Chapter 208: Chapter 208: The Divine Doctor Has Disappeared
Hearing her words, Lin Wenxuan abruptly pulled himself out of his memories, lifted his head, and stared at her blankly.
Though Qi Yu had guessed correctly, there was no joy in her expression.
She sighed, not knowing whether it was for Lin Wenxuan’s story of unrequited love or for the woman with the tragic background.
Lin Wenxuan let down his guard, no longer acting like a hedgehog who lashed out at everyone, and said calmly, "You’re right, I do like her, and even thought about marrying her. However, my mother would never agree. I have always known that the person I am supposed to marry is the young Miss from the Su Family."
Qi Yu glanced at him and felt his current normalcy was somehow alienating, making him somewhat unrecognizable to her.
Lin Wenxuan, unconcerned with how she saw him, laughed at himself sarcastically and let out all the thoughts that had been suppressed in his heart, "More than a month ago, it should have been the day I married the young Miss from the Su Family. My mother must have noticed my feelings for Ruoyu and worried she might ruin the goodwill between the Lin and Su families, so she sent her away. I searched for her for a long time but still do not know where my mother sent her."
Qi Yu noticed that he referred to it as the Lin Family and the Su Family, never acknowledging the marriage arrangement himself.
After Lin Wenxuan finished speaking, he fell into a deep silence.
It had been a long time since he had spoken so openly to a stranger.
And these were things he could not discuss with his mother.
After hearing his story, Qi Yu showed no surprise; only, she had not expected that someone as despicable as Lin Wenxuan could also reveal genuine feelings.
However, she did not believe that Lin Wenxuan truly had deep feelings for Ruoyu, his childhood friend, as he tried to portray.
This was evident from his frequent stays at Manchun Building over the years.
His so-called deep-rooted love was nothing but his own wishful thinking.
Even crocodiles shed tears; Lin Wenxuan had merely idealized most of his memories to craft an image that was more satisfactory to himself.
His heart was like duckweed drifting on the water’s surface, never stopping for anyone.
The moonlight is beautiful because it is unreachable for him.
Thus, he used the misfortunate Ruoyu to fulfill what he considered his genuine love; deep inside, there might be someone like that, but it was not the real Ruoyu, merely someone he had imagined.
Ruoyu was just a maid with a fair appearance; he, a high and mighty master, how could he possibly marry a maid.
Hearing him say this, Qi Yu found it somewhat ridiculous.
Lin Wenxuan probably had not realized what a contradictory person he was.
He was impulsive, insecure, and thus never allowed himself to be submerged in emotions. He was cynical yet tried hard to display a deeply in-love appearance, probably because his strong-willed nature could not accept such a flawed and ugly version of himself.
Qi Yu kept these thoughts to herself, knowing that a person like Lin Wenxuan would not change simply based on a few words from others, regardless of how reprehensible his actions were; he could always find a logic to rationalize them.
Like the fact that his mother had driven Ruoyu away, which he discussed with such calmness that it did not seem like he had lost a loved one at all.
He blamed everything on his mother; her tyranny had led to Ruoyu’s tragedy, yet he refused to accept the fact that it was actually his own doing that had forced her out.
Qi Yu’s expression grew cooler as she said to the melancholic Lin Wenxuan, "I think the main reason Ruoyu was driven away was not because of the marriage between the Su and Lin families. Ruoyu was just a maid; what power could she possibly have to ruin your marriage?"
Her sharp words pierced through Lin Wenxuan’s pretense of deep love.
Lin Wenxuan’s pupils trembled as he retorted, "But, I did indeed talk to my mother about marrying Ruoyu."
Qi Yu saw that he was stubborn and shook her head, speaking solemnly, "At this point, do you still want to deceive yourself? No matter how overbearing your mother is, she wouldn’t be so intolerant as to not even accommodate a maid. The reason she insisted on sending Ruoyu away, I think, must be because she was pregnant, right?"
"What?" Lin Wenxuan stared at her blankly, his expression shocked, revealing a pleading look.
He was begging her not to continue.
In that way, he could live in the illusion he had created for himself.
Qi Yu coldly said, "You have already harmed two women. Their debts can only be repaid by you, Lin Wenxuan, alone."
Before Lin Wenxuan’s eyes appeared the faces of those two women; he held his head, tightly closed his eyes, and cried out in agony, "No, this has nothing to do with me, they brought it upon themselves!"
Qi Yu casually threw the tea from the teapot onto his face; the cooled tea sobered Lin Wenxuan slightly.
He sat there in a total mess, motionless, with a few scattered tea leaves clinging to his hair, his white clothes stained with tea, making him look filthy.
Just like the person he was.
Qi Yu closed her eyes, suppressed the rage in her heart, and told Lin Wenxuan, "I’m not afraid to tell you, I came for Su Guihe. If I do find something, you can say goodbye to your life."
Having said that, she walked away without turning back.
She left Lin Wenxuan alone in the room, silent for a long time.
His hands trembled as he crushed the teacup, red blood slowly flowing down his palms, a throbbing pain emanating from the wound, and following this pain, a bloodthirsty urge gradually emerged in his heart.
He stared in the direction of the door and gently laughed.
Wanting his life for a wretch?
Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.
Lin Wenxuan laughed hysterically a few times, his laughter attracted the attention of the maid and his parents. By the time they hurried to his room, Lin Wenxuan had already collapsed from acute distress, exposing a grotesquely mangled hand.
Lin’s mother, shocked by the scene, screamed in horror and fainted.
Lin’s father quickly had Lin Wenxuan and Lin’s mother carried to bed, then sent the maid to call for the Divine Doctor.
He felt throbbing pain in his chest, the pool of blood on the floor made his eyes sting.
After a while, the maid rushed in, saying to him, "Master, the Divine Doctor is missing!"
Lin’s father felt as if struck by lightning, standing motionless, turned to a statue.
Seeing him like this, neither the maids nor the servants dared to approach.
Although they did not know what had happened, they faintly sensed an impending storm.
It seemed that ever since this mysterious Divine Doctor arrived at their residence, everything had started to feel wrong.
After a long time, Lin’s father finally moved.
He held his head, whimpering in pain, causing the maids and servants to step back in fright.
Everyone watched their master in horror as he weakly let his hands fall and murmured to himself, "What a sin!"
