Chapter 605: 244 Scenic Beauty (Part 1)

The day after the mourning period ended at Lian Mansion, Lady Mo moved to the Upper Chamber. As she looked around this place that was both familiar and strange, her heart was filled with countless emotions. After eighteen years, she had finally made it through.

Lady Mo gazed at the antique and obsolete furnishings in the storeroom, then thought about her own storeroom. All the family assets she had painfully saved over twenty years were gone, causing her heart to ache. The thought of the hefty sum of money that should have been hers, which had also disappeared, made her even more distressed.

Granny Lau hurried to comfort her, "Madam, though the Silver Coin is gone, we can find ways to earn it back, but you must take care of your health." Third Young Lady had unhesitatingly gone to Ma’s Mansion; except for some bulky furniture, everything else had been moved out, leaving Lanxi Courtyard entirely empty. Not to mention how Lady Mo felt, seeing those belongings that she regarded as her own, Granny Lau was also heartbroken.

A fierce light flashed in Lady Mo’s eyes; her biggest regret now was not acting sooner. She should have taken action right after the Old Madam had passed away.

Granny Lau said, "Madam, there’s still a long time ahead. Third Young Lady can’t possibly get married within Ma’s Mansion." Where there’s a will, there’s a way to find a loophole.

Lady Mo nodded her head. Yet now Lady Mo wasn’t so confident anymore. That cunning girl had even sought out Marquis Jingning’s Residence for a Bai Yi, completely deceiving her. In three to five years, when the girl’s influence had grown, she would be even less manageable. This made Lady Mo ask sternly, "Why did that damned girl go to the mountain? Have you found out anything?"

Granny Lau shook her head, "I haven’t found out, but people from Ma’s Mansion said she seems to have gone to pray for the Old Madam. However, I heard that Third Young Lady seems to be staying in a courtyard within Zhaohua Temple and doesn’t need anything sent from Ma’s Mansion. I couldn’t find out anything more."

Lady Mo’s expression turned cold.

Granny Lau added, "Madam, I heard that the Luo Family’s daughter is also on the mountain." It seemed likely the two were together.

At this moment, Yueyao, the subject of their conversation, had just finished her lunch. She looked up at the crystal-clear sky and went hiking up the mountain with Mingzhu.

The group moved slowly, stopping occasionally, and by the time they reached the mountain’s peak, it was already dusk, and they stood looking down from the top.

The valley’s wind carried a strong chill, driving the white mists down the mountain. Meanwhile, the mountain’s shadow quickly pressed down on the village, growing ever denser until it blended into the night.

Yueyao gazed at the scenery before her without blinking an eye.

Mingzhu looked left and right, seeing mostly trees. Except for a few evergreens, most were bare, with any remaining leaves blown off by the wind.

In a soft voice, Mingzhu asked Bai Yi, "Do you think there’s anything worth seeing here? I don’t think it’s as pretty as my family’s garden."

Bai Yi also didn’t see anything special, but she knew Yueyao’s perspective was different. Smiling, she said, "Miss, you can’t really compare this place to a garden. The garden’s scenery is beautiful, but it’s not on the same level as the mountain."

Mingzhu couldn’t understand Yueyao’s thoughts but didn’t disturb her, letting her continue to gaze intently. After a while, Mingzhu said quietly, "Bai Yi, do you think her eyes will hurt from not blinking? I’m really worried..."

Bai Yi replied, "Don’t worry. Now there’s only the glow of the sky, no sun, so it won’t be dazzling, and naturally, it won’t hurt her eyes."

The moon had risen, bathing the mountains in a silvery hue.

Just then, a howl of a wolf made Mingzhu shiver and clutch Yueyao’s hand, "Yueyao, there are wild beasts here; we should hurry back!" She was a bit scared.

Bai Yi also felt it wasn’t very safe here. It would be fine during the day, but at night, with many wild animals on the mountain, it could be troublesome if they encountered a large one. "Miss Yueyao, there are wild beasts around. Although we have many people here, it’s still better to be cautious."

Yueyao laughed, "Okay." She wouldn’t dare to come here alone; this time, she had only dared because Bai Yi and Xiang Wei were with her, and seeing the sunset was already more than satisfying.

On her way back, Yueyao expressed some regrets, "I heard there’s a plum grove behind Zhaohua Temple. In the twelfth lunar month when the plum blossoms bloom, it’s like a fairyland. It’s a pity I couldn’t see it."

Xiang Wei glanced sideways at Yueyao. She definitely said that to let Mingzhu hear, hoping Mingzhu would clear the way for her.

Mingzhu frowned, "There’s such a thing? Since it’s a beautiful sight, it should naturally be something to be enjoyed." The temple’s monks were really too bullying.
