Chapter 864: Chapter 864 Unusual Actions

That day, Gu Fan was anxiously waiting at home because, according to the schedule, it was time for Gu Ling to come home to sleep, but she was nowhere to be seen.

Gu Fan had a bad premonition, and then his cellphone started ringing. Seeing that it was Qian Ye on the caller ID, his uneasy feeling intensified. Gu Ling was still not home, and now Qian Ye was calling. Could it be...

With a heavy heart, Gu Fan answered the call, "Hello, Your Majesty, it has been a while since I’ve heard your pleasant voice. What can I do for you? If it’s to reminisce, then forget it, I’ve been feeling nauseous lately."

"Gu Fan, I really admire you for managing to escape under those circumstances. But it’s a pity, isn’t it? You can run, but you can’t hide. I suppose you’re quite puzzled as to why your sister hasn’t come back yet," said Qian Ye arrogantly, with an air of having the upper hand.

Without even thinking, Gu Fan retorted, "Not at all, my sister just got back. She even had dinner with us. Why do you ask?"

Upon hearing this, Qian Ye paused for a moment before laughing uncontrollably, "Well then, Gu Fan, I’m going to hang up."

"Then hang up," Gu Fan said as he hung up the call, his face growing tense. He knew that Gu Ling was most likely in Qian Ye’s hands, and she would definitely want to exchange Gu Ling for the space-time door.

The space-time door could not be traded, and he needed to save Gu Ling, but how? Gu Fan knew that if he had continued the conversation, it would have allowed Qian Ye to set the terms for an exchange. And then he would have had no choice but to agree.

So Gu Fan decided to take the initiative and hang up, not giving Qian Ye a chance to speak. But the question was, would Qian Ye, out of anger and embarrassment, harm Gu Ling?

"What to do, what to do? Call back?" Gu Fan knew that once he called back, the initiative would be in Qian Ye’s hands.

With no other option, Gu Fan called Qian Feng’s cell phone. Since Gu Ling had joined Shennv Xuanhui and followed Qian Feng for training, Qian Feng was responsible for Gu Ling’s safety.

However, after calling Qian Feng’s cell phone several times without an answer, the calls eventually went through to a voicemail stating that the phone was switched off.

"No way!" Gu Fan then called Ning Qi, only to find that Ning Qi’s phone was also turned off.

Gu Fan realized something serious was up, so he immediately contacted Su Hui, asking her to track Gu Ling’s whereabouts.

The surveillance footage Su Hui found showed that Gu Ling had gone to Qian Feng’s place, and it was Qian Feng who had pulled her into the house. After that, Gu Ling never came out, and soon after, Qian Ye had called Gu Fan.

Considering the sequence of events, both Gu Fan and Su Hui knew exactly what it meant. It was that Qian Feng had sided with Qian Ye and helped her capture Gu Ling.

The situation was now severe. With Shennv Xuanhui supporting Qian Ye from behind, if they truly intended to harm Gu Fan, how could he respond? The game had barely started, and Gu Ling had already been captured.

It was too passive a position, and Gu Fan deeply disliked this feeling of helplessness. He had barely managed to maintain a peaceful coexistence with Shennv Xuanhui, and now it seemed they were on the brink of war again. This time, without Lin Xi on his side and facing an opponent like Qian Ye, the odds of victory were slim.

He had to think of a solution. As Gu Fan scratched his head, he was extremely worried about Gu Ling’s safety and considered if he should immediately call back and agree to Qian Ye’s demands for now.

Gu Fan knew that Qian Ye was also waiting for him to call, because Qian Ye was aware that Gu Fan cherished Gu Ling very much. As a brother, protecting his sister was a duty, so Qian Ye was convinced Gu Fan would definitely phone him.

"Strange, why hasn’t Gu Ling realized that the enemy is lying in wait, ready to pounce? She should have run away by now." Gu Fan scrutinized the surveillance video Su Hui had sent, noticing that when Gu Ling was approaching the villa where Qian Feng was, she suddenly had a premonition and instead of continuing, she prepared to turn around and flee.

Then Qian Feng appeared behind Gu Ling. Logically, Gu Ling should have been aware of the danger looming behind her, but she didn’t notice in time, which was unexpected.

After carefully watching the surveillance video, Gu Fan began to speculate. Either Qian Feng had controlled some method to prevent Gu Ling from sensing the approaching danger, or Qian Feng wasn’t a threat at all.

If Qian Feng really had a way to prevent Gu Ling from sensing the danger, she should have set it up in advance and let Gu Ling obediently walk into the villa. This indicated that the first possibility could be dismissed.

The second possibility remained: Qian Feng didn’t intend to harm Gu Ling, but was merely helping Qian Ye to capture her.

Even so, if he had guessed wrong, Gu Fan didn’t want to gamble with Gu Ling’s life. His palms were sweaty with urgency, and he glanced at his phone, thinking of ways to stall for time.

Gu Fan knew he couldn’t call the police, because Shennv Xuanhui held a special status, and he himself had been through a lot. Exposing Shennv Xuanhui would be like exposing himself, Lin Xi, and the big bosses; the implications were too vast.

Suddenly noises came from upstairs, sounding as if Helen had tipped over something. Gu Fan, struck with inspiration, immediately went upstairs and pushed open Helen’s room, only to see Helen squatting in a corner, prying off a wall brick.

Gu Fan looked on dumbfounded, then asked, "What are you doing?"

Helen was momentarily stunned before hurriedly stuffing the brick back in place, then lashed out with a barrage of criticism, "What do you mean? You enter a girl’s room without knocking?"

Gu Fan, visibly embarrassed, immediately apologized, but Helen was livid, hurling a pillow at Gu Fan and demanding he get out of her room.

And so Gu Fan was ejected, utterly bewildered. It was his house, after all—the other party was living there rent-free, and yet she was being unreasonable.

"Wait a minute, how did she know that brick in the corner could be pried open?" Gu Fan was puzzled; even he hadn’t known this secret. It was clear from Helen’s actions—having moved the bedside table—that she hadn’t just casually discovered this by chance.

Gu Fan also remembered that, upon barging in, he saw Helen shove something into her pocket, looking somewhat panicked as if she was hiding something.

Helen had never lived in this old house before, but the first time she came, she wanted to stay in that room, knew how to open the door, and even knew there was a brick in the room’s corner that could be pried open. What was the background of this woman?

Gu Fan felt that Helen was becoming increasingly complex, and perhaps her insistence on staying there was not simply to keep an eye on Gu Fan.

"Good heavens, why can’t my life be a bit more normal? Why must there be so much chaos? I’m so tired of this," Gu Fan couldn’t help but sigh. But the problem still faced him, and it still needed solving.
