Chapter 846: Chapter 846: A New Assistant

"Wait a bit longer!" After pondering for a moment, Gu Fan checked the time, felt it was about right, and then nodded.

Su Hui immediately stood up and walked out, with Gu Fan following close behind. One after the other, they left the seafood restaurant.

At that moment, David was stunned, a bit dumbfounded. What did that mean, they were leaving him with the bill? Gu Fan, Su Hui, you guys are quite a pair, such a great understanding between the two of you.

Outside the seafood restaurant, Pike was beaten to a pulp. His eyes were swollen, and his nose was bleeding, but those few men didn’t stop; they continued to beat him ruthlessly. They were troublemakers and drunk, hitting with all their might.

"Alright, that’s enough; if you keep hitting him like this, you’re going too far." Su Hui’s voice made the thugs turn around. As soon as they caught sight of the Eastern beauty, their interest was piqued.

Pike lay on the ground, weak, feeling pain all over his body, but he faintly heard the sounds of a fight followed by a few men screaming. He didn’t understand what was happening.

After a while, as Pike was dazed, he saw two Eastern faces approach him, one of them a woman who was truly beautiful, which dazzled him.

"Are you alright!" Gu Fan asked, and upon seeing Pike trying to stand up, Gu Fan, out of goodwill, helped Pike to his feet.

Su Hui added, "Don’t worry about those guys; I drove them away. You can relax now."

"Thank you!" That was all Pike said, then turned to leave, hobbling away as he wiped the blood from his face.

Gu Fan chased after him, "Hello, you’re Pike, right? I need your help with something."

Upon hearing this, Pike stopped, turned around, and replied indifferently, "Sorry, I have to go home now, I don’t have time."

"I won’t take up much of your time. I just hope you could take us along when you go out to fish next time," Gu Fan had barely finished speaking when Pike’s expression darkened, and he continued walking, showing clear disinterest in engaging further.

Gu Fan quickly caught up again, "If it’s possible, we can negotiate a price."

Pike scoffed, "You want to secretly transport something, right? Sorry, I can’t help you. If it gets found out, I could lose my license."

"But you know very well that fishing in a polluted area could also get your license revoked, and yet you still went," retorted Gu Fan, receiving an angry look from Pike.

Gu Fan immediately clarified, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to belittle you. You’re right, I do have something to transport secretly, but it’s not the kind of bad stuff you’re imagining. It’s just a piece of equipment, I don’t want to attract attention, so I need your help."

"Sorry, I can’t help you," said Pike, his demeanor showing he was completely uninterested in listening further.

Gu Fan didn’t understand, "You’re willing to take risks in a polluted area for money, for your family, why can’t you help us this time for your family?"

"Because I don’t trust you, I don’t know who you are or what you really want to do," Pike answered firmly, then got into his car.

Seeing Pike about to drive away, Gu Fan grew anxious and handed him a note, "If you change your mind and are willing to help us, call this number."

Pike took the note, then indifferently closed the car door and rolled up the window. His expression and behavior showed no interest in Gu Fan’s proposal.

At this time, David finished settling the bill and ran out, "How did it go? Did he agree?"

In response, Su Hui shrugged, "It doesn’t look promising, but it’s not necessarily impossible."

"What do you mean, did he refuse?" David appeared very disappointed, but Gu Fan didn’t think so; he turned to look at Su Hui and asked, "What do you think are the chances he’ll agree?"

Su Hui gave a slight smile, "If he’s willing to risk it once for his family, there’s a chance he’ll risk it twice. He fishes in polluted waters, which shows there’s something off about his professional ethics. He knows the guests at this restaurant get sick from his seafood, yet he still uses that to make money. That reveals two things: he’s selfish, and he desperately needs money."

"Bold, selfish, needs money, and in a hurry to provide for his family," Gu Fan sighed, "This man is practically heaven-sent for us."

Su Hui agreed while David was somewhat bewildered, "What does it mean? Will this guy named Pike agree? Do you have a backup plan?"

"No, but I need to leave here immediately, who knows if the commotion we caused has drawn enemy attention," Gu Fan said, then looked at Su Hui’s beautiful face with a troubled expression.

Su Hui immediately grew annoyed, "What’s that supposed to mean? You asked me to take action, and now I’m the one who stirred up trouble? That’s not how you treat people."

Gu Fan hurried to explain, "I’m not blaming you, Sister Su, it’s just really awkward, some thugs were beaten up by an Eastern beauty, it’s obvious you, Su Hui, did it."

Hearing this, David looked at Su Hui with an odd expression, finding it too conspicuous, with her being Eastern, a beauty, and skilled.

Seeing Su Hui looking infuriated, Gu Fan wanted to appease her, but judging by her unwillingness to engage, he felt it would be difficult to smooth things over.

Just then, a phone rang. Gu Fan saw it was an unknown number and immediately picked up, overjoyed. As expected, it was Pike on the other end.

"Alright, I’ll send you the deposit and the agreed meeting place," Gu Fan said and hung up the call. He then waved his phone at Su Hui, "He agreed, we have a chance now."

David was elated, nearly cheering. The skies had cleared for them at last.

However, Su Hui snorted, "Gu Fan, don’t think you can distract me with the good news and make me forget the earlier upset, not a chance."

Gu Fan continued to charm, "Sister Su, I was wrong. Do you know? I’m constantly grateful to have you with me this time. If it were Lu Yi, the ’doomsayer’, I couldn’t have held up until now. You’re my only support right now, please don’t leave me."

At that moment, Lu Yi, thousands of miles away, couldn’t help but sneeze, feeling someone was talking behind his back.
