Chapter 947: Merciless Slaughter
Chapter 947: Chapter 947: Merciless Slaughter
Lord Xiong, Mo Yun, and Gu Fan entered the village together, only to find a scene littered with corpses. The villagers’ faces were frozen in expressions of terror, and many of them were children.
The Xue Clan were still ferociously gnawing at the villagers’ necks. To this, Lord Xiong and Mo Yun had become desensitized, showing little reaction, while Gu Fan couldn’t bear it, and even refrained from looking. It was simply too cruel.
"What’s wrong, you seem quite softhearted," Xue Wang said, approaching and observing Gu Fan’s unusual pallor.
Gu Fan managed a slight smile, "I suppose I am, a little. But no matter, as long as you’re happy."
Xue Wang’s gaze narrowed as he began to probe with words, "Your Devil Cult has been cooperating with us, the Xue Clan, for some time now. I believe you’ve seen scenes like this before."
At that moment, Gu Fan realized Xue Wang’s probing and knew he could be in trouble if he didn’t answer well.
Mo Yun jumped in to help, "Yes, your Xue Clan often asks our Devil Cult to capture people for you to feed on and martial artists to experiment on, but it turns out that the constitution of Easterners doesn’t fully adapt to the Xue Clan. The likelihood of Easterners transforming into the Xue Clan is very low."
"Exactly, the constitution of your Eastern people is different from that of the West. We’ve conducted similar experiments and found that Easterners are not suitable to become Xue Clan," Xue Wang agreed with the statement, but then he turned his attention back to Gu Fan and asked, "Kid, have you ever thought about becoming Xue Clan?"
Gu Fan was taken aback, realizing this was another test, and so he replied, "I too desire immortality, but I’ve seen many Easterners drink the blood of the Xue Clan and fail to transform, instead dying violently. That made me hesitate. However, now I know you’re seeking true immortality, and I think..."
"I understand!" Xue Wang nodded, sparing Gu Fan, but still regarded him with doubt and suspicion.
Seeing Xue Wang leave, Lord Xiong came to Gu Fan’s side and kindly warned, "Since you’ve chosen to join, don’t question our decisions. Xue Wang is mistrustful; it’s best you avoid provoking him."
"Thank you for the reminder, Lord Xiong." Gu Fan was grateful for Mo Yun’s interjection just now, and Lord Xiong’s concern.
For Gu Fan, saving the village with a single blow was impossible; he would only put himself in danger. Gu Fan knew what he could do was to keep a close eye on these Xue Clan members, to find a way to eliminate them, and he silently vowed never to let the method of eternal life fall into their hands.
Xue Wang and his group had come to the Central Plains in search of the Eternal Life Clan. However, according to Gu Fan’s knowledge, the Eternal Life Clan had already vanished, wiped out entirely by the boss, and the secrets to immortality were also destroyed by him. This meant that there was nothing left related to immortality from the Eternal Life Clan, making Xue Wang’s trip in vain.
"You’ll never succeed," Gu Fan secretly rejoiced while also noticing that Lord Xiong’s eyes were filled with worry, as if troubled by something.
At that time, the Xue Clan finished their meal looking pleased and satisfied, leaving the village in complete disarray.
Gu Fan kindly suggested, "Alright, bury these people and clean this up. Don’t let anyone discover us and expose our tracks."
"Sure, you’ll take care of this," several Xue Clan members said with a malevolent smile. Gu Fan appeared nonchalant: "Sure, I’m more than willing to serve the Xue Clan, but my ability alone is limited. I can’t bury all these villagers in a short time."
"Alright, you guys handle it," Xue Wang said indifferently.
"Yes, Xue Wang," the Xue Clan members obediently went to work.
Gu Fan furrowed his brow, starting to think hard and intently.
Xue Wang stared at Gu Fan and asked, "Kid, what are you really thinking about?"
"I’m not questioning your actions, but I think there’s a better way. We don’t need to resort to slaughtering villages—it still risks discovery," Gu Fan’s words piqued the interest of both Xue Wang and Lord Xiong, who gestured for him to continue.
Gu Fan cleared his throat, "First, we must determine the direction of our advance. As we set our target, we’ll devise a traveling strategy. I’ll scout ahead to find caves or abandoned houses to provide shelter during the day, then use them as waypoints to ensure your smooth progress."
Upon hearing this, Xue Wang was very pleased, "I knew bringing you two into our fold would be useful. Please don’t disappoint us."
"Rest assured, I can set out now if you trust me," Gu Fan’s suggestion was promptly denied as Xue Wang shook his head, "No need. We can travel from this village over the night and certainly reach the next city by morning. We won’t trouble you this time. Save your method for the next."
"Alright, I’ll do as you say," Gu Fan said lightly, though his heart pounded. He could still sense the distrust in Xue Wang’s eyes.
Suddenly, a cry caught everyone’s attention—a child had survived and was brought forward by one of the Xue Clan members, who then asked, "Xue Wang, there’s one more. I won’t stand on ceremony." About to bite into the child, he was stopped by Xue Wang, "Hold on, I have another plan."
"What?" Gu Fan’s heart skipped a beat with a foreboding sense, and then he saw Xue Wang turn his gaze toward him.
"You’ve got to be kidding!" Gu Fan guessed what Xue Wang was intending, as the latter tossed the child in front of him and remarked lightly, "I’ve read the reports and heard about your Devil Cult’s reputation; you’re all desperate outlaws, extremely vicious people. I assume you won’t have any trouble proceeding."
Facing Xue Wang’s test, Gu Fan’s heart tightened. To act was impossible for him, not to act would mean the end for both him and the child.
But in terms of demeanor, Gu Fan couldn’t show any weakness. He looked at the trembling child indifferently and then said, "Since joining the Devil Cult, I have indeed killed a few people, hands stained with blood, but it was always in mutual combat. I have never laid hands on a child. Though we in the Devil Cult may be fierce, we haven’t lost all humanity."
"After so much talk, you’re not willing to act, are you?" Xue Wang started to question Gu Fan’s commitment to join them, his eyes hinting at a trace of sinister intent.
"I..." Gu Fan gritted his teeth, now only able to take a gamble, just like he’d turned dangers around before.
However, Xue Wang already showed intent to kill, and the other Xue Clan members, perceiving his intent, were ready to strike, waiting for his command.
