate takes me.

’So Ember was his mate who looked just like me. That can’t just be a coincidence. As it is only the royals who have silver-white hair. How could a peasant have the same feature as me? Even my eyes are blue like an ocean... it is rare to find the same shade as mine.

And he said his mate had gone missing for fourteen days now... but I have gained consciousness from my sickness twelve days ago... this might just be a coincidence. I mean I have lived all my life in the fae realm and I haven’t stepped a foot out.

Could it be that Damon is stressed because of his missing mate... and now he could not pay close attention to details?... That must be it. Because no sane person will walk up to me to tell me that I look just like their mate.’ I inhaled deeply.

I looked up, and the sky was painted with a deep indigo, brushed with streaks of violent and soft midnight blue. The stars scattered like silver dust across it... glowing softly. A half moon hung in the middle of the sky, casting a very pale light over the drifting clouds.

It was beautiful. My deep blue sapphire gown shimmered under its grace.

Every time I look up at the sky all I can think of is freedom... I wanted to be free like the birds soaring the skies. However, I was royal... which means I can’t do the things I wish to do.

"Damon... Mate." Those two words sent an unexplainable jolt through my spine. I turned around to the sound of a carriage.

At first glance of the carriage, it screamed luxury. Its white exterior was designed with intricate gold metal. Flowery vines were used to decorate the side of the window and the lower part of the carriage.

A scowl formed on my face the moment I saw it. I immediately knew that trouble had come back to the palace, my days of peace were finally gone.

Two young ladies stepped out of the carriage, and they had silver hair like mine. One was dressed in a red gown and the other in a cream gown.

’Thistle and Lunaria.’ I rolled my eyes inwardly before walking further from them.

As I walked further, I found myself in the garden of roses. My mother, the King’s sister, loves planting. The garden was planted by her hands.

It was beautiful... However, planting was never my thing. I inhaled deeply, the sweet aroma travelled through my nostrils, calming all the tense nerves in my body.

A sudden breeze lifted the edge of my gown. I hugged myself, rubbing my palms over my arms, It was getting colder.

I turned around, deciding it was time to head back before the King would get mad for staying out too long. But just as I took a step, I heard leaves rustling from the far end of the garden.

I paused. A frown marred my face. ’What is that noise?’

Then another rustle came.

’I’ll just find out what it is.’ I followed the sound, stepping lightly over the stone path as I walked in the direction of the noise. The wind carried strange noises... one that made my skin crawl.

I reached the edge of the tall bush and gently pushed aside a few of the leaves, peeking my head through.

My eyes widened like a saucepan.

A male fae and a female fae were tangled together, both completely naked, and their bodies were covered with sweat. They were gasping, too caught up in whatever they were doing to sense me.

Until they did. They both turned at the same time, their eyes locked with mine.

"AAARRGGHH!" We all screamed in unison.

The male fae scrambled to cover himself with a cloak nearby, while the girl fell flat on her back trying to grab her dress.

I quickly backed away, almost tripping on my own skirt. "Oh my gods!" I muttered under my breath, turning to leave before the image could be permanently burned into my head.

So much for peace and fresh air.
