Chapter 113: Confidence Look Good...

"Well, well, well..." Selene’s voice was smooth, laced with amusement and a hint of cruelty. She tilted her head, her sharp gaze assessing Evelina’s nearly nude body with a scrutiny that made Evelina uneasy. "If it isn’t the prostitute herself."

Evelina tightened her grip on the towel, her nails digging into its soft fabric. Selene sat confidently, as if she owned the room, her lips twisting into a condescending smirk.

Evelina hated that smirk.

"Excuse me?" Evelina said, her voice deceptively calm.

Selene leaned back in her chair, crossing one leg over the other. "Oh, you heard me," she purred. "Or should I say his whore?"

Relia snarled inside Eve, letting out a growl. "Rip her throat out."

Evelina, however, smiled. A slow, deadly kind of smile. The kind that sent warnings through the air before a storm hit.

"That’s cute," she said smoothly. "Did you practice that little insult in the mirror before slithering in here?"

Selene’s smirk faltered, just for a second, before she leaned forward, placing her elbows on her knees. "Oh, Evelina, you think you’re so clever, don’t you? But I have news for you." Her eyes darkened. "Last night? It meant nothing."

Evelina arched a brow. "Is that so?"

Selene’s lips curled as her expression shifted into something cruel. "You actually believe that a few hours in his bed changes anything? That a mate mark makes you worthy of standing beside him?" She scoffed. "You’re a disgrace. A traitor. And soon, when Damian realises his mistake, he’ll—"

Evelina laughed heartily.

Not a polite, amused laugh.

A full-bodied, unbothered, deep-from-her-core kind of laugh.

Selene’s expression flickered with uncertainty.

Evelina took a step forward, showing a natural confidence despite wearing nothing but a towel.

"You’re so predictable, Selene," she mused, tilting her head. "The wounded pride, the desperate need to convince yourself that he still belongs to you." She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. "But here’s the thing... you already lost."

Selene’s nostrils flared, but Evelina wasn’t finished.

"He chose me. Not because of some bond, not because of fate—because he wanted to." She took another step closer, towering over Selene. "And you hate that, don’t you?"

Selene’s hands curled into fists on her lap, but she forced a smile. "You’re mistaken if you think this is over," she hissed.

Evelina’s expression didn’t change. "And you’re mistaken if you think I’m scared of you."

For the first time, Selene felt a flicker of doubt.

And Evelina saw it.

Felt it.

Good.

Selene quickly masked her emotions and returned to a neutral expression. "The King won’t stand for this. The Council won’t stand for this."

Evelina shrugged. "Let them come. I’ll handle them the same way I’m handling you."

Selene scoffed, rising gracefully to her feet. "You’re delusional if you think you can just behave the way you want and take what isn’t yours."

Evelina’s smile sharpened.

"Funny," she said coolly. "That’s exactly what you’ve been trying to do."

Selene’s eyes blazed with fury.

For a moment, Evelina thought she might actually attack.

"Let her try."

But instead, Selene exhaled sharply, straightening her posture. "Enjoy this while you can," she said in a low voice. "Because I promise you—it won’t last."

Evelina moved even closer, so close that their faces were just inches apart.

"You want a war, Selene?" she whispered.

Selene’s breath hitched.

Evelina’s voice turned cold and lethal. "Then come prepared."

Selene hesitated just a second too long.

And then—without another word—she turned on her heel and stormed out of the room.

The second the door slammed shut behind her, Relia practically screamed in Evelina’s head.

"OH, MY GODS, THAT WAS THE HOTTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!"

Evelina exhaled, rolling her shoulders. "She’s an idiot."

"No, no, no, I need you to just bask in that moment. The way you owned her? The way she flinched? I think I just fell in love with you myself!"

Evelina huffed a laugh. "Shut up, Relia."

"No, you shut up. That was perfection. Damian should’ve been here to see that. He’d be throwing you on the bed all over again."

Evelina shook her head, finally moving toward the clothes left on the bed. "Well, let’s hope he’s doesn’t do that this morning. So much to do, and I have a feeling Selene’s not the only one I’ll need to deal with today."

Relia hummed. "You scared, Evie?"

Evelina paused. Then, she smirked.

"Not even a little."

Evelina dressed quickly, slipping into the fresh set of clothes that had been left for her.

The soft fabric hugged her body comfortably, but as she adjusted the collar, she couldn’t help but glance toward the door, her mind still lingering on her encounter with Selene.

She’d won this round. That much was clear.

But the war?

It was far from over.

With a deep breath, she squared her shoulders and left the room, heading back to her chambers.

It didn’t take long for her to notice the stares.

Guards, maids, and even a few noble courtiers she passed in the halls—every single one of them looked at her. Some with barely concealed curiosity, others with outright shock, and a few with something that suspiciously resembled amusement.

Evelina frowned. "What the hell...?"

Relia snickered. "Oh, darling. Do you really need me to spell it out for you?"

Evelina kept walking, ignoring the way one of the maids turned bright red before whispering furiously to another as she passed.

"Okay, this is weird."

"Weird?" Relia cackled. "More like hilarious. Face it, Evie. You and Damian weren’t exactly... subtle last night."

Evelina’s eyes widened slightly. "No. No way. They didn’t—"

"Ohhh, they did. And by the looks on their faces, I’d say you two put on quite the performance. My gods, I wish I could’ve seen their reactions in real-time."

Evelina fought the urge to bury her face in her hands. "Kill me. Right now."

"Absolutely not," Relia said cheerfully. "This is too good."

Evelina quickened her pace, forcing herself to ignore the lingering whispers as she reached her room. The moment she shut the door behind her, she let out a deep exhale.

Then—
