Chapter 638: Chapter 523: The Time Has Come! Seizing Power and Usurping the Throne Tonight (Request for Monthly Tickets)
Monday. Today, something happened that Aoyama Xiu Xin was not interested in, but Kudou Tatsuo was deeply concerned about.
The bar murder case from last week was tried in court today. The murderer, Tanabe, confessed guilt without reservation, voluntarily surrendered, and claimed he did not subjectively intend to kill at the time. Ultimately, the judge sentenced him to fifteen years of imprisonment. Tanabe accepted the sentence in court and waived his right to appeal.
While not a major case, it was still a criminal case and naturally drew media attention, though only lesser reporters were sent to cover it.
After the trial concluded, as Tanabe was being escorted out, reporters outside surged forward immediately.
"Is there anything you would like to say to everyone?"
"Do you regret your impulsive actions at that time?"
"What drove you to flee after the murder, but then turn yourself in the next day..."
Faced with these questions, Tanabe, looking panicked, was shielded by the police and walked toward the car without uttering a word.
Nervously awaiting his impending prison life.
In a luxury car by the roadside, Kudou Misaki shifted her gaze away and turned to her brother, Iwamoto Shigeru, saying, "Now you should be at ease. Be more cautious in the future, at least don’t cause another death."
"I know, sister. Let’s go, it’s enough that the kid confessed," Iwamoto Shigeru urged impatiently, as he had plans with friends later.
"He didn’t kill anyone!" Suddenly, a middle-aged man yelled from the steps.
He was using a megaphone, so his voice was loud.
Just as Kudou Misaki was about to turn the key in the ignition, she froze.
Everyone in front of the courthouse froze as the middle-aged man continued, "I have evidence that the murderer is the brother of the Police General Affairs Department Minister Kudou Misaki, Iwamoto Shigeru. Tanabe was just a scapegoat!"
With that, he took out a voice recorder, aimed it at the megaphone, and pressed the play button. A clear recording then filled the ears of everyone present.
"That... sister, I accidentally killed someone again. I bet someone has called the police. You have to help me, I don’t want to go to jail, alive or dead!"
Before the recording could finish, the scene had exploded, especially the junior reporters who came to trace the case, were overwhelmingly excited.
They hadn’t anticipated such a huge scoop.
A promotion and a raise were in store today!
"Damn it!" Inside the car, Iwamoto Shigeru, watching the scene, was both shocked and angry, his eyes red as he reached for the door, wanting to rush out and stop the middle-aged man.
"What are you doing!" Kudou Misaki quickly grabbed him and scolded, "Going there now won’t stop him, let’s leave immediately."
Although she was also shocked and angry, she was still rational enough to know that she couldn’t let the reporters spot her nearby and immediately drove away from the scene.
While driving with one hand, she shakily called Fujimoto Takayoshi, "Minister..."
Meanwhile, chaos had erupted at the courthouse entrance.
"Tanabe, were you really just a scapegoat?"
"Taking the blame for someone else is still illegal! Think carefully before you answer! Don’t continue making mistakes!"
Tanabe never anticipated such an unexpected development. Faced with the aggressive questioning from a group of reporters, he was at a loss and soon completely broke down.
"Ah! I didn’t do it! I didn’t kill anyone! They forced me to take the blame, I had no choice, really no choice, sob sob sob..."
What was even more shocking occurred after the recording finished playing. Under the watchful eyes of the public, the middle-aged man pulled out a bottle of pills, poured them into his mouth, and shouted, "Today, I will expose Kudou Misaki’s true colors with my death!"
Clearly, it was poison. Soon after swallowing it, he fell to the ground convulsing and quickly stopped breathing.
Initially baffled, reporters then surged forward, scrambling for the voice recorder beside the body.
"Bitch, now I’ll see how you die."
Inside the car by the roadside, Kudou Tatsuo muttered sinisterly and then stepped on the gas and drove away.
The middle-aged man had a terminal illness; he was given a sum of money in exchange for his life, to make his disclosure before committing suicide on the spot, increasing the exposure of the event while also serving as a way to silence him.
This would divert any suspicion from him.
Half an hour later, at the police headquarters.
Inside the Minister’s office.
Kudou Misaki stood anxiously on the side.
"Yes, okay, okay," Fujimoto Takayoshi said with a grim expression while on the phone, hanging up before turning to Kudou Misaki and saying, "The whistleblower committed suicide on the spot."
"What?" Kudou Misaki gasped, then spoke rapidly, "Minister, this is clearly a deliberate attack on me, the person behind the scenes..."
"The person behind the scenes doesn’t matter anymore," Fujimoto Takayoshi interrupted her darkly and continued coldly, "What matters is that you, as a police officer, covered up for your brother’s murder, created false and wrongful cases, and have been exposed! And it’s not just that person who made the disclosure in public at the courthouse, all media in Hokkaido have received an anonymous mailed recording. This will be known nationwide tomorrow, I’m powerless to stop it."
He was furious with Kudou Misaki for risking his own position to help her inept brother.
"No... how can this be! How can this be..." Kudou Misaki felt as if struck by lightning, nearly collapsing on the spot. After steadying herself, she rushed over and grabbed Fujimoto Takayoshi’s arm, pleading pitifully, "Minister, please help me, you can’t just let me face this alone, I know you have vast capabilities, please help me, Minister!"
How much hardship had she endured... No, how many sacrifices had she made to climb to her current position? To live this dazzling life? She didn’t want to lose it!
