Chapter 141 The Mate Pull

Chapter 141: Chapter 141 The Mate Pull

I growled aggressively, my eyes turning to the shades of grey. Furs rippled from my skin, my heart beat quickened.

Allison moaned beneath me, thinking she was the one causing my reaction.

I ignored her, sniffing the air. The scent was coming from outside the hall.

"Let me out... our mate is here." Beowulf clawed at the back of my head.

I growled again, the mate pull was maddening that I could only think of claiming her.

I pulled away from Allison. My heart yelled at me to follow the scent.

Allison’s hand circled around mine, holding me back. "Where are you going? We are only getting started... Don’t forget what this union means to us, especially to your pack. Make me yours right now."

My frame towered over as I loomed closer to her, and the next second a splitting cry filled the air. Blood splattered across the curtains.

Allison held her hand to her chest as hot tears streamed down her cheeks.

"That is a warning, if you ever lay a hand on me, I’ll make sure they are gone forever." Beowulf and I growled in unison.

A look of satisfaction etched on my face at the deep gruesome back on her hand.

"How could..." Before she could finish her words, I transformed into my wolf form, dashing out of the hall.

"Mate." I howled facing the moon.

.....

(Ember POV)

Pain tore through my body, and I trembled like a dry leaf before the wind. I dropped to my knees, gasping as heat surged under my skin.

Guttural growls rumbled from my chest. ’Oh my... did that sound just come from me? Unbelievable... Arghhh..."

My bones felt like they were snapping in different directions, breaking and rearranging, but nothing was happening. I wasn’t shifting. I could feel something inside me trying to break out, clawing, and growling, but for some reason, it was stuck.

My fingers dug into the dirt. Claws tore out from fingers. ’Fuck! My cute pinky fingers!’ I screamed in my head.

My skin rippled like something moved beneath it. My eyes burned, my vision sharpened, my ears perked up picking on sounds from meters away. My nose sniffed the air, my sense of smell heightened. Every sense of mine was stronger, but the noise and the smell made my head a fumbling mess.

The sounds were coming from different directions, and I didn’t know which one I should listen to. I could hear the dripping of water from meters away, the sounds of footsteps, laughter, and chatter... I heard the sound of music.

I covered my ears, my claws digging into my skin slightly.

I screamed again, my voice was deep and guttural. I whimpered as I could not concentrate on anything.

’This is torture!’

"Breathe," a voice growled in my head, wild and breathless. "We need to make our first transformation or else..."

Tears streamed down my cheeks. "I’m trying," I whispered. "I don’t know how, I can’t concentrate."

The pain didn’t stop. My muscles ached and burned, but the shift never came. Only patches of fur appeared and vanished. My legs trembled. My vision blurred. My whole body felt like it was being torn apart, but still... no full transformation.

The sounds of hurried footsteps approached me. "Ember!" Caroline cried as she ran towards me.

I turned around and barked at her, Lydia pulled her back.

"We shouldn’t go close to her," Lydia said with worry.

"Ember if you can hear me, try to breathe... relax." She said softly.

My gums ached, then sharp fangs slowly protruded from them. A blood-chilling growl tore from my throat.

I saw red, all I wanted to do was rip someone apart. I felt my legs breaking. I howled in agony.

"Should we chain her?" Caroline whispered to Lydia.

I turned to her, baring my teeth at her. My body twisted in an awkward position. ’If I don’t die from this... then nothing can kill me!!!’

"Breathe, Ember." The voice howled in my head.

"Oh shut up... I’m fucking trying! I’m fucking being broken and ripped apart!"

My body was covered in sweat. Then, a howl tore through the air, making my body freeze, unmoving like a statue.

My heart pounded in my chest. Thump. Thump. Thump.

A scent invaded my mind. Pine, damp earth, and something sweet and dark... chocolate.

My breath caught. My chest rose and fell faster. The scent wrapped around me, pushing back the pain like a soothing hand against fire.

It was the only thing I could focus on, it was the relief I had been looking for. It felt like something I had lost but didn’t realize it until now.

My wolf whimpered in my head.

"Mate."

My heart stuttered.

My feet moved on their own. I stumbled at first, then with all the strength I could muster, I ran into the woods.

The wind slapped against my face, whipping my hair back as I dashed through the trees. My body still hurt, but the pain was nothing compared to the pull I was experiencing.

That familiar scent of pine, damp earth, and chocolate, was all I could think about. My instincts told me I needed to get closer to it. I didn’t even know where I was going, but my heart knew.

Branches scratched at my arms, the cold air stung my skin, but I didn’t stop. My breath came out in harsh pants.

Every part of me was burning with something I couldn’t explain. It wasn’t just the scent... it was the feeling that someone out there was mine. And this was my greatest fear... getting a mate while escaping.

I growled and snarled as I ran through the woods, my claws cutting and scratching the bark of the trees.

"Ember!" Caroline shouted behind me.

"Wait!" Lydia called, their footsteps pounding the ground as they tried to catch up.

I ignored their call. I needed to follow this heavenly scent, it was like a redemption to my life.

Hope, fear, and anticipation rushed up my spine. What if I was wrong? What if this wasn’t what I thought it was? But my wolf didn’t care. She cried out for him.

My heart slammed against my ribs. Every step brought me closer. The scent grew stronger, wrapping around me like a promise.

I didn’t know who he was yet. But I knew I was about to find out.
