Chapter 350: Chapter 129: Truth is More Important than Feelings_4

There are many students without a sense of time, which highlights the advantage of punctual students like Qiao Yu.

Gifted, honest, trustworthy, respectful to professors, and to time...

What bad intentions could such a child have?

He is merely interested in the Geometric Langlands Conjecture, happened to read their paper, and found some small errors in it.

Moreover, Qiao Yu promised him that if he thought of a way to resolve this flaw, he would notify him immediately.

Qiao Yu is already so sensible that if Pan Jingyuan still holds grudges against a sixteen-year-old child, he would think he is being too petty.

He believes Professor Dennis feels the same way.

It’s just that for some reason, Professor Sam and Professor Feng seem to have some resistance towards Qiao Yu.

Pan Jingyuan suspects it’s because Qiao Yu is too young, and these professors can’t put aside their pride.

Also, for this reason, the recent news from next door, from Professor Li, has made his feelings about Qiao Yu more complex.

Recently, Qiao Yu actually solved a difficult problem encountered by the research group on Old Li’s side.

He felt somewhat bitter about it.

This kid, Qiao Yu, just cuts and leaves!

Logically, he should have thought about the Geometric Langlands Conjecture for them first.

Of course, this can’t be blamed on Qiao Yu.

After all, Qiao Yu is now a member of their research group, and thinking about his project is the right thing to do.

In general, his feelings are very complicated and troubled.

But there’s nothing to be done about it.

Pan Jingyuan plans to find a time to have a good talk with Qiao Yu when he goes to France for the International Algebraic Geometry Conference, as he’s genuinely been too busy recently.

And just like that, time seemed to fly by, and there wasn’t much progress for most of April and May.

His mentor Dennis, Professor Sam, and Professor Feng were all in a similar situation.

Of course, this is also normal. For an extremely complex topic, proposing a problem and seeking to solve it while maintaining the integrity of the framework is not a simple task.

It requires re-examining all aspects, but it wasn’t entirely without gain.

After communicating with Professor Dennis via email, he proposed a previously abandoned approach at yesterday’s group meeting, which involved reconstructing a Topological Perturbation Category, or TPC, and analyzing local systems at the Conjugate Ridge Singular Point.

The core idea is to re-harmonize the geometric structure near the singular points by introducing minor topological perturbations, to meet the globalization needs of the Geometric Langlands Conjecture.

Mathematically speaking, for each singular point x on the algebraic variety X, the object of TPC is defined as a perturbed homology layer Fxϵ near x, where ϵ denotes the size of perturbation.

Theoretically, the definition of Fxϵ can smooth out the higher-order singularities of the local system to a very small scale ϵ, making the local geometric structure topologically similar to a smooth point.

This was actually a previous idea, but it was abandoned because the limit process of topological perturbation ϵ→0 might not be consistent at different singular points, especially within complex singular point networks, where the limit of HnTPC(x) might be unstable.

But there’s no alternative; this is presently the best solution for fixing the issue Qiao Yu brought up, though it’s technically troublesome.

If they can solve the problem of the Ambidexterity theorem failing in the limit process, the paper wouldn’t need major revisions and could be extended again.

At least it provides a direction for future efforts.

There’s nothing else to do; Pan Jingyuan has noticed that the emotions of the other two people in the research group have started to become unstable. This is evident from the increasing frequency of email exchanges.

It’s not that there’s less communication, but rather too much.

When someone in the research group proposes too many unreasonable ideas in a short time, it inevitably wastes a lot of everyone’s time.

Especially with Professor Feng, whom Pan Jingyuan is not fond of. Some of his recent ideas are obviously outlandish.

Fortunately, during the group meeting, he and Dennis managed to persuade the two to accept this proposal.

However, these past two days, Pan Jingyuan hasn’t had the time to focus on this topic, as he’s leaving the day after tomorrow for France to attend the International Algebraic Geometry Conference. Although he won’t be speaking at the conference, he’s one of the invited mathematicians.

Well, he did have a chance to present at a breakout session.

But without a proper solution to this issue, neither he nor Dennis is in the mood to give a presentation.

Pan Jingyuan considered going with Qiao Yu, but this time Qiao Yu is going with several mathematics professors from Yanbei University. Furthermore, Yanbei University said they are departing at dawn tomorrow, taking the direct Huaxia National Airline flight to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Although the departure time is somewhat inconvenient, it’s the shortest flight, taking less than twelve hours, allowing them to arrive at the venue three days in advance.

This is probably another decision by Tian Yanzhen.

However, it’s understandable.

If Qiao Yu were his student, Pan Jingyuan would also choose to go early, to introduce Qiao Yu to the world’s major professors in related research fields first.

Sometimes things are just so coincidental; just as Pan Jingyuan thought of Qiao Yu, the phone suddenly rang, and it was that little guy calling.

The modern interpretations of "speak of the devil" have many manifestations.

Well, is this a farewell before going to France for the meeting? Then this kid is still pretty decent...
