Chapter 96: Not Here for Revenge, Right?

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Not Here for Revenge, Right?

After New Year’s Eve, the entire capital city had come alive, and everywhere from main streets to back alleys buzzed with a peaceful and joyous atmosphere.

In the past few days, invitations had flown into the Prince Qiu Residence like snowflakes, all for some boring banquets. Qi Yu was so annoyed that she declined all of them, feigning illness.

She didn’t believe that these people invited her just for eating, drinking, and having fun.

No matter how she looked at it, each event was a trap set up just for her, waiting for her to jump in.

She still visited the Yongchun Hall every day to see patients for two hours, and after returning to the Prince’s Residence at noon, she would eat her fill and then devote herself to reading stories, leading a life of utter idleness.

It must be said that such days were indeed more comfortable than her past.

Previously, she had manned a Medical Hall alone, and even the New Year was spent in solitude.

Now her life could be described as rich and exciting, constantly surrounded by a group of maids, each striving to please her with sweet words.

Qi Yu was not used to being served and only kept Chunlan and Shen Nanxing by her side.

On this day, the third day of the new year, an invitation from the Prime Minister Residence arrived.

Qi Yu stretched and had Chunlan dress her up.

It had been a long time since she’d seen them, and she found she actually missed the days of causing trouble in the Prime Minister Residence.

Li Mingjue was busy with matters in the palace, so she went to the Prime Minister Residence alone. As soon as she alighted from the carriage, she saw Qi Anran with a forced smile on her face.

"Little sister has finally come," she greeted Qi Yu with a stiff smile on her face.

Qi Yu glanced at her and responded with a feigned smile, "Sister, save it."

What a façade of sisterly affection.

The two of them entered the residence one after the other. Qi Wei and the Princess were already sitting in the front hall waiting for them.

Qi Anran greeted them with all due formality, and then the three of them turned to watch Qi Yu.

With it being the New Year, she should show some filial piety.

Qi Yu raised an eyebrow and pointed to her nose, "Why are you looking at me?"

The Princess, seeing her playful and smiling face, couldn’t help but speak up, "It’s the New Year, don’t you know to give your elders a formal greeting and say a few auspicious words?"

Qi Wei kept his dignity and didn’t speak, but his eyes communicated the same expectation.

Qi Yu settled herself down and laughed, "Elders? Did you give birth to me or raise me?"

Her words were bold and resolute; she had no relation to this family whatsoever.

The Princess pointed at her and scolded furiously, "Do you think you were born and grew up all by yourself?"

Unmoved, Qi Yu stood up and faced her, "What kind of days I’ve lived in this house, don’t you know perfectly well?"

Before the Princess could continue, she turned around and left, leaving behind the words, "I’m going to see my mother."

Both Chunlan and Shen Nanxing could tell that the Qi Family must have done many unconscionable things to anger her so, and they followed Qi Yu with shared enemy, sparing not a glance for the rest.

Upon reaching the ancestral hall, Qi Yu saw the ancestral tablet covered with a thick layer of dust and frowned.

She asked a maid standing by to get a cloth and a basin of water, but that maid, thinking she was still the docile second young lady, turned her head away and muttered, "Miss, get it yourself."

Before Qi Yu could speak, Chunlan stepped forward and slapped the maid, her tone icy, "Didn’t you hear what the Princess said?"

The maid, struck unexpectedly, looked at Qi Yu in disbelief.

How dare this fool mistreat her?

Chunlan didn’t give her time to recover and slapped her again, "How dare you, is the Princess someone you can look at as you please?"

The maid had been beaten by her to the point of being unable to lift her head, covering her face and weeping, "What did I do wrong, Princess, for you to bully me like this?"

Qi Yu stepped forward, her gaze fixed directly on her, "What you mean is, I can no longer discipline you?"

She did have some recollection of this maid, named Xia Xing, who, in the original host’s memories, was someone who bullied the weak but feared the strong, and often did bad things.

Since she had run into her, naturally, she had to vent the original host’s frustrations properly.

Xia Xing felt as if someone was clutching her neck under her cold gaze and shook her head blankly, "That isn’t what I meant."

The person in front of her had the same face as the foolish young lady in her memory, but the feeling she gave was completely different.

Moreover, her expression was clear, not at all like the foolish demeanor she had before.

Xia Xing panicked, worried that the things she had done before would lead to retaliation, and quickly knelt down to beg for mercy, "Miss...no, Princess, please spare me!"

"Those things were all ordered by the older miss, I never thought to bully you!"

Qi Yu looked at her indifferently as she cried out her grievances.

While most things were indeed ordered by Qi Anran, this girl was no angel.

Not to mention bullying the original host, she also purposely framed her, making Qi Anran despise her even more.

Xia Xing timidly looked up at her, "Princess, I truly realize my mistake now."

Qi Yu slightly curved her lips, her smile not reaching her eyes. She turned to Shen Nanxing and instructed in a detached tone, "Throw her into the lake, and fish her out after an hour."

Xia Xing’s eyes widened in terror, desperately pleading, "Princess, please don’t!"

Qi Yu looked down at her, her tone light yet inexplicably chilling, "What is there to fear? I am merely returning, bit by bit, what you have done to me."

Having said that, she directly gestured for Shen Nanxing to take her away.

Chunlan had initially thought this maid just looked down on their Princess, not expecting her to have been so cruel, regretting that her own slaps should have been harder.

The lake was already covered with a layer of ice, which broke when Xia Xing was thrown in.

Struggling to her feet, she stood in the water, which came up to her knees, shivering coldly.

She suddenly remembered the scene from when Qi Yu, only ten at the time, was pushed into the lake by her.

Back then, she stood on the shore, watching with a mocking gaze as the fool struggled to climb ashore, only to push her back in, tormenting her for a whole hour before letting her go.

Every action returns in kind.

Qi Yu cleaned the plaque carefully, thought it over, and decided to take the plaque away.

The dead can’t come back to life, but there was also no need to leave the plaque in the Prime Minister Residence to gather dust.

To prevent the people from the Prime Minister Residence from noticing, Chunlan found a piece of cloth, carefully wrapped the plaque, and carried it out to the carriage.

When Xia Xing was fished out, she was already out of her senses.

Not from the cold, but from fear.

She had done too many conscience-needing deeds, her mind was continuously haunted by Qi Yu’s face.

When others took her back to her room, she kept muttering repeatedly the same words, "I was wrong, I was wrong..."

Qi Yu heard the news and showed no particular expression.

She brought it upon herself.

The original host was already dead, and she would not spare any of these people.

In the front hall, Qi Anran also learned of this incident, his eyelids twitched, and he looked anxiously at Wang Shi, "Mother, surely the fool isn’t truly here for revenge?"
