Chapter 857: A Gathering of Evils
Chapter 857: Chapter 857: A Gathering of Evils
The Magic Cult’s Headquarters had been recruiting relentlessly over this short period, drawing in many from the pseudo region, resulting in an endless stream of newcomers each day.
Today brought seven fierce and vicious figures, all carrying themselves as though they considered no one worthy of their attention. On arrival, they bellowed, "Let the Devil Incarnate come out to welcome us, the Jianghai Seven Ghosts."
Upon hearing these words, Mo Yun came forth. With a glance and a furrowed brow, as if disgusted by the sight of these men, she still managed to politely say, "So it’s you, the nefarious Jianghai Seven Ghosts. I’ve heard of your deeds of raiding and plundering across the world, which have incited widespread fury, and you’ve been hunted down by many orthodoxy sects of Martial Arts. Faced with no escape, you choose to seek refuge within our Devil Cult?"
The Jianghai Seven Ghosts bristled at this remark, "What are you talking about? It was your Devil Cult who spread the word to recruit the villains of the world, which is why we came."
"Right, right, right, we did extend our invitation to you, and your presence surely brings honor to us," Mo Yun said politely, but her underlying reluctance was palpable. Although they were all from the pseudo region, there were tiers among them, and to Mo Yun, the Jianghai Seven Ghosts represented the most despicable tier, guilty not only of raiding and plundering but also of bullying the weak and vulnerable. She thought what kind of men were they?
"The Devil Cult sincerely invites us, and we, the Jianghai Seven Ghosts, have come with genuine intent. The Devil Incarnate should personally receive us," the Jianghai Seven Ghosts demanded, their stance arrogant, clearly acting as though they owned the place, which was unpleasant to witness.
Mo Yun knew that the Jianghai Seven Ghosts were quite capable, otherwise, despite many years, the orthodoxy of Martial Arts would not have been unable to deal with them.
Just then, a voice echoed from the grand hall, "Mo Yun, lead them in. We are in need of manpower right now, and their joining would benefit us greatly."
"Very well, I shall follow your orders," she said. Then Mo Yun gestured invitingly, "Please follow me. The Devil Incarnate awaits you in the grand hall."
The Jianghai Seven Ghosts were displeased. "What’s this? You look down upon us? The Devil Incarnate should come out to welcome us."
In response, Mo Yun scoffed, "Once you join the Magic Palace, you’ll be his subordinates, under the Devil Incarnate’s command. Since when do masters welcome their subordinates?"
Hearing this, the Jianghai Seven Ghosts lost face and were tempted to teach Mo Yun a lesson, but considering they were in the Devil Cult, they refrained from acting.
Resigned, the Jianghai Seven Ghosts followed Mo Yun into the grand hall. Upon entering, they found all doors and windows sealed except for the main door that let in some light. With the help of this light, they saw the Devil Incarnate, elevated on his throne.
"So you’re the Jianghai Seven Ghosts!" The Devil Incarnate looked disappointed, then sighed, "Well, it’s better to have someone than no one at all."
"What do you mean by that!" The Jianghai Seven Ghosts frowned deeply, sensing that the Devil Incarnate wasn’t welcoming them.
At this point, Mo Yun had already stepped aside, a smirk playing on her lips as if she was watching an entertaining show.
Suddenly, the Devil Incarnate sprang into action. Launching himself at one of the Jianghai Seven Ghosts, he seized the man’s head and lifted him up, then dragged the man back to the throne.
"Devil Incarnate, what are you doing!" The Jianghai Seven Ghosts were furious, charging forward together, but what they saw next stopped them in their tracks. The eyes of the Devil Incarnate had turned entirely black, and his mouth revealed sharp fangs. Biting into the man’s neck, his expression turned as ferocious as that of a wild beast.
Seeing this scene, even the brutal Jianghai Seven Wraiths were afraid. Following a loud noise, the gate behind them closed, and their surroundings were suddenly plunged into darkness.
Within moments, all of the Jianghai Seven Wraiths lay defeated on the ground with wounds on their necks, convulsing continuously, clearly in great discomfort.
The Devil Incarnate wiped the corner of his mouth, a look of satisfaction on his face. Standing beside him was a Westerner with an impassive face, watching everything unfold with apparent displeasure. This Westerner was Xue Lang. He spoke in a solemn tone, "Devil Incarnate, you’re being too reckless. I asked you to recruit followers and transform them into the same kind as the Xue Clan, not to deal fatal blows to them."
The Devil Incarnate appeared unconcerned, "I also need to drink some blood, and besides, these seven individuals are of mediocre talent. They may not survive the transformation process. Why be so troubled over it, Xue Lang?"
Upon hearing this, Xue Lang snorted coldly, "Devil Incarnate, don’t forget that you are serving our Xue Clan. Please do not act recklessly."
In an instant, an explosion of movement occurred as the Devil Incarnate charged forward. His speed was incredibly fast, astonishingly so, making it almost impossible to trace his movements.
However, Xue Lang saw it coming. He immediately shifted his stance and retreated hastily, while launching a punch at the same time.
"You think you can compete with me?" the Devil Incarnate countered with a punch of his own, clashing head-on with Xue Lang. The result was staggering; the Devil Incarnate’s strength was so immense that he sent Xue Lang flying, shattering his arm in the process.
"My God! The combination of Eastern Martial Arts and the strength of our Xue Clan has made him this powerful." Xue Lang was formidable, but in front of the Devil Incarnate, he was simply no match.
With one hand, the Devil Incarnate grabbed Xue Lang’s head and pressed him against the wall. With his other hand, he held a wooden stake against Xue Lang’s heart, issuing a warning, "Listen well. Even though you’ve given me blood and made me stronger, that doesn’t mean I owe you gratitude or absolute obedience. Let me warn you again, this is our home, and you have no place dictating terms here. I have never been one to submit to others. The Xue Clan may seek cooperation, but on my terms."
Feeling a sharp pain in his heart, and sensing the terrifying demonic Qi, Xue Lang was intimidated and nodded, indicating he understood the Devil Incarnate’s point.
"That’s more like it!" The Devil Incarnate released Xue Lang and then patted his head, further asserting his dominance.
Grinding his teeth in secret, Xue Lang spoke more amicably, "Returning to the matter at hand, we need you to recruit more individuals. Have them drink our blood; we need to expand our ranks."
Mo Yun answered, "Thus far, we have recruited a hundred individuals from the pseudo region. Some of them are highly skilled, but all attempts have ended in failure. I wonder if we are being too hasty."
Xue Lang shook his head, "We must accelerate our progress. The longer we take, the greater the chance of being discovered."
"Don’t worry, I’m already on it. But as you know, the difficulty lies in transforming Easterners into the Xue Clan. We need to take it slowly." As soon as the Devil Incarnate finished speaking, the Jianghai Seven Wraiths who had been lying on the ground all stood up, looking refreshed and vigorous.
"Is this possible? They’ve succeeded, and all seven at once?" Xue Lang was stunned for a moment and then showed a look of intense excitement.
