Chapter 426: Chapter 152: Luo Mingzhu (Part 3)

April was indeed the finest of seasons. The weather was neither too cool nor too hot, the whole garden lush and verdant, with the flower beds all abloom, the yard vibrant with life.

Loo Ying was excited; it was her first interaction with a lady of high station, so she wished to make a good impression on Luo Mingzhu.

Luo Mingzhu looked down on Loo Ying and, without casting her a glance, said to Yueyao, "Where do you live? Let’s visit your courtyard." Actually, Luo Mingzhu wanted to see if Yueyao lived up to her reputation as a talented lady.

The commanding tone of Luo Mingzhu furrowed Yueyao’s brow; she was keen to befriend Luo Mingzhu, but only on equal footing, not like a maid, and certainly not to serve like one.

Before Yueyao could reply, Loo Ying chimed in, "Sister Luo, my cousin’s courtyard has a few Begonia trees that are gorgeous, especially now that they are in full bloom."

Yueyao gave Loo Ying a surprised look; as far as she knew, Luo Mingzhu was a year younger than Loo Ying, but observing their heights, Yueyao remained wisely silent.

Although Loo Ying was three years older than Yueyao, they were of similar height, whereas Luo Mingzhu was much taller than Yueyao, leading Loo Ying to assume Luo Mingzhu was older than she.

Luo Mingzhu glanced at Loo Ying and asked, "You call me sister; do you know how old I am? Just calling someone sister without even inquiring about their age, is it so common to acknowledge sisters so carelessly?"

Loo Ying, hearing Luo Mingzhu’s disdainful tone, tensed and quickly apologized, "It’s my fault, I am thirteen this year."

But Luo Mingzhu, as if she hadn’t heard Loo Ying’s words, turned to Yueyao and said, "Lead the way."

Yueyao’s face soured, "Miss Luo, this is the Ma Family, my uncle’s home, not your Marquis Jingning’s Residence." After speaking, Yueyao walked ahead.

Luo Mingzhu was stunned; she had never been shown such disdain before. When she regained her senses, she promptly called out, "Stop, you stop right there!"

Yueyao did not want to pay any heed.

The maid Cai Yi, who had been following them, hurried to Yueyao’s side and whispered, "Miss, please endure it, after all, she’s from the Marquis Jingning’s Residence. Consider the broader connections." Cai Yi knew Yueyao was brimming with talent and pride, and it was only normal for her to be unable to stand the young lady of the Luo family.

Yueyao paused upon hearing Cai Yi’s words, turned to look at Luo Mingzhu, and said with a somewhat chilly voice, "If you wish to see the Begonias in my courtyard, then follow!"

Luo Mingzhu wanted to say she did not care for it, but Yueyao had already turned her back and walked away. Luo Mingzhu felt a surge of frustration in her chest.

A maid dressed in purple beside Luo Mingzhu thought Yueyao was quite interesting, and after a moment’s thought, said to the about-to-get-angry Luo Mingzhu, "Miss, let’s go see if she really is willing to ’Practice Martial Arts.’" This maid felt Yueyao had a good temperament, capable of handling their young lady.

Luo Mingzhu thought there was sense in the maid’s words and, after a cold snort, followed along. As she turned a corner, she spotted Loo Ying catching up, out of breath, which provided the perfect outlet for her irritation, "Who asked you to follow? Don’t come after me anymore." At her words, a maid in indigo dress blocked Loo Ying’s path.

Seeing Luo Mingzhu’s overbearing manner, Cai Yi sighed silently to herself; the arrogance of the young lady of the Luo family was indeed not slanderous.

After a while, the maid in purple chuckled, "Miss, it seems Miss Lian wasn’t lying; look at her, even after walking so far, her expression remains as calm as before."

Luo Mingzhu shot a glance at her maid, her face showing displeasure. She needed no reminder, as if she couldn’t see for herself. Had it not been for this, she would have returned already and not followed.

Yueyao reached the courtyard first, and Luo Mingzhu arrived right behind.

If one were to speak of scenery, the vistas at Marquis Jingning’s Residence outshone Ma’s Mansion by more than a few times, so Luo Mingzhu did not think highly of the few Begonia trees in Begonia Garden.

Luo Mingzhu surveyed the arrangement of the room; plain and simple, yet it felt comfortable. Inside, she dispensed with formality and said, "You claimed you practice the Five Animal Frolics morning and evening, now perform it for me to see."

Yueyao looked at Luo Mingzhu oddly and said, "Miss Luo, I’m quite puzzled. Do you always speak with this commanding tone to everyone?" Initially, Yueyao was indeed annoyed, but upon reflection, she found it peculiar. Luo Mingzhu’s attitude was as if she regarded her as a maid. Even with the great power of Marquis Jingning and favor from the Empress Dowager, it didn’t justify such a lack of propriety in her actions.

Luo Mingzhu was taken aback, "Have I ordered you around?"

Yueyao uttered a curious sound and turned to ask Cai Yi, "Isn’t Miss Luo ordering me around?" The surprise on Yueyao’s face concealed the utter speechlessness in her heart. What kind of environment had fostered such an assumption that everyone should revolve around her?
