Chapter 903: 903

This day, Gu Fan was exhilarated because he had received a message from David: the progress of the space-time door was looking very promising, everything was ready to go, they were just waiting for the energy key.

"Oh my goodness," Gu Fan’s heart sank, because back when Qian Ye had sabotaged the door at the underground research base, causing utter chaos, both he and Su Hui hadn’t found the energy key, which was subsequently mostly cleared out by Organization X.

Gu Fan had reviewed the surveillance footage. After destroying the space-time door, Qian Ye didn’t linger or look for anything, which meant the energy key was definitely not in Qian Ye’s possession—it had to be with Organization X.

Whenever he thought of Organization X, Helen came to mind, and so, in the dead of night, he knocked on the young girl’s door.

Helen opened the door, her face full of confusion as she looked at the sheepishly grinning Gu Fan, sensing the slyness in his smile—an ill-intentioned visit from a weasel paying a New Year’s call.

"What’s up? Is there anything you need?" Helen said, scrutinizing Gu Fan with a suspicious gaze.

Gu Fan continued to smile: "Nothing much, I just wanted to see if my dear roommate needed any help with anything. We’re all living under the same roof, I think it’s necessary to help each other out, right?"

Helen nodded, "Yes, we should help each other out. Thanks for the thought, I appreciate it, but I can take care of my own trouble."

"No, no, as roommates, your trouble is my trouble. I’m very happy to help you solve your issues," Gu Fan’s smile turned increasingly insincere, alerting Helen, who found an excuse, "Alright, it’s getting late. I don’t like staying up, let’s talk tomorrow." Saying that, she started to close the door.

Gu Fan, quick on his feet, immediately jammed the door, "Oh yes, as roommates, may I ask for a favor from you?"

"I knew it, you definitely wanted something from me. Out with it," Helen poised herself to finally see what kind of scheme Gu Fan was up to.

"I’ve recently lost an item, it’s of no value to you guys, but it means a lot to me. I wonder if you could return it to me." Saying this, Gu Fan took out a photo and handed it to Helen.

Helen saw a unique-looking key in the photo, frowned, and responded to Gu Fan, "I’ve seen this key before, in our Organization X’s research. What is it? Why do you care so much?"

"That, well, I accidentally left it in the underground lab. It’s a keepsake a friend gave me..." After speaking, Gu Fan looked at her with hopeful eyes, as if pinning all his hopes on Helen.

Helen sighed softly, "Oh, is that so? No problem. I’ve made a call, asking for the key to be delivered here day and night. I wonder if you’re satisfied with this arrangement."

"That’s wonderful, Helen, this is the most touching thing you’ve done since you moved in," Gu Fan said excitedly, nearly giving Helen a hug.

"Okay, I agreed to help you, can you now let me go to sleep early?" Helen smiled slightly, slowly closing the door while Gu Fan waved at her from the doorway, adding, "Goodnight, have sweet dreams."

The moment the door closed, Gu Fan’s expression darkened. He was worried about something—why had Helen agreed so readily? Was this all a bit too smooth?

The next evening, Gu Fan, Su Hui, Gu Ling, and Helen had just finished dinner when Qiao Ya arrived, bringing over the energy key. He had some complaints—couldn’t someone else do this express delivery? Helen had specifically requested him, after all.

Upon receiving the energy key, Gu Fan was overjoyed and enthusiastically invited Qiao Ya to join them for dinner. However, Qiao Ya felt it was inappropriate and declined, though he found it strange how Helen could live so openly at Gu Fan’s place, acting as if it was also her own home.

Having obtained the key, Gu Fan was so overjoyed that he forgot to eat; Helen also shared in his joy, "How about it, I’m a competent and good roommate, right? Whatever you need, I can have someone bring it straight to you."

"Thank you. If it weren’t for Lin Xi, I’d definitely pursue you," Gu Fan joked, and Helen didn’t take him seriously, but she teased back, "You pursuing me? Forget about it. Even if you didn’t have Lin Xi, I definitely wouldn’t be your first choice, it would be..." she trailed off, glancing briefly at Su Hui.

Su Hui, with strong mental composure, didn’t make a big deal out of it and focused on her dinner.

Well, what came next was much simpler. All Gu Fan had to do was give the energy key to David, and once David activated the space-time door, they could bring back Lin Xi.

But the real challenge was what to do afterwards—how to send Qian Ye back. Gu Fan pondered for a while.

Helen had been stealthily observing Gu Fan and noticed that after he got the energy key, he was excited only for a while, and then he went back to joking and messing around with Gu Ling and Su Hui as if nothing had changed from the days before.

Late at night, once Helen returned to her own room, Gu Fan and Su Hui headed to the balcony to discuss what to do next. They now had the energy key, but if they let their guard down, they feared they might suffer a terrible loss.

"What should we do? We’re in a very passive position," Su Hui worried, while Gu Fan’s face was stern, showing none of the excitement he had before obtaining the energy key.

"If I were her, what would I do?" Gu Fan frowned deeply, trying to put himself in the other person’s shoes.

Su Hui had a suggestion, "How about we stand pat? Things might not be as bad as we think."

"No, we have to act quickly. I need to see her hand," and with that, Gu Fan clenched the energy key and looked resolutely at Su Hui, hoping for her support.

With no other choice, Su Hui always backed Gu Fan at times like these, regardless of the decisions he made.

With Su Hui’s support, Gu Fan felt more confident, so they both headed straight out, drove to where David and the space-time door were located.

However, how could Helen not notice Gu Fan and Su Hui leaving? She saw through the window as they drove off together, which deepened her suspicions, "Gu Fan, you’re quite the sly one. You don’t think I’m unaware of the purpose of this key, do you? I’m certain of one thing—that the space-time door still exists, and it’s about to be completed, that’s why you’re so anxious for this key. Have you not considered why I would give it to you?"
