Chapter 150: Chapter 150 Feral

"AAAARGH!" My voice turned into a guttural growl.

My body shifted violently between my human form and my wolf form. My thoughts became blurred and I couldn’t think straight.

I was stuck in a loophole watching both my mates’ deaths. Something shattered in me... unknowingly letting my animalistic side take control.

.....

(Third POV)

Damon’s scream echoed into the trees, a brutal, guttural sound that is nothing more than that of an animal.

His body twisted violently as fur rippled across his arms, then disappeared, only to burst out again. Bones snapped and reformed, caught in a torturous loop that wouldn’t finish. One moment his back was straight and human, the next it hunched like a beast. His face contorted with pain, his jaw stretching unnaturally, and his eyes flashing black as pitch.

He wasn’t shifting, but he was breaking.

He was caught between forms, between instincts and thoughts, between the Alpha he once was and something wild with no name.

His claws tore into the dirt as his breath came in short, erratic bursts. His chest expanded like he couldn’t breathe. The light in his eyes dulled as reason slipped away, until only instinct remained.

He dashed through the forest in a blur, faster than any wolf should have been able to move. His limbs stretched with unnatural speed, launching him over roots and ducking under branches. Trees blurred past him, and leaves scattered in his wake. A low growl rolled from deep in his chest, constant like a storm building behind his teeth.

He wasn’t running toward anything. He had no sense of direction, and was only relying on his instinct.

He howled as he ran, it was loud, broken, and terrifying. It didn’t sound like a normal werewolf howl. Birds scattered from hearing his sound and the animals went silent as if they couldn’t afford to be detected by him.

The full moon hung low in the sky, illuminating his path.

When he passed through the final line of trees, the border of the Bloodshade pack came into view.

His eyes fell on Alaric, Theo, and the other werewolves, some had changed back to their human form and the others remained in their wolf forms. They had been running in his direction, searching for him... afraid something might have happened to him when he jumped down the cliff. But the moment they saw him, they froze in their spot.

The aura coming from him made their skin crawl with fear. Shivers ran down their spine at the sound of his growls.

Damon’s feet crushed the dirt as he stormed forward, his eyes locked on them, and his shoulders twitched unnaturally, with his mouth hanging open in a silent snarl.

Pain flickered through Alaric’s eyes. He didn’t understand why Damon was so stubborn. He recognized the state he was in because he had seen it before. He had watched him lose his sanity and become nothing but an animal.

But the same thing had happened again, and he already knew that it was his guilt that was eating him up.

But as Damon got closer... Alaric realized there was something wrong... this was different from when he had gone berserk a century ago.

"Step back, everyone" Alaric commanded in alarm. "Make way. Now!" He believed as long as they didn’t stand in his path or annoy him, they should be safe. Because there was no way he was going to fight with Damon in that state... He wasn’t ready to die.

The werewolves moved aside quickly, every single one except... one.

An older Alpha stepped forward, sneering. He pointed his hand at Damon and scoffed. "This is the beast we’re protecting now?" he said, not bothering to lower his voice. "Someone needs to remind him what the rules are. How dare he chase after the fae to save her after the hunt had already started?"

His words were loud and insulting.

Alaric wanted to refute him but he remained quiet. It was better to remain quiet if he wanted to live long enough to have a mate and pups.

The others shifted nervously, their eyes flicking between Damon and the Alpha, but no one spoke.

A low growl came from Damon’s throat, sending waves of fear through the air. His alpha aura was thick in the air, making most of the werewolves tuck their tail between their legs.

Another Alpha moved up beside the first. "If he breaks tradition for a fae, he disgraces all of us!"

And then a third. And more came out to sound their disapproval of his actions. They all believed he wouldn’t do anything reckless because he needed allies.

One of them yelled. "This isn’t power," the third said. "It’s madness. Someone has to make him understand.."

They didn’t finish when Damon moved in the blink of an eye. He growled loudly, and his fangs bared with saliva dripping from them.

He lunged at the first Alpha. His claws slashed straight through his neck, severing his head from his body. Blood sprayed into the air. The Alpha didn’t even have time to shift before he hit the ground, his body twitching in his own pool of blood.

The werewolves gasped in shock.

Alaric quickly mindlinked the pack members of the Bloodshade pack. "No one moves or makes any sound, or else you want to meet our ancestors."

The second Alpha changed into his wolf form, charging towards him.

Damon grabbed him by the back and slammed him into the dirt. His jaws snapped down around the man’s neck and ripped it clean open.

The third Alpha leapt into the air mid-shift... too slow for Damon.

Damon tackled him mid-air and brought him down like prey. They hit the ground with a loud thud. The Alpha didn’t get up, as his blood covered the grass. The scent filled the air, thick and sharp.

One by one he massacred all the alphas and werewolves that have spoken against him.

The remaining wolves stood frozen. The alphas, betas, and warriors. All of them stared, wide-eyed, too afraid to even run for their lives.

Damon stood slowly, his chest rising and falling with heavy breaths. Blood dripped from his claws, soaked his arms, and painted his skin red. His face was stuck between his human form and his werewolf face.

His breathing came in rasps. His shoulders twitched as if he didn’t know how to stand. Every step he took, his claws dug into the dirt like an animal.

Then, his cold soulless eyes met those of Alaric.
