Chapter 485: Chapter 179 Bowing Down_2
Hua Shaoye said, "Miss, I will go up the mountain to find some fruit to stave off hunger."
Yueyao shook her head, "It’s not safe in these desolate woods and mountains. We’ll just have to bear it. How much longer until we can descend the mountain?"
Bi Shaoye replied, "It will still be a while!" They hadn’t even completed half of their journey. "The Miss seems fine, having walked such a long distance without appearing tired, but this maid keeps stopping for rest."
Xi Yu felt like crying upon hearing this.
The group had just stood up, preparing to set out again when Hua Shaoye suddenly said, "Miss, there is a carriage coming down from the mountain."
Xiang Wei walked over to Yueyao and whispered, "Miss, if you were to faint, it would be more effective." It was all an act, a ploy.
Yueyao nodded, thinking it was a good idea.
As soon as Yueyao nodded, she felt her body go limp, and then she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she found herself back in the courtyard on the mountain.
With tears in her eyes, Xi Yu said, "Miss, the doctor said you’ve suffered a heatstroke. Had it been any later, you might have lost your life."
Mingzhu stood on the side, not daring to speak, burdened with guilt. If it weren’t for her temper, Yueyao wouldn’t have suffered heatstroke and nearly lost her life. Yet, when it came to apologizing, Mingzhu found herself unable to voice the words.
Yueyao glanced at her and turned her head away.
Mingzhu spoke softly with her head down, "Yueyao, I didn’t do it on purpose." But Yueyao’s response was just the back of her head.
In truth, nothing was wrong with Yueyao; Xiang Wei had meddled with things. Yueyao didn’t even drink the medicine prescribed by the doctor, letting Xiang Wei dispose of it.
After waking up, Yueyao stretched her muscles and headed to the study to practice her calligraphy.
Mingzhu didn’t understand why Yueyao was pushing herself so hard! Missing one day wouldn’t matter. "The doctor said you are not in good health; you should rest more," she said.
Yueyao ignored her.
Mingzhu felt guilty and didn’t dare say anything more. Bai Yi murmured something into her ear, and Mingzhu also went to the desk to practice her calligraphy. After writing a few characters, she stole glances at Yueyao.
Bai Yi stood to the side, itching to laugh at the pitiful look on his Miss’s face. He had been around the Miss for several years and had never seen her look so pitiful before!
Yueyao said indifferently, "When practicing calligraphy, you must concentrate. If you’re not going to concentrate, don’t waste time." Yueyao wasn’t angry, just maintaining the demeanor required.
Relieved that Yueyao had finally spoken to her, Mingzhu bowed her head and began to write earnestly.
An hour later, Yueyao looked at Mingzhu; today’s progress was not bad. She hadn’t complained of suffering or tiredness during the extended period, which was an unexpected gain.
Yueyao, feeling tired from writing, walked out of the study.
Luo Mingzhu saw Yueyao leaving and put down her pen to follow.
Entering the courtyard, Mingzhu hesitantly said, "I was wrong about today’s incident." She had heard about Yueyao’s heatstroke while on the carriage, and seeing Yueyao lying on the ground, pale and unconscious, scared her half to death. Even though Yueyao turned out to be alright in the end, Luo Mingzhu still felt frightened.
Mingzhu glanced at Yueyao’s calm face and felt even more upset inside. She finally regretted it, wondering why she had made such a big deal out of a small matter.
Yueyao looked at her and said indifferently, "You should apologize to Bai Yi first."
Mingzhu glared at Bai Yi, who wore an innocent expression. Bai Yi genuinely felt innocent, it was Yueyao who said the girl should apologize to him, not himself.
Mingzhu, looking at Yueyao’s indifferent face and thinking about how she had indeed gone too far today, finally mustered up the courage and said to Bai Yi, "I shouldn’t have said those words to you this morning, I’m sorry." That was the biggest concession she could make.
Bai Yi shook his head and said, "Miss, it’s okay. It’s natural for you to say such things to me, but think about what would happen if you said the same to others? Miss, you need to control your temper in the future." Yueyao was right, not everyone would tolerate Mingzhu’s temper.
Mingzhu was taken aback that Bai Yi was actually lecturing her, and she stood there, gasping for breath in anger.
Yueyao turned to Mingzhu, whose little face was red with frustration, and said, "I was also at fault today, I shouldn’t have gotten upset with you and left the mountain on my own. Since both of us are to blame, we can call it even." Yueyao meant that she didn’t need Mingzhu to apologize.
Luo Mingzhu looked up and exclaimed, "That’s what you said yourself." Seeing Yueyao nod, Luo Mingzhu added, "Then you can’t shout at me in the future either."
Yueyao: "Eh..." When had she ever shouted?
That evening, Mingzhu asked Yueyao, "You’re frail and should be resting, so why must you practice calligraphy? You won’t die if you skip it for a day." Mingzhu truly couldn’t understand why Yueyao pushed herself so hard, to the point of risking her health. It just wasn’t worth it if she ended up damaging her health. But Mingzhu also felt a bit envious of Yueyao’s determination; she herself lacked such perseverance.
Yueyao, hearing this, said with a smile, "For me, practicing calligraphy is like having three meals a day; it’s an essential part of my daily routine. If I don’t practice for a day, I feel empty inside, and I can’t even sleep well."
Mingzhu thought that Yueyao was exaggerating.
Yueyao chuckled and said, "Mingzhu, once you find something that you can put your whole heart into, you’ll realize that persevering in what you love to do is very fulfilling."
Mingzhu was half-convinced, "But how do you know if it’s something you really like?" She had never found joy in learning anything; there was no pleasure to be found in it for her.
Yueyao responded, "That’s because you’re impatient; you need patience to learn something. Didn’t you say you wanted to learn to whistle tunes using leaves? Then patiently follow the music master and learn the music pieces. Once you’ve learned, you’ll be able to whistle beautiful tunes, and I’m sure you’ll do even better than me."
Mingzhu was skeptical and said, "My mother once hired a teacher for me; she said I had no talent in that area."
Yueyao laughed and said, "If you don’t believe it, let’s make a bet. As long as you study seriously with the music master for three months, I guarantee you’ll be able to play a melodious tune."
Mingzhu thought for a while and then said, "Okay."
The next day, Yueyao accompanied Mingzhu to learn music pieces from the music master.
The music master chosen by Marquis Jingning’s Residence was definitely top-notch. And the music master was very patient, starting with the most basic things. Luo Mingzhu was very serious in her studies, which lasted an entire morning without a single pause.
Not just the music master, but even Bai Yi was surprised. Bai Yi wondered if yesterday’s scolding had changed his master’s nature.
Luo Mingzhu had her reasons for being so diligent: she said to Bai Yi, "I’m thinking of learning the music pieces quickly, so I can also whistle a melodious tune with leaves." This was a rare persistence found by Luo Mingzhu.
Bai Yi didn’t care about the reason; as long as the miss focused on learning, that was enough for him.
