Chapter 47: Are you threatening me?

"Have enough fun with her, and now you’re here to—"

"Don’t." Damian’s voice was cold, cutting through her words like a blade. His silver eyes burned as he towered over Selene, his hands clenched tightly at his sides.

"You tampered with the wine," Damian growled. "You drugged us."

Selene blinked, feigning confusion. "I don’t know what you’re talking about," she replied smoothly, her tone sweet, but her hands betrayed her as they fidgeted in her lap.

Damian’s jaw tightened, and he took a step closer. "Don’t play coy with me, Selene. The wine you sent to my chambers—it was laced with an aphrodisiac."

Selene scoffed, standing up to meet his piercing gaze. "That’s ridiculous," she said, though her voice wavered slightly. "Why would I ever do something like that?"

Damian’s expression darkened. "Don’t test my patience," he hissed sharply. "Jasper told me everything. You’re the one who prepared the tray. You’re the one who sent it."

Selene’s mask of innocence cracked for a moment, and she took a step back. "I only wanted to help," she said quickly. "You left breakfast early, and I thought you might need—"

"Don’t," Damian snapped, cutting her off mid-sentence. "Don’t lie to me, Selene. I know exactly what you were trying to do."

Selene’s lips trembled, and then she straightened her posture, her tone shifting to one of indignation. "Fine," she admitted. "Yes, I added the aphrodisiac. But it wasn’t meant to harm you. It was meant to... to help us connect."

Damian let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "Help us connect?" he repeated incredulously. "That’s what you call manipulation now?"

Selene’s cheeks flushed with anger. "I’m trying to secure our future!" she shot back. "Do you think I’m blind to what’s happening? That witch, Evelina, is trying to take what’s mine!"

"What’s yours?" Damian’s voice rose, his wolf growling just beneath the surface. "I was never yours, Selene. You’re desperate for something that doesn’t belong to you!"

Selene’s hands balled into fists, her eyes flashing with a mix of rage and desperation. "I deserve this!" she cried. "I’ve worked for this—fought for this! You’re supposed to be with me, Damian, not some... outsider!"

Damian took another step toward her. "What you deserve is to face the consequences of your actions," he said coldly. "You think your schemes will win you the throne? They won’t. They’ll only earn you my contempt."

Selene’s breath hitched, and for a moment, she looked as if she might break.

But she wasn’t done.

She took in a deep breath as she attempted to regain control of the conversation. "I was only trying to keep you from making a terrible mistake," she said, her voice shaking with anger and feigned innocence. "You’ve been distracted, Damian, blinded by that woman. I was helping you see the truth!"

Damian’s glare deepened, his jaw tightening as he stepped closer. "Is that what you tell yourself? That tricking me into sleeping with you was your way of ’helping’ me?" He let out a bitter laugh. "Well, Selene, your plan didn’t just fail—it backfired spectacularly."

Selene’s eyes widened, and for a split second, panic flashed across her face.

But then she adjusted, softening her features and tilting her head slightly as she adopted her most pitiable expression. "Damian," she murmured, "you’re angry. I understand that. But don’t let this... misunderstanding ruin everything we’ve worked so hard for. I can forget this little... accident, and we can move on."

Damian crossed his arms, unmoved. "Misunderstanding?" he repeated in disbelief. "You drugged me, Selene. You violated my trust. And now you want to play the sweet, innocent card? Spare me."

Selene’s pout deepened, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "You don’t mean that," she said softly. "You and I—Damian, we’ve always been meant for each other. If you’d just stop and think, you’d realize that, too."

Damian felt his wolf growl within him, reflecting his growing frustration. "What I see," he said in a low and sharp voice, "is that you will do anything to get waht you want, regardless of who gets hurt along the way."

Selene’s face hardened, and the sweetness in her voice vanished. "You don’t understand the position you’re in," she said coldly. "If my father and your father hear about this, do you know what they’ll do? They’ll sever every alliance. You’ll lose me completely, Damian. Everything we’ve built—gone."

Damian’s laugh was cold and humorless. "Are you threatening me, Selene?" he asked, his silver eyes glinting dangerously.

"I’m warning you," she replied, lifting her chin defiantly. "This can still be salvaged. If you let me, I’ll forget this little outburst and help you put things back together."

Damian shook his head, his lips curling into a smirk that didn’t reach his eyes. "You think I’m afraid of losing you?" He took a step forward, his voice rising slightly. "You think I wanted to marry a spoiled, desperate, manipulative woman like you?"

Selene’s confidence faltered, but she quickly masked it with indignation. "Damian, don’t be rash. You need me—my family’s wealth, my connections—"

"No," Damian responded sharply. "What I need is for you to stay out of my life. Stay out of Evelina’s life."

The mention of Evelina’s name sent Selene over the edge. "She’ll ruin you!" she screamed. "She’ll ruin everything we’ve built!"

Damian’s lips curled into a snarl. "The only thing ruining anything here is you."

"You think this little rebellion of yours will make you happy? You’re a prince, Damian. And my father is rich."

Damian abruptly interrupted, "To hell with your father’s money. And to hell with this engagement." His next words were cold and final: "It’s over, Selene."

For a moment, the room was silent.

Selene stared at him with wide and disbelieving eyes. Then, her expression twisted into one of fury. "You can’t just call off the engagement," she hissed. "Do you know what this will do to your position? To your family’s alliances?"

Damian’s smirk returned. "Watch me."

Selene’s nails dug into her palms as she trembled with rage. "You’ll regret this," she spat. "I’ll make sure of it."
