"What kind of nightmare did you have, Ren?"
Yona tilted her head as she crouched right in front of me.
... I get it now. I'm still in a dream, right? Otherwise, why would Yona be in my room? Especially this early in the morning, even before I woke up.
Seeing me remain silent, Yona raised an eyebrow and waved her right hand in front of my face.
"Hey, are you still sleepy? Why aren't you answering?"
"I am still sleepy, Yona. So I'm going back to sleep. Excuse me."
I was ready to lie down again to escape this strange dream. But just before I could do so, Yona pinched my cheek.
"Nope, not allowed~ Your dad told me to wake you up."
"Why would Dad ask you to wake me up?"
"He saw me waiting outside after dawn. He said I might as well come inside and wake you up."
I could tolerate Dad's decision to have Yona wake me up.
But why was Yona waiting for me since dawn? Wasn't she cold outside?
After I sat up again, Yona let go of the pinch and crossed her arms.
"Anyway, Ren, why didn’t you go to work yesterday? Since Track Club was canceled because of the rain, I thought I could see you wearing that maid uniform all day..."
"Well, something came up, so..."
Scratching my head, I averted my gaze. Putting aside the fact that I got drenched with Yuri yesterday, I also couldn’t exactly say I was dealing with a period, right?
Yona frowned, looking suspicious. She then leaned closer to my body again like yesterday, and sniffed.
Then, her eyes widened.
"Smells like bloo—"
I quickly covered her mouth before she could finish her sentence.
"Enough! That's enough! Men have their secrets, okay? Please stop."
Even though she still looked a bit unconvinced, Yona nodded.
"Alright."
Thanks for being understanding.
Bananas are a symbol of manliness, and I can’t exactly say mine is injured.
Thank you, again.
"... For now, let’s head downstairs. Dad might get the wrong idea if we stay in my room too long."
Yawning, I scratched my hair that had been getting itchier lately. Maybe it was time for a haircut...
"Okay. But, there's something I want to ask first about this thing of yours..."
"Hm?"
Hearing Yona, I reflexively looked at her again. Then, what I saw next nearly made my heart stop.
Because right after she spoke, Yona casually pulled out the magazine I had hidden under the bed.
She held it up.
"Y-Yona?"
"Why do you have this, Ren? Didn't you just look at it at the bookstore yesterday before heading home with me?"
Yona tilted her head with a confused expression as she flipped through the pages, and showed a photo of a woman with sexy abs.
"When did you buy this? Did you actually go back to the store after we got home? You should’ve just told me. No need to be shy..."
How could I not be shy!? No, wait. Forget about that!
My treasure is being looted!
---
The sound of students walking through the hallway echoed. Their chatting became a kind of faint background music in my ears.
This morning had been chaos. Yona snuck into my room and nearly stole my precious treasure in this world.
But that didn’t stop me from being in a good mood now.
Walking with a rather light step, I continued down the hallway while holding onto something, never letting go of it.
Because no matter what, this was something important I just received. And I didn’t want to lose it before I reached today’s destination.
A destination I had promised to meet someone at.
Passing a trash bin beside the stairs leading to the first-year classrooms, the curve of my lips never faded as I descended.
Then, I checked the empty space beneath the stairs.
A shy girl who was eating lunch sat comfortably down there.
Without hesitation, I called out.
"Yuri!"
"Hyaa—!"
She was enjoying her bread when she shrieked, clearly startled. Maybe because my entrance was too dramatic.
I cleared my throat and showed her the item I’d been carrying.
"Ms. Mizu finally approved the Game Club we’ve been dreaming of, Yuri! She even gave us a clubroom!"
Yuri was still trembling, but when she saw the key in my hand seriously, her mouth opened wide and her eyes sparkled with emotion.
"S-So Ren wasn’t lying after all..."
"The word 'lie' doesn’t even exist in my dictionary."
A quiet chuckle escaped my lips. My effort to meet Ms. Mizu early this morning hadn’t gone to waste.
It might’ve felt a bit rushed and even Ms. Mizu had asked about it herself, but if it meant I could impress Yuri, then any price was worth it.
"Do you want to finish your bread first, or go check out the room right away?"
Not with words, but with action. Yuri answered my question by immediately stuffing the rest of the bread into her mouth.
Unfortunately, since her mouth was too small to hold it all, her cheeks puffed up.
"Le-Lst ghoo!"
"Hamster?"
Either way, I knew we both couldn’t hold back our excitement any longer to see the clubroom. So without hesitation, I took her with me.
As we walked, Yuri slowly tried to chew the bread while drinking milk to help it go down.
"Are you okay?"
"... Um. B-But I didn’t expect the Game Club to actually be approved. I mean, um... it’s just the two of us."
"Heh, didn’t I say it in my message earlier? After convincing Ms. Mizu again, she finally saw our potential and had no choice but to approve it."
"Really...? Then, wh-why didn’t Ren try convincing her from the beginning when we were together?"
"I’m better at playing solo."
I could feel Yuri’s skeptical gaze growing stronger. But since she didn’t say anything else, I decided to let it slide.
Since the clubroom that Ms. Mizu assigned was on the first floor and close to where we were, the walk didn’t take long before we arrived.
I looked at Yuri again.
"Are you getting excited?"
"U-Um."
Getting her answer, I nodded and inserted the key into the door, then turned it.
... But strangely, there was no sound of the lock opening, nor any resistance when I turned the knob. It felt like... the door had been open from the start.
But even before I could ask, Ms. Mizu’s voice called out from inside.
"Oh, the door’s not locked. Come in, Ren, Yuri."
