Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Do you still remember who poisoned you?

The people in the tavern were stunned by the sudden turn of events; everyone scrambled to get out of the way. The innkeeper, a tough character, shouted sternly, "No one is allowed to leave!"

Qi Yu frowned, wanting to go over and take a look.

It wasn’t to join the crowd in excitement, but because of the man lying unconscious on the ground.

This symptom was almost certainly the result of poisoning.

If he didn’t receive treatment soon, within a quarter of an hour, he would be dead.

Li Mingjue stood protectively by her side, pushing people away to clear a path.

Shen Xiheng and Zhou Hong exchanged glances before following them.

The innkeeper frowned upon seeing the newcomers but reminded himself that the customer is always right, and bowed, saying, "I apologize, but I’d suggest you go elsewhere for now."

Qi Yu glanced up at him and said coldly, "This man is about to die, and you don’t plan to save him?"

The innkeeper sneered, "Why should I save him? I run a tavern, not a pharmacy. Besides, he hasn’t paid his bill; why should I waste my own money to save him?"

His words were incredibly cold-hearted, causing many to shake their heads in disapproval, resolving to avoid this tavern in the future.

Qi Yu took out her purse, picked out a piece of silver, and tossed it at him, "Is this enough?"

It hit the innkeeper squarely in the face, but he didn’t get angry. After pocketing the money, he smiled amiably, "Of course, my lord. Please proceed."

Qi Yu ignored him and knelt down, extending a finger to check the man’s breathing.

His breath was weak, but he was still alive.

She breathed a sigh of relief and pulled a few silver needles out of her sleeve, inserting them into the man’s scalp.

After a while, the man woke up groggily.

Seeing the shocked faces of the crowd around him, he was a bit confused.

After the other patrons discussed what had happened, he finally understood the events that had transpired.

"Where is my savior?" The man looked around but did not see the one who had saved him.

Now that he had been paid, the innkeeper was more amiable to the man. He pointed ahead and said, "That young gentleman in black."

Having thanked him, the man hurried after them.

"My lord, please wait!" The man, gasping for breath, caught up with Qi Yu and stopped her.

Seeing that it was him, Qi Yu raised an eyebrow, "What advice does the gentleman have for me?"

"My name is Gu Jingping. I owe you my life for your timely rescue, and I’ve come to express my gratitude." Gu Jingping was momentarily startled to see a young and handsome lord.

He hadn’t expected his savior to be so young.

Qi Yu nodded slightly, looking at him with approval.

At least he knew to return a favor; it wasn’t a waste of the few silver pieces she’d spent.

Seeing her about to depart, Gu Jingping hurriedly followed, "Where is the lord heading?"

Qi Yu replied patiently, "We’ve come from the capital and are looking for a tavern to stay in."

Upon hearing this, Gu Jingping’s face brightened, "May I accompany the lord there?"

Qi Yu looked at him doubtfully.

This Master Gu wasn’t bad looking, with elegant features and dressed in white, resembling a scholar. However, it seemed his thinking was somewhat unsound.

Shen Xiheng, on the other hand, chuckled to himself, suspecting that Master Gu had taken a fancy to Qi Yu.

Li Mingjue stepped in front of Qi Yu, his expression blank as he refused coldly, "There’s no need."

With that, he pulled Qi Yu along and walked ahead.

Zhou Hong hastily followed while Shen Xiheng lingered a few steps behind, snapped open his folding fan, and smiled at the Master Gu who still had his longing gaze fixed on Qi Yu, "Does the master live here?"

Gu Jingping instinctively nodded, then shook his head, "I don’t live in Ping’an Town. I came from Gusu, intending to spend a few days sightseeing before returning, but I didn’t expect such an incident to happen."

Shen Xiheng felt intrigued; what a coincidence.

He asked a few more questions with a poker face, and Gu Jingping answered them all earnestly, one by one.

Seeing that he wasn’t a bad person, Shen Xiheng decided to take him along.

Qi Yu and Li Mingjue found a place called Yingchun Building that was elegant and reasonably priced, so they decided to stay there.

However, when it came to booking a room, the two disagreed again.

In Li Mingjue’s opinion, they should naturally share a room.

But Qi Yu did not agree and whispered while tugging at his sleeve, "I’m disguised as a man now, so it’s not proper for me to share a room with you."

Otherwise, who knew how others would look at them with strange eyes.

Li Mingjue frowned, he hadn’t thought about this before.

While he was still thinking, Qi Yu hurriedly booked four good rooms.

She also ordered a table full of dishes and took a seat in the private room on the second floor.

Gu Jingping also booked his room and shamelessly followed behind them to freeload food and drinks.

Qi Yu didn’t mind, but Li Mingjue cast a faint glance at Shen Xiheng.

Shen Xiheng lifted his rice bowl to cover his face.

No one talked much during the meal, each just focused on eating.

Qi Yu was too tired to speak, and Li Mingjue was naturally reticent.

Shen Xiheng had a guilty conscience, afraid of becoming a target, so he kept silent as well.

Zhou Hong wasn’t a talkative person either; without instructions, he wouldn’t utter half a word on usual days.

This time, it was even quieter than ever.

For Gu Jingping, the meal was terribly uncomfortable.

He was a chatterbox, used to having people around to joke with him at home, but in front of these few, he dared not to act rashly and could only bury his head in his food.

Fortunately, after the meal, Qi Yu took the initiative to ask, "Mr. Gu, do you remember who poisoned you?"

After thinking for a moment, Gu Jingping replied, "I had just taken a bite when I collapsed. I didn’t have time to see who had poisoned me."

Thinking back on the incident, he still felt a chill of fear.

Thankfully he had encountered these people today; otherwise, he feared he would have lost his life.

Shen Xiheng interjected, "Why would someone want to harm Brother Gu?"

Gu Jingping was also puzzled, "Indeed, I’ve just arrived at Ping’an Town, how could I already have enemies?"

The two of them looked at each other, both at a loss for a reason.

Qi Yu was too impatient to deal with these two fools. Couldn’t the poisoner be someone who had followed Gu Jingping all the way from Gusu, rather than someone from Ping’an Town?

However, why would this person keep following Gu Jingping?

Qi Yu shared her thoughts, and after a moment of silence, Gu Jingping responded, "Without concealing it from everyone, my father is the Prefect of Suzhou, and I don’t know which important figure he has offended recently. There are assassins sent to our house every other day."

Upon hearing this, everyone was stunned for a moment.

Zhou Hong asked, "Are you the son of Gu Wenzi?"

Gu Jingping nodded and then asked, "How do you know my father’s name?"

Zhou Hong fell silent, glanced at Li Mingjue, and the two of them had faces as inscrutable as the Sphinx, not answering his question.

Shen Xiheng changed the subject, "Brother Gu, since this person has followed you here, he probably has other plans, you must be careful."

Indeed led astray by his words, Gu Jingping earnestly replied, "Brother Shen is right, I will definitely be careful."

After a few more pleasantries, they each returned to their rooms.

Qi Yu felt that Li Mingjue was clearly hiding something from her and, thinking about what Gu Jingping had just said, she felt somewhat uneasy.

Just as she was considering whether to ask Li Mingjue about it, someone knocked on the door from outside.
