Chapter 92: Chapter 92: How Dare I Be Angry with the Prince?

Having been carried all the way by him, Qi Yu felt she could no longer show her face.

Once in the front hall, Li Mingjue finally set her down.

Qi Yu promptly chose the seat farthest away from him and sat down, her eyes warily watching him as if afraid he would do something to mortify her even further.

Seeing her act as if she couldn’t stay away from him fast enough, Li Mingjue slightly raised an eyebrow and said, "Just now at the hostel, I met Princess Lingya, and she said to me..."

He deliberately paused just as he reached the critical point of his story.

Seeing him not continuing, Qi Yu, unable to contain her curiosity, glared at him with moist eyes.

Who just stops talking halfway through!

Li Mingjue chuckled softly, beckoned her with a crooked finger, and coaxed her in a playful tone, "Come here, and I will tell you."

Qi Yu felt increasingly like prey under someone’s watch, yet she frustratingly fell for it anyway.

She slowly made her way over to him and looked at him somewhat annoyed, "Can you speak now!"

Li Mingjue pulled her into his arms and, once Qi Yu stopped struggling, began to speak slowly, "She said to tell the Princess to say thank you."

Qi Yu’s expression faltered before she let out a long sigh, "Dealing with smart people is convenient, but it’s also utterly exhausting."

She instantly knew Princess Lingya must have guessed the mysterious person’s real identity.

But how did she give herself away?

Qi Yu thought hard for a long while but couldn’t figure it out.

She frowned in irritation, "What exactly does Princess Lingya mean?"

Was it simply to express gratitude or was it a threat?

Recalling the way Princess Lingya had spoken, Li Mingjue murmured, "She must have sincerely wanted to thank you."

He was just telling the truth—he really hadn’t felt any malice from Princess Lingya.

Qi Yu glanced at him, "Oh."

Seeing her react like that, Li Mingjue knew she was jealous again and, chuckling, patted her head, "Still angry?"

Qi Yu struggled out of his embrace, turned her back to him, and said indifferently, "How dare I be angry with the Prince?"

Clearly angry, yet she still claimed she didn’t dare with a poker face.

Li Mingjue shook his head helplessly and changed the subject, "The emperor has decreed that Sir Qiu must find the poisoner within three days."

Qi Yu turned around and scoffed, "It seems this Sir Qiu is in for it."

The poisoner must already be in Princess Lingya’s grasp by now, and things didn’t look good.

Even if Qiu Lian and Li Ming’an were to dig three feet into the ground, they would not be able to find Heifeng.

Moreover, even if Qiu Lian found the slightest clue, Li Ming’an would not let him off.

If he can’t find anyone, the emperor will deal with him.

If he does find someone, Li Ming’an will target him.

This time Qiu Lian is caught between a rock and a hard place, unable to escape his fate no matter what.

Merely thinking about it made Qi Yu feel overwhelmed; being an official was not an easy job indeed.

She might as well stick to her own little medical hall and live a carefree life.

The next day, Qi Yu was still clad in black when he appeared at Yongchun Hall.

In recent days, there had been no shortage of patients, mostly impoverished people who lacked the means to afford medical treatment.

Initially, they came to test the waters because of Yongchun Hall’s rule of not charging the poor, but after a few treatments, their illnesses were actually cured.

Yongchun Hall’s reputation grew increasingly prominent, even challenging that of the largest Medical Hall in the capital city, Tongfu Hall.

Tongfu Hall was lavishly decorated, its interior brimming with countless precious and expensive medicinal materials. Its fees were higher than other places, but there were plenty of wealthy people in the capital city, ensuring that Tongfu Hall never lacked business.

But lately, many had shifted their attention to Yongchun Hall, situated just one street away from Tongfu Hall.

The rules for seeing a doctor at Yongchun Hall had initially caused dissatisfaction, but the owner of the place was truly formidable. Although he only provided consultations for two hours each day, people began queuing up early to secure a spot.

Most were the indigent afflicted with illness, while some were merely curious to see if Yongchun Hall really lived up to its name.

Among them were some from Tongfu Hall in disguise.

"Young master, if we queue up here and the master finds out, he’ll definitely be angry!" said a young boy in a hushed tone, his face fretful as he spoke to the handsome man lined up in front of him.

The one called young master was none other than the son of Tongfu Hall’s owner, Lu Chen.

Defined by naturally sharp and sword-like eyebrows that accentuated his profound brow ridge, he deliberately applied heavy makeup to pale his complexion and avoid recognition.

He was dressed in tattered clothing, hunched over, looking no different from the patients lined up before him.

"What’s there to fear? This is called scouting the enemy. Father would surely praise me if he knew!" Lu Chen glanced at his timid manservant with dissatisfaction and said.

After so many years at his side, Lu Zhou was still such a coward.

Unable to argue back, Lu Zhou anxiously surveyed their surroundings, worried about being recognized.

After all, if it became known that the eldest son of Tongfu Hall was queuing up at another Medical Hall’s doorstep, it would certainly be a laughingstock.

Qi Yu sat behind the desk, glancing at the people queuing outside the door.

The crowd had grown larger in the past few days.

Fortunately, they were mostly minor ailments, none requiring pulse diagnosis; she could accurately determine their condition just by looking at their complexions.

Since her handwriting was average, Song Ling would write the prescriptions, then have Manager Qian prepare the medicines accordingly. The three of them worked well together, making the task quite manageable.

As soon as the appointed two hours had passed, Qi Yu stood up and went upstairs without dawdling.

Manager Qian stepped outside and bowed to the crowd, saying, "Time is up, everyone. Please come back again tomorrow."

Many sighed in disappointment, but they couldn’t really complain—Yongchun Hall’s rules were well-known to all.

Some who had queued all morning couldn’t help grumbling, "Couldn’t you see patients for a few more hours!"

"Exactly, so much for having the ’compassionate heart of a doctor’!"

Having stood there for an hour without catching sight of the owner of Yongchun Hall, Lu Chen remarked angrily, "A mere charlatan!"

Song Ling had just packed up his writing materials and was about to go upstairs when he overheard this comment and stopped.

Standing within the threshold, he asked Lu Chen, "What is the meaning of the gentleman’s words?"

Lu Chen, aggravated, blurted out, "I’m saying your master is a shameless villain! What’s this about only treating patients for two hours a day? He’s just exploiting these sick people. People have been queuing all morning—would it kill him to see a few more patients for a bit longer?"

His words garnered considerable agreement.

Song Ling silently waited for them to finish then calmly stated, "The rules for seeking treatment at Yongchun Hall were established early in the morning. If you are dissatisfied, you are free to seek treatment elsewhere. My master is kind-hearted and takes special care to spare two hours daily to treat everyone. Yet, this kind intent is turned against him; I wonder who truly lacks shame?"
