Chapter 272: Chapter 272 How long do you think you can live?
Liu Wensheng knew he couldn’t hide it from her, and he did not deny it, just responding with a faint "Hmm."
Qi Yu massaged her temples, feeling somewhat powerless, and said, "There are now roughly six types of potent poison wreaking havoc in your body. How long do you think you can live without the antidote?"
Some things were beyond her control, and it was not her place to blame.
But the current situation was truly distressing.
In the past at Evil Valley, there were only five types of poisons, none too intense, but after a trip to the capital city, another lethal poison was added to the mix.
Having been threatened by the Empress for so many years, how could he not know her methods?
To willingly walk into certain death, did he think his life was too long?
Upon hearing this, Liu Wensheng was much more composed than her.
He looked down and said, "It will be fine as long as I accomplish what I need to do."
Qi Yu was so frustrated with him that her head ached, "You shouldn’t enter the Imperial Palace in the next few days. Stay at the Prince Residence, and I will have my master find a way to detoxify you."
Liu Wensheng was about to refuse but was silenced by a glare from Qi Yu, swallowing the words he had at the tip of his tongue.
He took a sip of tea and then thought of the person at the inn.
It was almost noon by now; at this hour, that person might still be waiting for him to return for the meal.
Qi Yu, unaware of his thoughts, had decisively ordered Li Bo to clean up a room for him.
She also sent someone to make a trip to the palace and fetched Mo Qingshan, who was stealing drinks all over the Imperial Palace.
Since returning to the capital, Mo Qingshan’s days were particularly leisurely and carefree.
He didn’t miss any chance to swipe a few drinks from the Imperial Kitchen while Li Tianze had him in the palace to provide guidance to the Imperial Physicians.
Fortunately, Li Tianze was not much of a drinker, otherwise there would have been a major uproar trying to capture this thief.
It just so happened Song Ling returned with the three little ones, and Qi Yu, along with Liu Wensheng, went to Tinglan Pavilion to dine together.
Upon seeing him, Song Ting, who was still somewhat drowsy, instantly woke up. Pointing at Liu Wensheng, he stammered, "Cousin-in-law, this... isn’t he the big villain? How... how come he’s here?"
The fear of Liu Wensheng had been deeply ingrained in his bones.
Unexpectedly, Qi Yu patted his head and informed him of an even more terrifying piece of news, "He will be staying at the Prince Residence for a while."
Song Ting pouted unhappily, but he couldn’t just kick him out.
Liu Wensheng watched the startled little lad and pursed his lips slightly.
He had indeed frightened the boy too much before.
But then, he glanced sideways, his gaze fixating on the other two little ones, beholding their chubby faces, he actually felt an itch in his hands.
These past few days, the population of the Prince Residence had suddenly increased, and Li Bo would instruct the kitchen to prepare a few extra dishes daily.
Song Ting, upon seeing his big drumstick, instantly forgot everything else; grabbing one in each hand, he tore and bit into them voraciously, his eating manner quite savage.
Qi Mu and Qi Xuan also ate quietly, their fighting power not as strong as Song Ting’s, but they too filled their bellies until they bulged.
Qi Yu, worried they might overeat and feel uncomfortable, massaged their stomachs for a while before letting Song Ling take them to nap.
Contentedly fed and watered, Song Ting also began to feel sleepy, yawning widely. He forgot everything else and went back to his room for more sleep.
There was now only Qi Yu and Liu Wensheng left in Tinglan Pavilion.
Li Bo had the table cleared according to Qi Yu’s instructions and had someone serve a pot of tea.
Liu Wensheng was somewhat distracted as he drank his tea, his thoughts lingering on Feng Yue.
Feng Yue was stubborn; if Liu Wensheng did not return, Feng Yue was resolved not to eat first.
After thinking for a moment, Liu Wensheng said to Qi Yu, "My belongings are still at the inn; I need to go back there."
Qi Yu guarded him warily. "You wouldn’t be thinking of sneaking off, would you?"
Liu Wensheng’s expression took on a hint of helplessness. "I won’t."
Only then did Qi Yu relent and let him go, but she gave him just one hour.
"In an hour, my master and I will be waiting for you in the courtyard," Qi Yu reminded him before he left.
"Alright," Liu Wensheng responded.
Returning to the inn, Liu Wensheng waited in his room for a while but didn’t hear the familiar knocking. He couldn’t help but frown.
His room was close to Feng Yue’s, and the soundproofing here was poor. Whenever he came back, Feng Yue could hear him.
Usually, as soon as Feng Yue heard any noise, he would immediately come over with the food box.
Today, however, there was silence.
Liu Wensheng’s eyebrows knitted together, and just as he was about to go next door to look for him, a slow-paced voice sounded from outside.
His expression eased, and he quickly opened the door. Facing Feng Yue, his demeanor remained cold. "Come in."
Feng Yue had long been accustomed to his manner, and even though he was met with a cold front, he still put on an eager appearance.
But today, his lips were pursed, and his expression rather solemn.
After placing down the food box wordlessly, he moved his lips, as though wanting to say something, but no sound came out for a long while.
Liu Wensheng found his behavior odd, but he didn’t want to talk with the man.
Thus, the two sat opposite each other, each harboring their own thoughts in silence.
"Little Liuliu, eat," Feng Yue finally said after a long while, pushing the meal towards him with a somewhat hoarse voice.
Liu Wensheng had deliberately not eaten much at the Prince Residence so he could save his appetite, but now, looking at the plentiful meal, he felt somewhat nauseous.
He picked up the chopsticks and took a few bites before speaking indifferently, "I’ll have to go to Prince Qiu Residence in a while."
Feng Yue’s eyes were fixed on him, his expression tense and fleeting with an indefinable hint of regret.
Head lowered, Liu Wensheng didn’t see his look and continued in a faint voice, "I will be staying at the Prince Residence for a while. You..."
He intended to make Feng Yue wise up and leave the capital city, a place rife with troubles, as soon as possible.
But Feng Yue interrupted him, his expression serious. "I will go with you."
Liu Wensheng slammed down his chopsticks and scolded, "Nonsense!"
Seeing him angry, a flash of panic swept across Feng Yue’s eyes. "Little Liuliu, I didn’t..."
Liu Wensheng waved his hand to cut him off. "Don’t say anymore. There are so many places in the world. You can go anywhere, just don’t follow me!"
Feng Yue’s lips pressed thinly, and after a moment of silence, he said, "Alright."
Getting the answer he wanted, Liu Wensheng wasn’t particularly happy either.
He found the man’s presence irritating when he showed up uninvited.
Yet, when he truly disappeared, Liu Wensheng felt a hollow emptiness within.
Feng Yue packed up the food box and went downstairs. Liu Wensheng, after getting his belongings together quickly, didn’t linger. He avoided crowded places and entered Prince Qiu Residence through the back door.
He was in such a rush that he didn’t notice someone was following him from not too far behind.
In the backyard, Mo Qingshan, drunk with wine, was fast asleep.
He had just had several pots of wine in the Imperial Palace when he was informed that Qi Yu, that girl, was looking for him, forcing him to leave the Palace reluctantly.
Qi Yu, flipping through a booklet of scripts by her side, promptly nudged Mo Qingshan awake upon seeing Liu Wensheng.
In a daze, Mo Qingshan saw a figure in white. As he began to remember the identity of the person, he was instantly jolted awake.
