Chapter 169: Chapter 169: I’m Here to Collect Your Corpse

Qi Yu looked at the approaching thugs, the silver needles hidden in her right sleeve ready to be launched.

The opponents were numerous and hostile, a fight was inevitable today.

Zhou Hong stood on the other side, facing away from them, holding a broadsword in front of Gu Jingping and Shen Xiheng.

Among them, only Zhou Hong and Li Mingjue were truly skilled in martial arts.

Even adding Shiqi, Shen Nanxing, and Ling Xiao to their side, it was difficult to match the several hundred people opposite them.

The situation was indeed not optimistic.

"Kill them all, leave no one alive!" Suddenly, the leader on the opposite side shouted.

Instantly, the gang of thugs all charged at them with their knives.

Shiqi and Zhou Hong fought hard to fend them off, while Shen Xiheng also drew his soft sword to protect Gu Jingping as they retreated.

But his wounds had only just healed, and his strength was not as great as before, so even fighting desperately they were forced to retreat steadily.

Shen Nanxing stood in front of Qi Yu, fiercely kicking away the attackers.

Ling Xiao used the sword to block the attackers and kept looking back to check on Li Mingjue.

Seeing Li Mingjue and Shen Nanxing protect Qi Yu between them, he was unarmed, but could use his inner strength to fend off the ferocious bandits.

Her brow furrowed, she felt Qi Yu was really a burden.

While she was lost in thought, she didn’t notice a sword slashing towards her.

It was Qi Yu who saw it and even shouted to her, "Watch out!"

Ling Xiao snapped back to reality, the blade glowing coldly was only inches away from her face.

She hurriedly dodged to the side, but was still a step too slow; a gash was carved on her right shoulder, tearing the flesh gruesomely, and blood also gushed out.

Ling Xiao, in pain, took a deep breath, still holding the sword in her left hand to block the incessant attacks.

Seeing her struggling to hold up, Qi Yu felt it was a bad sign.

If Ling Xiao fell, they truly would be doomed.

She quickly pulled Ling Xiao over, stood in front of her, and used the silver needles to stab at those trying to sneak attack.

"Ah—"

The strike was at a fatal acupoint, a deadly move.

Soon, the bandits screamed in pain and fell down one by one.

Ling Xiao’s eyes widened in shock, holding her right arm, she could hardly believe what she saw Qi Yu doing.

In the fierce battle of the few of them, soon, the group of bandits had fallen by more than half.

The remaining ones, not expecting their martial arts to be so strong, looked scared and were already thinking of retreating.

They themselves were not skilled in martial arts and only relied on sheer numbers to try their luck.

But now, seeing one of their brothers get killed, their earlier confidence was utterly shattered, and they fought more and more retreatingly, their faces ashen.

Seeing this, the leader in black cursed silently.

His eyes slightly squinting, sword in hand, he leapt, wanting to thrust at Qi Yu.

But before his sword could strike, it was blocked by a flying horizontal sword from nowhere.

The force was so powerful, and the blade so sharp, that it actually broke his sword in two.

The man in black’s pupils shrank, staring at the broken sword in his hand, then suddenly looked up, only to meet a pair of clear, piercing eyes.

The person was Shi Zhou, who had just disembarked and was rushing toward Gusu City.

Along the way, seeing that every household had closed its doors and the streets lacked their usual hustle and bustle, she was greatly surprised.

The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was amiss.

She continued walking with the sword for a distance, then suddenly heard the sound of clashing weapons, her eyes grew cold, and she soared onto the rooftops, stepping on ceramic tiles, approaching like a gliding butterfly.

She saw from afar that a crowd of people was besieging a few familiar individuals.

Shi Zhou’s eyes flickered slightly. Before arriving, she had already thrown the Qiyun Sword, blocking the attack of the man in black.

"Who goes there?" the man in black asked in frustration, "Why do you spoil my plans?"

He was moments away from claiming that person’s life.

Shi Zhou, holding her sword, raised a cold eyebrow and said indifferently, "I am here to collect your corpse."

"How dare you!" the man in black snorted coldly, sizing her up dismissively, "Just you?"

Shi Zhou smirked coldly, tossed her sword upward, grabbed the hilt, and thrust straight at him, "Less talk, face my sword!"

The man in black tossed away his broken sword, slightly leaned back, curled his toes, and leapt backward, dodging her fierce Sword Qi.

In the camp, Shi Fuyou wouldn’t allow her to engage with others, so Shi Zhou’s usual practice with the sword was quite lonely.

Having finally encountered a worthy opponent today, a hint of a smile appeared in her eyes. She was ready to thoroughly challenge him with several moves.

The two fought for several rounds, back and forth, captivating the attention of onlookers who unconsciously stopped their actions and watched their duel without missing a beat.

Qi Yu was astonished and said to Li Mingjue, "Miss Shi’s swordsmanship is truly remarkable."

Li Mingjue, still distressed by the narrow escape from the swordsman earlier, merely glanced over upon hearing this.

He grabbed her arm, pulled her back, and said coldly, "Why are you standing so far forward? Who asked you to fight?"

Knowing she was at fault, Qi Yu could only agree pleasantly, "The Prince is right."

She didn’t sell out Ling Xiao.

If it hadn’t been to protect Ling Xiao’s life, she wouldn’t have risked her own.

But Ling Xiao had already forgotten that moment, her injured arm still throbbing with pain, yet more painful still was her heart.

While others were watching Shi Zhou and the man in black fight, her gaze was fixed solely on Li Mingjue.

Shiqi had long noticed something was amiss with her, and seeing that she made no attempt to hide it, his eyes darkened and his grip on his sword tightened.

As a Hidden Guard, it was Ling Xiao’s primary duty to protect the Princess.

Just now, he had seen clearly, Ling Xiao was distracted. If not for the Princess’s prompt reminder, it wouldn’t have been merely an arm injury she suffered.

It was even the Princess shielding her that ultimately saved her life.

If Ling Xiao had shown gratitude, it would have been one thing, but she hadn’t thanked the Princess from the start to the end, all the while continuing to covet the Prince.

It was utterly reckless!

Shiqi sneered inwardly. When he returned, he would report to the Prince and make sure Ling Xiao could no longer stay by the Princess’s side.

Not far away, Shi Zhou and the man in black had fought a hundred more rounds. Both were evenly matched, inciting a fierce struggle that was hard to break.

But she still had a sword in hand and was much quicker.

Soon, the man in black began to falter.

Sweat broke out on his forehead, and he felt increasingly unsure.

Shi Zhou noticed his moves were becoming disordered and was about to strike, when she saw the man in black pull something out of his bosom.

She frowned, instinctively dodging.

It was a smoke bomb. The smoke obscured her vision.

By the time the smoke cleared, the man in black had vanished.

Shi Zhou pursed her lips, not quite satisfied as she sheathed her sword.

Seeing their leader escape, the bandits were somewhat at a loss.

Just as they were unsure what to do, they were captured by the constables led by Gu Jingping.

Shi Zhou returned with her sword, ignoring the chaos around her, and went straight to the pale-faced Shen Xiheng, saying in a relieved tone, "Lord Shen, I’ve come for you."
