Chapter 55: Ch 55: The Unexpected Arrival

The summoning circle pulsated with an ominous black glow, its energy thickening with every passing second.

Tendrils of dark magic licked at the air, and the circle began to grow in size, expanding far beyond its initial boundaries.

Slowly, it lifted from the ground, hovering upward until it hung vertically in the air like a gate to another world.

A sudden wave of power burst forth, and the entire battlefield froze.

The aura that leaked from the portal was unlike anything anyone had ever felt.

It was overwhelming... not wild or chaotic, but calm and controlled, yet suffocating in its sheer intensity.

It was the kind of power that pressed down on the soul, crushing any thoughts of resistance.

Even the dark magician, whose lips had been curled into a triumphant grin, found himself momentarily paralyzed.

His laughter faltered as his knees buckled slightly.

But then, a slow, maniacal smile returned to his face.

"It’s here..." he whispered to himself, his voice trembling with excitement.

His eyes gleamed as he looked at the swirling black gate before him.

"I did it. I finally did it!"

The air around the portal thickened as death mana began to seep outward in waves.

It wasn’t just a trickle... it was an unrelenting flood.

The sinister energy poured out like a living entity, creeping and spreading to every corner of the city.

It reached the furthest edges of the imperial capital, wrapping itself around the barrier that isolated the city from the outside world.

The magician staggered back slightly, his body trembling under the weight of the very power he had summoned.

He had to descend from the air to maintain his balance.

His breathing was uneven, but his twisted smile remained intact.

"Magnificent... so much death mana..." he muttered. His hands trembled as he felt the energy saturating the very air around him.

"With this... even the gods won’t be able to stop me."

Jamie Lionheart stood motionless in the distance.

His golden eyes were dull, his spirit shattered.

The overwhelming power of the aura pressing down on him wasn’t just physical... it was mental, emotional.

His sword slipped from his fingers, falling to the ground with a hollow clink.

His lips trembled as he whispered to himself...

"It’s... it’s over."

He knew there was no fighting against a creature born of this kind of power.

He, the last of the Lionhearts, had failed. His kingdom, his people... everything was lost.

But then, something strange happened.

The summoning circle, still glowing with its otherworldly energy, began to rise again, levitating higher and higher until it floated directly above the dark magician’s head.

It moved so slowly, so silently, that no one noticed at first... not even the magician himself.

It wasn’t until a strange thud echoed across the battlefield that the magician finally looked up.

His eyes widened in confusion.

"What the—"

Before he could finish, something... or rather, someone... landed on his head with a dull impact.

The force was enough to send the magician sprawling face-first into the dirt.

He collapsed in a twisted, awkward heap, his arms and legs splayed out in all directions.

Jamie blinked in disbelief, the sound breaking him out of his daze.

He looked up toward the floating portal, expecting to see some monstrous creature emerging to herald the end of the world.

Instead, what he saw left him utterly speechless.

Standing atop the magician’s unconscious body was a young boy.

The figure couldn’t have been older than fifteen or sixteen.

He had messy black hair, streaked with dirt and ash, and dark black eyes that glimmered with an unusual calm.

His clothes were tattered, little more than rags barely clinging to his well-defined physique, but he didn’t seem the least bit bothered by his disheveled appearance.

What stood out the most, however, was his expression... or lack thereof.

The boy’s face was utterly blank, as though he had no interest in the chaos around him.

He stood with one foot planted firmly on the back of the magician’s head, pinning him to the ground like a bug beneath a boot.

His other hand lazily picked at his ear, his posture radiating pure boredom.

Jamie stared, his mouth agape. A single word escaped his lips...

"Eh?"

The boy turned his head slightly, noticing Jamie for the first time.

Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, there was silence.

Then, the boy raised his free hand in a casual wave.

"Wassup, gang" he said flatly, his tone as disinterested as his expression.

Moments earlier...

Ye Tian approached the edge of the imperial city.

The massive barrier that encased the capital shimmered faintly in the distance, a translucent dome that stretched high into the sky.

In front of it stood one of the barrier mages, clad in the traditional black robes of their order.

Ye Tian came to a stop some distance away, his eyes narrowing as he observed the mage.

He tapped his chin thoughtfully, pondering how to deal with this obstacle.

"Hmmm... one shot should do it..." he muttered to himself.

But there was a problem.

Ye Tian was brimming with mana... an absurd, almost infinite amount thanks to the Heart of the Death Dragon embedded within him.

However, his body was incapable of fully utilizing it.

The most his fragile frame could handle was 5,000 mana points at a time, and even then, the regeneration rate was so rapid it might as well have been endless.

Despite this, his body lacked the necessary qi vessels to properly convert mana into qi for attacks.

Attempting to force it would either destroy his body or break some hidden condition of the strange mission he found himself bound to.

"Can’t risk losing my rewards..." he muttered, frowning.

He stood there for a moment, scratching his head in frustration.

"How am I supposed to—"

A sudden light caught his attention.

He glanced down and saw a magic circle forming on the ground in front of him.

It shimmered faintly, its edges glowing as space itself began to twist and ripple.

"A gate?" Ye Tian murmured, tilting his head.

He could sense the immense power radiating from it, but he wasn’t concerned.

He could tell someone was trying to summon him... though for what purpose, he couldn’t guess.

He sighed, debating whether or not to step through.

"Dangerous... but also kind of interesting."

After a brief moment of thought, he made up his mind.

He extended his hand, releasing a pulse of mana toward the gate.

The circle reacted instantly, glowing brighter as it opened a path.

Without hesitation, Ye Tian leapt through.

The next thing he knew, he was standing in the middle of the imperial capital, surrounded by ruins and fire.

And, quite accidentally, he had landed directly on the head of the dark magician.
