Chapter 369: Chapter 269: Humanity’s Nemesis_2

"I was just thinking about sparing your life, but you actually want to kill me, so I can’t let you live!"

Yakou Shichi was greatly displeased. In fact, he had just been thinking the ice-cold beauty would make a perfect taciturn maid. If Moriyama Yasurou was obedient enough, he might consider making use of her...

Two arbitrators drew their pistols and quickly loaded them. One aimed at Minamoto Tamako, while the other pointed the muzzle at Moriyama Yasurou’s head. They were just waiting for Yakou Shichi’s command to pull the trigger.

Yakou Shichi raised his hand. He initially found Moriyama Yasurou interesting, but now he was bored with her. A toy he was bored with only made him annoyed. Just as he was about to signal the arbitrators to execute her, a sudden sound came through the micro earpiece in his ear.

Yakou Shichi was stunned for a second. He quickly gestured for the arbitrators to hold off on shooting, then turned his face away and murmured softly, confirming multiple times to the other side of the earpiece. Finally, he said with a complex tone:

"Is that so... I understand."

"No, no, no, you’re too kind..."

"It’s not borrowing, what’s mine is yours..."

"Okay, see you in a bit."

He turned around, leaned over to an arbitrator, and whispered a couple of sentences. The arbitrators nodded silently, then dragged Moriyama Yasurou away, one on each side.

Minamoto Tamako hurriedly followed, loudly questioning where they were taking Sister Yalan. The arbitrators didn’t respond and called for medical personnel to carry away Watanabe Shun. Helpless, Minamoto Tamako decided to resort to force to protect Sister Yalan and Senior Watanabe.

Seeing this, Yakou Shichi signaled for her to stay calm. He assured her that he wouldn’t do anything bad to Moriyama Yasurou and Watanabe Shun for now; in fact, he would even provide Watanabe Shun with emergency treatment.

Minamoto Tamako didn’t believe this frivolous man had any good intentions. Holding a rifle, she continued to press Yakou Shichi about his true intentions, looking like Hello Kitty brandishing a submachine gun with her posture and expression.

Yakou Shichi didn’t plan to keep them in suspense. He looked around and loudly asked if there were any participants who wanted to undertake the trial. But naturally, no one responded, except for a chubby guy who raised his hand asking how to spend the 5 points he had earned.

"Participants who haven’t undergone a trial cannot use their points. Even if you manage to obtain points by some means, they won’t do you any good. If you want to leave here, you can only participate in the trials. Wasting time here is meaningless!"

At this point, Yakou Shichi shifted the topic: "But, let’s be honest, suddenly asking a group of ordinary people obsessed with material desires to surpass themselves is somewhat too demanding... Becoming the pinnacle of humanity is too nebulous, isn’t it?"

The participants looked at each other, not knowing what play he was acting, and no one spoke up.

Yakou Shichi walked back and forth, hands behind his back, under Minamoto Tamako’s rifle, raising a finger and saying with his head up: "What kind of person can be called the strongest, the best, the most perfect of the new humans?"

"Is it intelligence? A research institute doctor may be exceedingly intelligent and indeed have a high social status, yet still needs to obey politicians and be constrained by budget appropriations... It seems intelligence doesn’t put one at the top of the pyramid!"

"Is it wealth? Every nation has its richest individuals, holding resources beyond the imagination of ordinary people. But when faced with the country’s machinery of force, they seem to be sheep to be slaughtered, always ferrying assets across countries... Wealth seemingly doesn’t place one at the top of the pyramid either."

"Could it be power? But is there any power in this world that isn’t restricted? The world has not yet unified, power is always in contention, and stronger power will always emerge... So, power cannot put someone at the top of the pyramid either."

"So, what is the decisive factor in standing at the apex of humanity?"

"Let me give you a metaphor: sheep eat grass, wolves eat sheep, the biological chain’s ecological position is absolute. So, looking up the chain, what is a wolf’s natural enemy? It’s a bit hard to answer, right? Even a fierce tiger fears a pack of wolves."

"Is there an animal that, upon encounter, others would instinctively become wary of, and no matter how fierce a predator they are, they wouldn’t attack rashly, opting instead to proceed cautiously?"

"That’s right, it’s humans."

"And what is humanity’s natural enemy?"

"Of course, it’s the ’predator’ above humans."

"With that said, I suppose it’s clear to all of you? The decisive factor in standing at the top of humanity is instinct!"

"As long as you can invoke fear, unease, excitement with just a look... Making those around you feel a pressure born from instinct, you can become the ’natural enemy of mankind’ through numerous trials!"

"And among all the ’predators,’ only one has climbed to the pinnacle!"

Yakou Shichi stopped, speaking solemnly: "And that is the chief designer of Cat Island! The strongest carbon-based lifeform in history! Perfect in both body and mind!"

"Next, you will have the honor of witnessing how the ’strongest’ makes their move, which will be a once-in-a-lifetime honor for you, and it will utterly change your perspective of the world—"

Yakou Shichi was getting more and more excited. He waved his hand and shouted:

"—Yes! Someone has challenged the chief designer! And the chief designer has accepted their challenge, which in itself signifies that the chief designer deems this person qualified to challenge them!"

"Dear participants, you will witness the most spectacular showdown of this century!"

He swiftly walked out of the Seven Sins Temple. The red curtain slowly pulled open, revealing a corridor with a series of Trial Field doors on each side. The arbitrators followed behind him, heading straight for the door at the end.

Minamoto Tamako hesitated for a moment, worried about Sister Yalan and Senior Watanabe, she followed them; Fujiwara Homare stood there in a daze, only realizing they were left alone and quickly hurried after them.

The crowd filed in through the door at the end of the corridor.

The remaining participants stayed put, looking at each other, unmoved by Yakou Shichi’s words, thinking instead, ’Wow, this guy is such a chuunibyou,’ ’as expected, he sounds young,’ ’the strongest human sounds so embarrassing’...

About ten minutes later, small TVs and a giant screen lit up again.

The footage was uniformly that of a vast white square, with a huge glass chamber erected in the center. It looked like a giant aquarium tank. The chamber had portholes at the top and bottom, with retractable bands surrounding it, and arbitrators stood guard with guns.

Minamoto Tamako stood outside the retractable bands with Fujiwara Homare and others, her eyes wide as she stared straight at the glass chamber inside.

Inside was a table and two chairs, with two people sitting opposite each other.

The man sitting on the left side was Fushimi Roku.

His trench coat was nowhere to be seen, and his trousers were neat without bullet holes or bloodstains. His hair was messy, dressed in a sapphire blue shirt, sleeves clamped to his upper arm, collar unbuttoned with two buttons, looking like a Wall Street elite fresh from a workout.

Sitting across from him was the legendary chief designer.

Fujiwara Homare widened their eyes, thinking the person was a woman.

She wore a high-collared deep red dress, styled with a princess cut hairstyle, dignified in appearance, exuding a natural elegance typical of twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings, hard to pinpoint a precise age. She had both the delicate air of a wealthy heiress and the grace of a matriarch.

The most impressive were her eyes.

Eyes that slanted upwards at the corners, large and expressive, with pupils pure and clear, much like a cat’s eyes.

Minamoto Tamako couldn’t figure out the situation, she looked around and saw arbitrators carrying piles of round metal boxes inside through the portholes, unsure what this was about.

Moriyama Yasurou was freed, feeling exceedingly uneasy, she asked Yakou Shichi what was going on. He replied matter-of-factly: "Isn’t it obvious? Of course, it’s to gamble."

He paused, then smiled, adding: "Incidentally, the stakes are all your lives."
