Chapter 500: 186 Money_3

Ruo Lan began to feel immensely happy, but was extremely surprised as she listened further and asked, "Do you mean that the Third Miss of the Luo Family later accompanied you in practicing calligraphy every day and sincerely followed the music master to learn music?" Everyone knew about Luo Mingzhu’s bad temper when she socialized, but no one expected her to be tamed by Yueyao.

Yueyao shook her head: "Hmm, Mingzhu isn’t as bad as the rumors suggest. She just has a bit of a temper, but her nature is actually quite good." Yueyao was speaking the truth, for if Luo Mingzhu were a truly malicious person, Yueyao would only handle her as a task and not invest much effort.

Ruo Lan laughed: "You, girl, are really sincere. But it’s good in a way, for you’ve gained another friend." Although Luo Mingzhu had a bit of a temper, her social standing was indeed strong, and having Mingzhu’s favor was a good thing for Yueyao.

Yueyao smiled and then asked, "Is the second cousin’s wedding set for the end of this year or the beginning of next year?" They were planning to welcome a daughter-in-law, so it was likely to be at the end of the twelfth lunar month.

Ruo Lan replied, "It’s set at the end of the twelfth lunar month."

Yueyao had a complex expression. If Ma Yue’s marriage was set for the end of the month, then Lady Cheng would soon return. Yueyao was very repulsed by Lady Cheng; Ma’s Mansion was peaceful and comfortable without Lady Cheng and Linlin there. When they returned, Ma’s Mansion would become troublesome again.

Just as Yueyao was thinking about this problem, she heard that Loo Ying had come over.

Upon hearing the maid’s report, Yueyao couldn’t help but frown, wondering why Loo Ying always appeared at Ma’s Mansion whenever she was there. It couldn’t be that many coincidences; it must be intentional.

After greeting Loo Ying, Yueyao stood up and said, "Cousin-in-law, I still need to visit the Li family. I also have things to discuss with Auntie Li."

Loo Ying’s eyes lit up upon hearing Yueyao’s words and immediately said, "Cousin, it’s been a long time since I saw my cousin, and I really miss him."

Yueyao was surprised, wondering why Loo Ying would suddenly mention Tingzheng. Yueyao would not naively believe Loo Ying truly missed Tingzheng: "Thank you for your concern, cousin. Tingzheng is very well."

Seeing Yueyao smile without responding to her, Loo Ying grimaced and said, "Cousin, I wish to accompany you to visit my cousin. What do you think?"

Although Yueyao did not know why Loo Ying was so enthusiastic, there was a saying that if someone is overly courteous, they are either a thief or up to something; Loo Ying’s wish to accompany her to visit Tingzheng was definitely not a good sign.

Yueyao declined, "Cousin, if you miss Tingzheng, I will bring him with me next time I come to Ma’s Mansion."

Zhuang Ruolan also thought Loo Ying’s request was rather odd. Even if Yueyao had not refused, she would not have allowed Loo Ying to follow Yueyao to Li Mansion. Yueyao could go to the Li family because of the good relationship between their elders, which Yueyao had always maintained, but it would be embarrassing for Loo Ying, an unrelated person, to butt in.

Ruo Lan saw Yueyao out of the courtyard and exchanged a few words with Loo Ying before sending her back to her own yard. Ruo Lan instructed Cai Yun, "Go ask her maid or the old nanny if Miss Ying has encountered something lately?" It wasn’t likely that Loo Ying acted on a whim today; she might be facing some issue.

Ruo Lan took the recipes Yueyao had given her, selected two items and copied them down, and called the trusted Kitchen Maid from the small kitchen.

Zhuang Ruolan had the Kitchen Maid prepare two dishes according the methods she had provided. Zhuang Ruolan did not distrust the items given by Yueyao, but by trying these dishes herself, she knew their quality and would also have a better standing in pricing negotiations later on.

Upon arriving at the Li Mansion, Yueyao also received a warm reception from Lady Li.

Lady Li looked at Yueyao, increasingly impressive, and felt very glad. She inquired about Yueyao’s affairs at Lian Mansion and then about Luo Mingzhu.

Yueyao always reported the positive and not the troubles; she would not elaborate on the vexing matters at Lian Mansion. She picked out some entertaining stories from the manor and shared them, including her interactions with Luo Mingzhu—of course, speaking highly of her.

Lady Li was somewhat skeptical.

Yueyao smilingly said, "Auntie, I’m telling the truth. Sister Luo is actually quite nice, and we get along very well." Ah, Yueyao had no idea that Luo Mingzhu’s reputation was already so tarnished at this time. It seemed that changing people’s perception of Mingzhu would take a great deal of effort. But having achieved a good start, things would surely be different going forward.

Lady Li said affectionately, "You always tell your Auntie the pleasant things, yet you keep the hardships to yourself." Such a sensible child truly deserved compassion.

As Yueyao spoke with Lady Li, she brought up her desire for Tingzheng to learn Martial Skills. Yueyao stated, "Auntie, learning some Kung Fu could help Tingzheng defend himself and also strengthen his body."
