Chapter 211: Leaving Your Corpse Intact

Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Leaving Your Corpse Intact

Lin Residence, Lin Wenxuan and his mother had returned from reporting to the government office and were anxiously waiting for news.

Before leaving, they had given the constables a considerable amount of silver, guaranteeing that any news would be delivered to them immediately.

During lunch, Lin’s father noticed the two of them were restless and frowned, "Are you hiding something you’ve done from me?"

Lin’s mother averted her eyes guiltily and forced a smile, "What are you talking about, my lord? What could we possibly do?"

Lin Wenxuan echoed, "Exactly, father. You really don’t trust mother and me."

Upon hearing their denials, Lin’s father’s expression slightly softened.

But in no time, a servant hurried in, panting, "Master, there’s trouble! People from the government are at the door!"

Lin’s father slammed his chopsticks down and bolted up, "Why would people from the government suddenly come over?"

The servant nodded repeatedly, head bowed. He didn’t know why they came; he only saw the government’s people looking fierce and thought to report it.

Both Lin’s mother and Lin Wenxuan exchanged a glance, their eyes lighting up.

Could it be that they had found the person?

As they thought this, Zhou Hong burst in with his men, looking at the Lin family of three with disdain and frowning.

Unaware of the looming disaster, Lin Wenxuan saw the portrait in Zhou Hong’s hand and stepped forward politely, bowing and asking, "Official, have you found the swindler who stole our gold?"

Lin’s mother was also nervously clutching her handkerchief, looking at Zhou Hong with hopeful eyes.

Lin’s father, kept in the dark, was confused, "What swindler?"

Lin’s mother, fearing he would say something unfavorable in front of the constable, which could give them away and cause trouble, quickly stepped forward, signaling with her eyes and said apologetically, "My lord, have you forgotten? Last night our residence lost ten thousand taels of gold; it must have been that swindler pretending to be the Divine Doctor who stole it."

Only then did Lin’s father understand what the two of them had done behind his back.

His forehead veins bulged with rage as he glared at Lin Wenxuan and his wife with disappointment.

They were more than capable of ruining plans but not of successfully conducting any!

Lin’s mother felt somewhat aggrieved; hadn’t she just wanted to catch the swindler and give him a lesson?

Since things had come to this, it was impossible for Lin’s father to say anything that would disgrace their own family.

If the government people found out that they were falsely accusing someone, he would be thoroughly chewed out, and where would that leave his reputation?

Zhou Hong scanned the three of them with a smirk that didn’t reach his eyes, "Did your residence really lose ten thousand Silver Taels?"

Under his scrutinizing gaze, the three of them struggled to meet his eyes.

Lin’s father, under the oppressive atmosphere, had no choice but to nod, "Replying to the official, indeed some silver has gone missing from my household, and it seems like it must have been stolen by that Divine Doctor."

Lin’s mother and Lin Wenxuan, each in turn, echoed his statement, their words ten times more vulgar than Lin’s father’s.

While Lin’s father retained some decorum and politeness, Lin’s mother and Lin Wenxuan were essentially engaging in a shrew’s quarrel, daring to use all kinds of foul language.

Seeing them getting more and more agitated, Zhou Hong grew annoyed and frowned.

These three troublemakers were really asking for it!

With a grand wave, he commanded, "Bring them here, take these three troublemakers away for me!"

The constables behind him promptly advanced and bound the hands of the Lin family.

The three members of the Lin Family hadn’t expected such a sudden turn of events and were all greatly shocked; Lin’s father asked while still in a daze, "Sir, what have the common folk done wrong?"

Lin Wenxuan remained relatively composed as he looked towards Zhou Hong, his voice trembling as he asked, "Sir, may I ask why you are arresting my family?"

Zhou Hong glanced at him, sneered disdainfully, and raised his hand, gesturing the constables to take them away.

When the three members of the Lin Family were brought into the government office and saw Qi Yu standing on the dais, their expressions shifted drastically.

Qi Yu silently took pleasure for a while in their disheveled, utterly embarrassed state, slightly raising her eyebrows, "No worse for wear, I see."

Lin’s mother and Lin Wenxuan glared at her with such venomous hatred, they seemed as if they wanted to tear a piece of flesh from her body.

Only Lin’s father seemed to have thought of something; he stood aside, looking haggard and panic-stricken.

Zhou Hong saw Lin Wenxuan struggling to lunge forward and kicked him, "Stay in line."

If the Princess were to be hurt under his watch, the Prince would never let him off the hook.

Lin Wenxuan’s body was incredibly frail, and with Zhou Hong exerting only a fraction of his strength, he fell to the ground, coughing incessantly.

Seeing her son in pain, Lin’s mother was so distressed she struggled to check on him.

Qi Yu slightly raised her eyebrows and said to the constable holding Lin’s mother, "Let her go."

The constable immediately released his hold and respectfully stood aside.

Lin’s father, witnessing this scene, revealed a trace of fear in his eyes.

He had guessed right; the identity of this person was no small matter.

Lin’s mother, holding Lin Wenxuan and crying incessantly, glared fiercely at Qi Yu and hissed through her teeth, "You wretched woman, you dare harm my son, I will not let you go!"

Zhou Hong frowned, about to step forward to silence Lin’s mother, but Qi Yu stopped him.

She walked up to Lin’s mother, looking down from her lofty position at the mother and son, the corners of her lips curving in disdain, she said languidly, "Madam Lin, I’m afraid your family won’t be able to leave this place."

Lin’s mother felt increasingly uneasy under her gaze, but still retorted stubbornly, "What nonsense are you spouting, you wretch? You clearly stole ten thousand taels of Gold from our residence, are you trying to deny it?"

She hadn’t yet realized that Qi Yu wasn’t caught by these officers.

She brought out a fabricated excuse, attempting to scare her opponent.

After all, only they knew whether something was really missing from the residence; the government would not be able to find out anything.

Qi Yu laughed and shook her head, genuinely praising, "I must admit, I’m somewhat impressed by your ability to lie with eyes wide open."

Lin Wenxuan had recovered somewhat; as he struggled to rise, he looked at Qi Yu’s flawless face, a glint of maliciousness and greed flickering in his eyes.

Even now, at this juncture, he hadn’t changed his lecherous ways.

Qi Yu silently scoffed; she had thought he had more integrity.

Lin Wenxuan, angered by the mockery in her eyes, clenched his fist and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "My mother has already bribed people in the government office. You’re trapped now, and if you kneel and beg me, young master, I might let you off."

Qi Yu slightly raised her eyebrows, "What if I don’t?"

Lin Wenxuan ground his teeth fiercely, and with a particularly wicked tone, he said to her word by word, "Then you’re as good as dead!"

Qi Yu laughed softly, and amidst Lin Wenxuan’s frustration, she lowered her head to fiddle with her fan, speaking casually, "So defiant even in the face of death; very well, in light of our acquaintanceship, I’ll leave you with a whole corpse."

Lin Wenxuan, provoked by her brazen words, laughed out loud, looking up and saying, "Very well, very well, I indeed want to see what more you can do."

Qi Yu’s lips curved up in a smile, but the mirth did not reach her eyes.

In an instant, her expression turned cold; her eyes fixed intently on Lin Wenxuan, she said with an icy tone, "Guards, take down this rebellious scoundrel for the Princess!"
