Chapter 623: Chapter 623: The Imperial Princess of Destiny VS The Ambitious Sister (Part 6)
"Eighth Princess Your Highness, His Majesty summons you inside," a palace attendant approached her.
Huang Mingge breathed a sigh of relief, Ken letting her up was a good sign.
She staggered to her feet, even falling again due to the weakness in her legs.
The palace attendant beside her stood quietly with hands down. Normally, someone would have hurried to support her by now, right? A bunch of opportunists!
She struggled to her feet, even managing a smile at the attendant, "Thank you for your trouble."
After speaking, she slowly made her way towards the Heavenly Phoenix Palace.
The Phoenix Emperor was seated at the main seat in the side hall, holding a cup of freshly brewed tea.
Huang Mingge walked very slowly, as she had not had a drop of water for two days and looked noticeably unwell, her usually rosy lips even starting to crack and flake.
When has the always cherished Eighth Princess Your Highness ever suffered like this?
The weakened and powerless appearance of Huang Mingge, however, failed to evoke any pity from the Phoenix Emperor: her Changge was still lying unconscious in bed!
Seeing that the Imperial Mother didn’t even spare a glance her way, Huang Mingge fostered a secret hatred and obediently knelt down.
It was always like this, aside from Huang Changge, nobody else could ever truly capture her sincere affection. For her other children, she was always the supreme monarch, sparing even a smile begrudgingly.
Only in front of the Great Princess Huang Changge did she act like an ordinary mother.
Since birth, Huang Mingge had known that her sister, who was the Crown Prince, was different from her—they didn’t live together. From a young age, she’d lived in the most prestigious Heavenly Phoenix Palace, personally raised by their stern Imperial Mother.
It wasn’t until she was fourteen that she moved into Qinghuang Palace, a place signifying the status of the Crown Prince.
"Imperial Mother, your son admits his wrongdoing," Huang Mingge snapped out of it and honestly confessed her faults.
The Phoenix Emperor paused, setting her tea cup on the table, producing a crisp clinking sound.
"Tell me, what are your faults?" her cold voice descended from the upper seat.
Huang Mingge had prepared her arguments during these two days, "That day, son was planning to confront sister. You cherish her so much, yet she... she did such a thing, I couldn’t hold back and wanted to question her. But then I got into an argument with sister..."
As she spoke, tears began to fall.
"Imperial Mother I really was wrong, I was just upset that sister disappointed your expectations, I didn’t know, I really didn’t know why..."
The Phoenix Emperor looked down at this daughter, as siblings, this eighth daughter closely resembled Changge.
But Changge would never display such expressions, even when previously found guilty of betraying her, she would still stand straight-backed, always the Crown Prince who made her the proudest and most satisfied.
"So you only wanted to defend me, but it ended up with you wielding a knife at your own sister?" the Phoenix Emperor’s voice was very calm, Huang Mingge couldn’t tell if she believed her or not.
Changge was someone she had watched grow up; nobody knew her capabilities better than she did.
If she hadn’t trusted this only sister immensely, how could she have let her succeed?
"Imperial Mother, this knife is for my personal protection, I just... I just wanted to scare sister, I never intended to really do it..." knowing she couldn’t avoid responsibility for bringing a weapon into Qinghuang Palace, Huang Mingge hoped that, after all these years, her Imperial Mother still harbored some maternal affection for her, and would choose to believe her.
