Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 993: Refusing to Disclose

Chapter 993: Chapter 993: Refusing to Disclose

Gu Fan hurried to the small wooden hut, only to find Jin Yi lying on the bed as soon as he entered. Jin Yi was still in a coma, riddled with wounds that made one’s heart ache.

Lu Bei was sitting beside him, silent and with a look of hatred in his eyes, seemingly annoyed at how heavy the other party’s hand had been.

Seeing Jin Yi’s condition made it clear there was no danger to his life, Gu Fan also heaved a sigh of relief and approached to ask, "How is Jin Yi? He should be alright, shouldn’t he?"

Lu Bei coldly said, "He’s just sustained some injuries. It’s normal for people in Martial Arts to get hurt. It’s nothing serious."

"That’s good, as long as he’s alright," Gu Fan said, not knowing what else to say to comfort him. After a moment’s thought, he added, "Victory and defeat are common in battle; don’t take it to heart. Besides, a gentleman’s revenge can wait ten years. Once Jin Yi’s injuries heal, he can train harder and reclaim today’s loss with interest."

Lu Bei’s response was indifferent, as if Gu Fan’s presence and words didn’t matter at all, making the atmosphere somewhat awkward, as Gu Fan did not know how to continue the conversation.

With no other choice, Gu Fan steeled himself to broach the topic, "I heard that Jin Yi is the heir of Jian Shen, and you are a friend of Jian Shen."

Upon hearing this, Lu Bei frowned, showing some reaction at last, and glanced at Gu Fan with wariness, "I remember you previously said that you had a score to settle with Jian Shen. You’re not here to take this opportunity to strike at people related to Jian Shen, are you?"

"How could that be? Do I look like that kind of person?" Gu Fan quickly explained, but Lu Bei shook his head, "Why aren’t you? You said it yourself, is there any falsehood in that?"

Gu Fan gave an awkward smile, "I always make a clear distinction between gratitude and grudges. I would never take revenge on innocent people for issues I have with others. So please rest assured, I might even go as far as to protect you."

This left Lu Bei somewhat puzzled, "Then may I ask what you are here for? To visit, or to inquire about the whereabouts of Jian Shen?"

Gu Fan nodded, "Yes, besides visiting, I am also here to find out Jian Shen’s current whereabouts."

Regarding this, Lu Bei shook his head, "I’m sorry, but Jian Shen now only wants to live a life free from worldly disputes. He doesn’t wish for anyone to disturb his current life, so I can’t tell you. Also, for your own good, if you’re really looking to trouble Jian Shen, with your poor martial arts, you would be bringing disgrace upon yourself."

"What if I don’t want to fight Jian Shen but wish to become his disciple?" Gu Fan’s words caught Lu Bei off guard, making him wonder, "Brother Gu, you say one moment that you have enmity with Jian Shen and want to settle accounts with him, and the next you say you want to become his disciple. I really don’t have the mood for jokes right now."

Gu Fan knew Lu Bei was irritated and also knew Lu Bei wouldn’t easily divulge Jian Shen’s whereabouts, so Gu Fan changed the question, "Alright, I won’t bother you further, but just one last question, please answer truthfully, Brother Lu."

"Oh!" Lu Bei suddenly had a feeling that Gu Fan’s eagerness to learn about Jian Shen’s location was neither for revenge nor for discipleship.

Gu Fan composed himself, then asked, "I want to know if Jian Shen is currently with Qian Ye."

This question surprised Lu Bei so much that he couldn’t help but ask back, "What do you need this information for?"

"Actually, I have no enmity with Jian Shen; my grudge is with Qian Ye. I heard that Qian Ye has been seen with Jian Shen, so I thought if I knew Jian Shen’s location, I would also know Qian Ye’s whereabouts," Gu Fan fabricated, unsure of what else to say.

"So, you’re after Qian Ye," Lu Bei realized. He knew Qian Ye was once the enchantress of Shennv Xuanhui, having offended many, so it wasn’t unreasonable for Gu Fan to be seeking Qian Ye for payback. But something about Gu Fan still prevented Lu Bei from trusting him.

Lu Bei took a good look at Gu Fan, then sighed and shook his head, "I’m sorry, whether you have a grudge with Jian Shen or Qian Ye, I cannot tell you their whereabouts. Please understand."

"Brother Lu, I really have no ill intentions, I just want to find them, to clear some things up," Gu Fan tried to explain further, but Lu Bei was already showing impatience, "Brother Gu, may I ask who are you really, and what is your true purpose in seeking Jian Shen and Qian Ye? Have you really told me everything?"

"My identity? I’m just an ordinary person in Martial Arts," Gu Fan replied, not understanding why Lu Bei was asking this but having a bad feeling about it.

"Since Brother Gu is so insincere, you’d better leave," Lu Bei now displayed the expression of seeing someone out, making the atmosphere even more awkward.

Gu Fan continued to defend himself, "Brother Lu, I don’t know how you see me, but I really am just an ordinary person in Martial Arts."

Lu Bei looked utterly unconvinced, which made Gu Fan anxious, not knowing where he had gone wrong that made the other person so resistant.

Suddenly, a voice full of amusement came from the doorway, "Alright, Gu Fan, there’s no point in pretending; they’ve known you’re part of the Devil Cult for quite a while."

"What?" Gu Fan turned in surprise and saw Mo Yun leaning against the door frame, arms folded, her lips curled in a smile, enjoying the situation.

Lu Bei snorted, "Mo Yun, have you finally admitted your identity?"

Mo Yun nodded, "That’s right, both Gu Fan and I are what’s left of the Devil Cult. We’ve come to the Martial Arts Competition to seize the position of Martial Arts Leader and revive the Devil Cult. Are you satisfied with that answer?"

"So, you two know each other, huh?" Gu Fan suddenly felt embarrassed; his previous cover had turned into a joke in the eyes of others.

Lu Bei’s face remained impassive, "Know each other? Jian Shen, Qian Ye, and I fought a great battle against the Devil Cult. Jian Shen’s master was harmed by the Devil Cult."

Gu Fan immediately replied from a different angle, "That means it’s not me who has a grudge with Jian Shen, but Jian Shen has a vendetta against our Devil Cult. So theoretically, it shouldn’t be me looking for Jian Shen; rather, Jian Shen should come to find me."

As Gu Fan mumbled to himself, both Mo Yun and Lu Bei were mystified, wondering what on earth he was thinking.

Mo Yun added, "Gu Fan was recruited into the Devil Cult by me after that decisive battle; everything the Devil Cult did before then has nothing to do with him."

Lu Bei remained unyielding, "I don’t care about that. Since Gu Fan follows you, and you are the remnants of the Devil Cult, I can’t be blamed for treating you with this attitude."

Mo Yun didn’t take it to heart; she had only one goal, "I came here to find out what exactly happened in that great battle between good and evil. Jian Shen is the only survivor. He must have told you everything, right?"

Lu Bei glanced at her, considering her eager expression, thought for a moment, then shook his head, "I’m sorry, the events of that day... Jian Shen has instructed that they should not be spoken of lightly."
