Chapter 991: Supreme in Both Sword and Blade
Chapter 991: Chapter 991: Supreme in Both Sword and Blade
The fifth round of the Martial Arts Competition began. Under the watchful eyes of thousands, the leader of the Xuanjian Sect and Jin Yi stepped onto the platform, their steps slightly heavy, as if both were bearing tremendous pressure.
Before the battle even started, neither could afford to lose in terms of momentum. The leader of the Xuanjian Sect and Jin Yi faced off thirty paces apart, their gazes locked on each other, everything around them seemingly irrelevant; they only had eyes for their opponent.
Time ticked by slowly, and their expressions did not change in the least. That focused look was as if they could spot any minute change in their adversary, revealing a flaw.
When experts cross swords, victory and defeat is often determined by a hair’s breadth. The audience could feel an invisible tension filling the air, causing their hearts to beat nervously. Everyone watched the two on the stage without daring to blink, afraid of missing a thrilling moment.
After a long while, the leader of the Xuanjian Sect broke the silence, "You are called Jin Yi, a member of the Jin Yuedao family?"
"That’s right," Jin Yi nodded, not denying it.
The audience couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise; they hadn’t expected anyone from the extinguished Jin Yuedao family to still be alive—such a pity for a once-prominent Martial Arts family.
The leader of the Xuanjian Sect added, "Judging by your Martial Arts, you’re not using the Jin Yuedao family’s techniques, but the swordsmanship of our Xuanjian Sect. Lu Bei and Jian Shen were expelled from Xuanjian Sect. Given your close association with Lu Bei, you must be Jian Shen’s disciple."
Hearing this, everyone was shocked; they had not imagined that Jin Yi would be a successor of Jian Shen.
However, Lu Bei was not happy, "What do you mean? Jian Shen and I are both from Xuanjian Sect. If Jin Yi knows Xuanjian Sect’s Martial Arts and has been working with me, why can’t Jin Yi be my disciple?"
People nearby glanced at Lu Bei, then shook their heads and sighed; Lu Bei did not look like someone capable of mentoring a good disciple.
"Where is Jian Shen?" the Xuanjian Sect’s leader’s tone was much softer, seemingly wary of this formidable opponent.
Jin Yi shook his head, "My master has no desire to seize the position of the Martial Arts Federation’s leader, so he sent me instead."
"The master doesn’t covet the throne of the Martial Arts Federation leader, so he lets his disciple fight for it. What does that mean? Is he looking down on us?" The leader of Xuanjian Sect seemed annoyed, feeling underestimated.
Jin Yi explained it this way, "Because the Western vampires have not yet been exterminated, my master hopes that I can become the leader of the Martial Arts Federation and once again lead the warriors of the Martial Arts to confront the Western vampires."
At the mention of Western vampires, everyone gasped in horror; they were once a threat that nearly destroyed the entire Martial Arts community.
Yet, the leader of Xuanjian Sect was even less pleased, "What do you mean by letting a young man like you become the leader of the Martial Arts Federation to lead us? Does Jian Shen think there’s no one left in the Martial Arts?"
Upon hearing this, the Martial Arts community present was provoked, starting to feel that Jian Shen’s action was somewhat indiscreet.
But Jin Yi remained calm and composed, "I’d like to ask this, when my master Jian Shen and the previous leader of the Martial Arts Federation led various sects to eliminate evils, defending the Martial Arts at almost the cost of total annihilation, where were you, Xuanjian Sect’s leader, and why didn’t you come?"
"I was delayed by something at the time, so I arrived late," the Xuanjian Sect’s leader explained, but Jin Yi looked incredulous, "You didn’t just arrive late; you never showed up at all. How can someone who only wants to preserve their own strength and does not care about the safety of the Martial Arts be fit to be the Martial Arts Federation leader, how can you lead everyone to confront the remaining Western vampires?"
This statement resonated with those in attendance, who nodded in agreement, believing that Jin Yi made a lot of sense.
The leader of Xuanjian Sect’s face darkened, "Words are useless, let’s see the real deal with our swords." With that, the leader of Xuanjian Sect had already drawn his treasure sword, and the fierce Jian Qi was released in an instant, startling those who were close to hastily retreat and give way.
Jin Yi was not to be outdone; he too drew his treasure sword, his equally sharp Jian Qi confronting the other’s.
The moment arrived, under everyone’s gaze, the leader of Xuanjian Sect and Jin Yi both pushed off the ground and bravely charged towards each other, their long swords swinging.
On the first strike, they clashed head-on, their treasure swords collided violently, sparks flying, Jian Qi bursting forth and sending ripples all around.
"In terms of power, you think you can win against me?" the leader of Xuanjian Sect roared, suddenly escalating the attack and sending Jin Yi flying out directly.
"Impressive, truly worthy of being the head of Xuanjian Sect," Jin Yi had just steadied himself when he saw the leader of Xuanjian Sect attacking again, his swordsmanship fierce, his power strong, and his murderous look significant, showing no signs of holding back.
Knowing he couldn’t withstand it head-on anymore, Jin Yi switched entirely to a defensive strategy, swinging his treasure sword, creating waves of sword light, and forming a network of swords that protected himself within.
"Is that useful?" The leader of Xuanjian Sect sneered again and again, his swordsmanship growing fiercer by the moment, delivering over a dozen strikes in one breath, forcefully breaking through Jin Yi’s sword net, with the Jian Qi emitted sending Jin Yi flying once again.
There was a clear gap in strength between the two, which was evident to all, but knowing Jin Yi was the disciple of Jian Shen, the crowd started to cheer him on enthusiastically.
Jin Yi retreated five steps, not yet steady, when he saw the leader of Xuanjian Sect coming at him again, fierce as ever. With no alternative, Jin Yi raised his treasure sword with both hands to block hard.
"Let me see how much your master has taught you," the leader of Xuanjian Sect struck down with his sword, with a force of a thousand pounds, pinning Jin Yi so he couldn’t move; he struggled to raise his treasure sword with both hands while standing his ground with all his might.
Seizing the opportunity, the leader of Xuanjian Sect delivered another heavy palm strike on Jin Yi’s body, sending him flying away.
After taking this hit, Jin Yi was wounded and vomited blood, crashing onto the ground, and many couldn’t bear to watch any further.
The leader of Xuanjian Sect did not pursue but confidently said, "Get up, I know you’re not that easy to fall. If that’s all you’ve got, Jian Shen wouldn’t have let you join the Martial Arts Competition."
Hearing this, Lu Bei below the stage smiled slightly, and amidst the astonished eyes of the crowd, Jin Yi also got back up again, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with an indifferent expression.
"Sorry, I was planning to keep it for the end, but I have no choice, you are just too strong, leader of Xuanjian Sect." Having said that, Jin Yi smiled faintly and then gave Lu Bei in the audience a knowing look.
Lu Bei understood, directly tossing the treasure sword in his hand onto the stage.
The moment Jin Yi received the treasure sword, he couldn’t help but laugh; holding the sword in one hand and the blade in the other, his gaze grew even more determined, and then he said, "Sorry, but I’m from the Jin Yuedao family. I haven’t forgotten the swordsmanship passed down in my family."
After seeing this, everyone gasped in awe; the swordsmanship of the Jin Yuedao family, together with the swordsmanship of the Xuanjian Sect, in one person – how strong this combination might be was truly something to look forward to.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan was resting elsewhere when someone came running to call everyone to watch the Martial Arts Competition, "Hurry, this one is incredible. Turns out Jin Yi is the disciple of Jian Shen, he came specially to challenge the leader of Xuanjian Sect."
