Transmigrated as the Crown Prince's Mate
Chapter 143: Possessive...

Chapter 143: Possessive...

Damian took a slow step toward Eve. "Would you have preferred if I let him claim you?"

Evelina scoffed. "You think I’d let anyone claim me?"

His gaze softened just a fraction. "No," he admitted. "I don’t."

Evelina inhaled deeply, trying to cool the fire in her chest. "I don’t know what OakenShaw wants, but I guess this isn’t just about me. A royal alliance between werewolf kingdoms isn’t something that’s decided on a whim."

Damian’s jaw tensed. "That doesn’t mean I’ll allow it."

Evelina took a small breath, surprised by the intensity of his voice.

He meant it.

Every word.

Before she could reply, a sharp knock interrupted them. "Your Highness."

Jasper.

Damian exhaled slowly before moving toward the door. He pulled it open just enough to see Jasper standing there with an unreadable expression.

"The King wants to see you," Jasper said. "Alone."

Evelina stiffened.

Damian’s expression didn’t change, but Evelina saw the way his fingers twitched—like he already knew this wasn’t going to be a pleasant conversation.

Still, he nodded but didn’t leave immediately.

Instead, he stayed by the door, his fingers still on the handle and his shoulders tense. His silver eyes flickered, revealing the storm inside him that was brewing—both his and Storm’s.

Evelina had never seen him like this before.

Jasper, standing outside, shifted slightly. He was clearly aware he was intruding on a moment, but he said nothing.

Damian exhaled slowly and, without another word, turned back to Evelina.

Her breath caught as he closed the distance between them in a single breath.

The air grew thick with something neither of them had the time nor the luxury to acknowledge.

And then—

He kissed her.

It wasn’t soft.

It wasn’t hesitant.

It was firm. Possessive, like a claim.

His fingers threaded through her hair as he tilted her head up, deepening the kiss just enough to leave no room for misunderstanding.

Evelina’s body tensed for half a second before melting against him, heat curling in her stomach, her heart pounding wildly.

His lips moved desperately, like he was trying to memorise her, like he was trying to mark her in a way that no one could challenge.

And when he finally pulled away, their foreheads remained pressed together as they breathe the same air.

His voice was rough when he spoke. "I’ll be back."

Evelina swallowed, her fingers clutching onto the fabric of his shirt without realizing it.

For once, she didn’t have a witty comeback.

She just nodded.

Damian’s eyes softened, just for a fraction of a second. Then, with one final lingering touch—his thumb brushing against her cheek—he stepped back.

And left.

Evelina exhaled sharply as it closed behind him.

As if waiting for him to leave, Relia gave an exaggerated whistle. "Damn. That was hot."

Evelina, still catching her breath, rolled her eyes.

"Oh, don’t roll your eyes at me like that, Evie. I wasn’t the one making out like the world was ending."

Evelina groaned, running a hand over her face. "I hate you."

Relia grinned. "No, you don’t."

There was a moment of silence between them.

"Will everything be okay, Relia?"

"Honestly, don’t know, Evie," Relia hummed. "But something tells me that conversation is going to be bad."

Evelina didn’t disagree.

She stared at the door for a long moment after Damian left.

Her body was still tense, the remnants of heated emotions burning beneath her skin. The air between them had been thick—charged with something too sharp, too possessive, too much.

And now?

Now, she was left alone with her thoughts.

Relia exhaled. "I hate to say it, but I don’t think we’re the only ones pissed off right now."

Evelina ran a hand down her face. "That makes two of us."

She turned, moving toward the vanity, needing something to do. As she sat down, she caught her own reflection in the mirror.

Her expression was unreadable.

The day had spiraled into chaos faster than she had anticipated. The stress at the wine deposit, the hidden tunnel system, Kyle’s sudden arrival, his claim, Damian’s reaction—none of it had been expected.

And yet, here she was.

Caught in the middle of a power struggle she had no control over.

She inhaled deeply, forcing her thoughts into order. If she let herself get overwhelmed, she would lose before the game had even started.

Evelina refused to be a pawn.

A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.

She turned. "Come in."

Jasper stepped inside, closing the door behind him with a casual flick of his wrist. His usual smirk was in place, but his sharp eyes were filled with curiosity.

"Well," he drawled, flopping onto the chair across from her. "That was dramatic."

Evelina sighed. "I don’t want to talk about it."

"Okay, milady."

Jasper was quiet for just a second before speaking. "Come on, you have to admit—watching the prince nearly shift in the middle of the throne room was entertaining."

Evelina groaned, rubbing her temples. "Gods, I hate my life."

Jasper leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. "So, what’s the plan?"

Evelina raised a brow. "Plan?"

Jasper gestured vaguely. "The two extremely powerful alpha princes who apparently both want you. One of them being your actual mate, the other being... well... I don’t know much about him."

Evelina exhaled sharply. "That’s not funny."

Jasper chuckled. "I think it’s hilarious."

She scowled. "Then why don’t you switch places with me?"

Jasper smirked. "Oh, milady, I would—if only to watch the fireworks up close."

Evelina gave him a flat look. "I hate you."

"You wound me." He placed a hand over his heart. "Truly."

Despite herself, Evelina let out a small huff of amusement. But it faded quickly as her mind wandered back to the problem at hand.

Kyle.

What was he really doing here?

And more importantly—what did he want?

Evelina wasn’t naïve enough to believe this was just about an alliance. Kyle had planned this. The way he smirked at her, the way he had looked completely unsurprised by Damian’s reaction—he had been waiting for this moment.

She just didn’t know why.

Yet.
