Chapter 223: Chapter 223 The Princess of Qi is Indeed Extraordinary
Song Ting scratched his head in embarrassment, "Yesterday, I trampled and killed your flowers. Grandpa gave me some silver to buy seeds to plant."
Qi Yu accepted the tea the maid brought over, took a sip, and said, "Alright, in a bit, I’ll take you out to the street to buy some."
Hearing this, Song Ting incredulously widened his eyes, "You’re going out to the street?"
In his mind, the women of these estates never stepped outside the main entrance, let alone stroll the streets at will. Which family’s young lady or madam could do this so casually?
Moreover, she was a princess.
Wouldn’t her cousin have objections to this?
His eyes were wide open, and although he said nothing, the words he wanted to say were plainly evident on his face.
Qi Yu didn’t say much; just like usual days, she changed into casual clothes, took her fan, and left the house.
Without any attendants, only the Hidden Guard accompanied her.
She held Song Ting’s little hand, making sure the rambunctious child wouldn’t get lost.
Song Ting meanwhile kept looking around guiltily, "Is it really okay for you to run out like this?"
He had heard that those princesses from the Imperial Palace needed the emperor’s consent to leave at will.
Although his cousin-in-law was just a princess, it was pretty much the same, right?
Qi Yu tapped his little head with her fan, which elicited a cry of pain. She looked ahead and said casually, "Watch the road."
Song Ting followed her with his head covered, feeling wronged, and entered a shop that sold seeds.
The shop owner clearly remembered this distinguished young master. Upon seeing Qi Yu, he cheerfully asked, "Are you here to buy seeds again, young master?"
Disguising her voice, Qi Yu chatted leisurely with the shop owner, "Indeed, the last batch I planted was trampled to death by the wild child at home."
Only then did the shop owner notice the childlike Song Ting beside her, nodded in understanding and asked Qi Yu, "The same as last time?"
Qi Yu pointed at a few other flower varieties, "Wrap these up as well."
"Alright!" Spotting a big sale, the shop owner quickly complied and deftly packaged the seeds.
He was extremely grateful to the rambunctious kid.
Song Ting’s face turned a shade of embarrassed red, but his curiosity got the better of him as he peered at the nondescript seeds.
"There’s nothing interesting to see." He muttered to himself.
As soon as he finished speaking, his head was tapped again.
"Hey, why do you keep hitting me!" Song Ting protested, sticking out his neck.
Looking at his still baby-faced cheeks, Qi Yu apologised with little sincerity, "Sorry, my hand slipped."
Song Ting was frustrated.
After a bit of squabbling and paying with silver, they took several packets of seeds and left the shop.
Along the way, everything was new and tempting to Song Ting.
He hadn’t walked far before his hands were full of food and toys.
Munching on a hot steamed bun, his mouth glistening with grease and holding a small slingshot, he was overjoyed.
Unable to bear it, Qi Yu took out a handkerchief, wiped his mouth, and threw the handkerchief away with disgust.
Song Ting didn’t mind; as long he had food, he was happy.
As they were walking, a carriage suddenly charged towards them, startling the pedestrians.
Qi Yu’s heart tightened, and she quickly pulled the youngster to the side to avoid it.
While Song Ting was enjoying his fragrant bun, it fell to the ground as she suddenly yanked him away, rolling on the dirt and getting completely soiled.
He pursed his lips and glared at the carriage with hatred.
The carriage continued its wild dash, and Qi Yu furrowed his brows, shouting, "Shiqi."
A moment later, a shadow leaped into the air and grabbed the reins, bringing the carriage to a halt.
Upon seeing the carriage stop, Song Ting, who still harbored a grudge over the half-eaten meat bun, wriggled out of Qi Yu’s grasp, clutched his slingshot, and dashed over.
Qi Yu’s forehead twitched, and he quickly chased after the unruly child.
Shiqi, holding the reins, watched as the little master, clutching a slingshot and fuming with anger, ran over, and a vein on his temple throbbed subtly.
Song Ting was very bold, and he yelled at the person inside the carriage, "Come out at once, all of you inside!"
Qi Yu felt a darkening of his vision and pressed his forehead, feeling as if he had aged ten years.
The person inside the carriage, still in shock, heard Song Ting’s young voice, lifted the curtain, and glared at him with displeasure, "Where did this brat come from, daring to speak to this young master in such a way!"
Arms akimbo, Song Ting believed he looked quite imposing, "You just caused me to lose a meat bun, pay up!"
The person inside the carriage scoffed disdainfully, "A mere meat bun, and you dare accuse this young master of wrongdoing, Lai Fu, drag him out!"
The servant named Lai Fu climbed up from the ground, trembling with fear.
He was just managing the horse when it suddenly went mad, charging wildly until someone dropped from the sky and seized it, causing him to fall to the ground.
Hearing his young master’s words, he dared not feign death and tried to placate the angry child, "Little friend, would it be okay if I compensate you for the meat bun?"
Song Ting shook his head, "No, I want him to pay!"
Although he disliked studying, he was not unreasonable.
It was clearly the fault of the young master inside the carriage, with his crooked face; why should a servant apologize on his behalf?
Lai Fu was panicked, knowing all too well how brutal his own young master could be. What was he to do if his young master became angry and killed the child?
The patience of the person in the carriage was exhausted. He lifted the curtain, stepped in front of Song Ting, lowered his head, and looked at him with displeasure, "Brat, are you seeking death?"
Song Ting rolled his eyes, raised his slingshot, and unapologetically flicked it at his face.
Struck by the shot, the young master in white bore a red mark on his face and, furious, tried to grab the little brat by the neck. However, before he could touch Song Ting, Shiqi pushed his hand away with a palm strike.
"You... you’re all in it together!" The young master in white screamed out, pointing at Shiqi’s stoic face and cursing.
Song Ting joyfully jumped up and applauded while Qi Yu could no longer bear to watch and picked up the little troublemaker, "Behave yourself!"
"Oh," Song Ting, not daring to offend his cousin-in-law Qi Yu, drooped his head when she glared at him, looking deflated.
The young master in white heard a pleasing voice and hurriedly looked over, seeing a fair-faced young master startled for a moment.
Upon closer inspection, his eyes, which had seen countless people, immediately saw through Qi Yu’s disguise as a man.
Qi Yu found such gazes very distasteful. She slightly furrowed her brows and said to the young master in white, "Why would a young master barge around the marketplace recklessly in the broad daylight?"
Put on the spot with the question, the young master in white didn’t know how to respond.
The surrounding citizens looked at him with condemning eyes; had it not been for the man in black who descended from the sky, who knows how many would have suffered.
Lai Fu quickly knelt down and apologized, "Forgive us, everyone, it was all my fault."
The young master in white held his head high, unwilling to admit fault in a low voice; after all, it was the servant’s mistake, not his concern.
Qi Yu, used to seeing such behavior and seeing that no major incident had occurred, couldn’t be bothered to argue further.
She led Song Ting away by the hand.
Unbeknownst to her, after she left, the young master in white stood there a while longer, a glint of sharpness in his eyes, a stark contrast to his previous feigned foolishness.
In a soft voice, he said, "Princess Qi is indeed extraordinary."
Pausing, he then curved his lips into a smile, narrowed his eyes slightly, and savored the thought, "I just wonder what she tastes like."
