Chapter 116: Chapter 73 Entering the Door_3
She didn’t want to admit it, but she had to—Shu Wan’s talent was very strong.
Lin Man felt a surge of intense crisis within her; Shu Wan was already stunning, and now her acting was equally impressive. As the leading lady, she feared she would be entirely overshadowed by Shu Wan’s brilliance.
Perhaps because she had just witnessed Shu Wan’s powerful acting, the impact was too overwhelming.
When it was Lin Man’s turn to perform opposite Shu Wan, she suddenly lost her footing.
After five consecutive failed attempts to perform the scene, Director Zhang frowned at Lin Man, "Lin Man, what’s the matter with you? Don’t let Shu Wan affect you; you must stand firm in your character."
In the drama’s setting, Lin Man’s character Xiao Yu was innocent and cheerful, a sunshiny presence who was happy and upbeat no matter whom she encountered.
Even when ascending to the Golden Throne Hall, she was as carefree and unrestrained as wildflowers growing wild on a southern mountain, full of life and energy.
But now, standing in front of Shu Wan, Lin Man seemed to be utterly suppressed by Shu Wan’s presence.
Her innocence was not natural enough, and her cheerfulness appeared to be constrained.
Being criticized by the director in front of everyone, Lin Man felt she was losing face; she pursed her lips, "Sorry, Director, I’m feeling a bit unwell. I’ll take a break and then try again."
"Alright, fine," the director said with some disappointment and waved his hand, "Take a half-hour break, then. Qin Yu, you guys start filming first."
Shu Wan and Lin Man left the set; Lin Man’s agent came to talk with her, not knowing what was said, but Lin Man flew into a temper and then locked herself in the dressing room.
Shu Wan drank a bottle of water and rested for a while before getting up and knocking on Lin Man’s dressing room door.
"I’ve said not to bother me; get lost," Lin Man was furious and didn’t want to see anyone,
"Open the door," Shu Wan said.
Hearing Shu Wan’s voice, the room inside went quiet for a moment, and then Lin Man’s impatient voice rose again, "What are you here for? To laugh at me? I know you’re good at acting, okay? Happy now, Your Majesty?"
Shu Wan could tell from the tone that Lin Man definitely wasn’t going to open the door today.
Shu Wan thought for a moment, gave up knocking, went over to the window, and jumped inside.
Lin Man was sitting in the chair with her arms crossed, stewing in her anger, when suddenly a shadow flickered before her, and the next second, Shu Wan appeared in front of her.
Lin Man screamed involuntarily, "Ahh! What do you want?"
"What else?" Shu Wan said somewhat incredulously, sitting down in a nearby chair, "To practice the scene with you; otherwise, won’t you still perform poorly later?"
"It’d serve you right if I performed poorly, wouldn’t it?" Shu Wan was touching a sore spot, and Lin Man grew even more unhappy, "I’ve applauded your acting skills, isn’t that enough? Or do you need to show off more?"
"Are you feeling inferior?" Shu Wan bluntly pricked at Lin Man.
Lin Man was stunned, then her face changed dramatically, "Shu Wan, are you crazy? Who’s as narcissistic as you? I’m a top-tier celebrity, and you—a barely known actor—how dare you make me feel inferior?"
"Hmm," Shu Wan nodded, "Then keep up that confidence."
Lin Man frowned, "What are you really here for?"
Shu Wan took out her phone and flipped to a fan-drawn piece featuring Xiao Yu and Su Wan.
In the picture, Xiao Yu was innocent and lively, while Su Wan was noble and cold.
The two stood facing each other as if from two different worlds due to their utterly distinct styles.
"Xiao Yu is supposed to be innocent and lively," Shu Wan looked into Lin Man’s eyes, "She should have her own world that nobody else can affect."
Lin Man’s eyes flickered as she subconsciously glanced at the image on the screen again, "But your character’s status is higher than Xiao Yu’s."
As Lin Man spoke, Shu Wan suddenly extended her hand towards her, leaving Lin Man startled, "What?"
Shu Wan pointed towards the makeup brushes and comb in front of Lin Man, "If you believe me, let me help adjust your makeup."
"I don’t believe you one bit," Lin Man huffed, but she obediently took the comb and makeup brush, "If you make me look like a monster, you’ll be sorry."
While Shu Wan rarely did her own makeup, that didn’t mean she lacked observation skills.
She had noticed that modern makeup techniques shared a similarity with the art of painting.
The most basic makeup was akin to "painting skin," while the most advanced was "Bone Transformation."
Conveniently, as someone skilled in both medical arts and painting, Shu Wan found analyzing bone and facial structures almost second nature.
She brushed the makeup brush across Lin Man’s face and then managed to snip away at her hair with scissors for quite a while.
