Chapter 836: Modify the Escape Plan

Chapter 836: Chapter 836: Modify the Escape Plan

When Gu Fan and Su Hui emerged from the small grove, they were so tired they could barely stand. Looking back, they felt a twinge of regret; the people from Haiyan Gang who had accompanied them on this mission had been wiped out. It was questionable whether the leader of Haiyan Gang thought he had made a losing deal.

"Gu Fan, this isn’t the first time I’ve wanted to say this, but if I could, if I had another choice, I would’ve never agreed to move to live with you," Su Hui said as she massaged her sore thighs, looking very remorseful.

Feeling sorry, Gu Fan responded, "I’m sorry, Sister Su, but look how thrilling our experiences have been! We even encountered the legendary Xue Clan this time, a once-in-a-century kind of extraordinary experience. We could write a book when we get back."

Su Hui couldn’t help but give Gu Fan a look of disdain, "What do you mean, should I be thanking you?"

"There’s no need for thanks, just less complaining would be good," Gu Fan had just finished speaking when Su Hui rushed over and pounded on him a few times, to vent her frustrations.

Gu Fan took the beating placidly and then said, "Okay, Sister Su, let’s save some energy to think about how to get out of here. We don’t have a car or support; surely we can’t walk to the place we arranged to meet David."

"Exactly, why don’t you get in touch with David right now and ask him what his situation is like," Su Hui scolded, making Gu Fan very downhearted, "Sister Su, if you hadn’t interrupted me, I would have called David a long time ago."

"What do you mean, are you saying I’m holding us up?" Su Hui said while rolling up her sleeves, making Gu Fan panic and quickly apologize, "No, no, it’s my fault, I forgot."

"That’s more like it," Su Hui said, crossing her arms and looking quite pleased with herself.

She’s intractable, better to avoid confrontation where possible, Gu Fan muttered to himself and then made a call to David. Learning that David was safe and sound, Gu Fan breathed a sigh of relief.

"All right, David’s fine, now let’s consider our own situation," Gu Fan said as he sat on the ground, his face grave with contemplation, "We need to not only get out of here to the rendezvous point with David, but also..."

"Also, we need to make sure the enemy doesn’t get wind of our movements," Su Hui said with a very serious expression, "If the enemy really is a tight-knit organization, they’ll definitely use all sorts of clues to track us down. For instance, if they know that Haiyan Gang is helping us escape, they’ll investigate Haiyan Gang. Through the movements of Haiyan Gang, they’ll find us."

"Exactly, experience is on your side, Sister Su. In your opinion, what should we do next?" Gu Fan looked at her expectantly, and Su Hui, pretending to be serious, cleared her throat, "If I were the enemy, I might already be looking for Haiyan Gang. Catching the leader of Haiyan Gang and forcing him to reveal the whereabouts of David and the space-time door, so we can’t rely on Haiyan Gang now."

After hearing this, Gu Fan frowned, "Sister Su, what you said makes sense, but we’ve already paid a lot of money to Haiyan Gang. If we don’t rely on Haiyan Gang, we also lack the funds to find another gang."

"This..." Su Hui also realized the difficulty and then gave Gu Fan a look, "Anyway, knowing the danger and still pushing forward is simply unacceptable. We’ll have to figure something else out."

"Alright, alright, we’ll put our heads together," Gu Fan acknowledged Su Hui’s point, but the problem was that they were really out of options at that moment.

After thinking it over, Gu Fan decided to cut off contact with Haiyan Gang immediately. He made a call to inform the leader of Haiyang Gang to take David to a safe place. Once Gu Fan and David confirmed with each other that they were safe, Gu Fan would pay the final payment to Haiyan Gang. As for what happened afterward, Haiyan Gang didn’t need to worry anymore.

Half an hour later, people from Haiyang Gang came to pick up Gu Fan and Su Hui, and under their arrangement, Gu Fan and Su Hui were able to successfully meet with David.

Upon seeing them, David couldn’t help but lament, "Seeing you two in such a sorry state, what on earth did you go through?"

"Don’t mention it, I don’t want to think about it," both Gu Fan and Su Hui’s faces were etched with fatigue, and then Gu Fan turned to the people from Haiyan Gang and said, "I’m paying the final installment right now. Once your boss confirms it, you can leave."

The people from Haiyan Gang nodded, and upon receiving instructions from their leader, they left indifferently.

David grew worried seeing Haiyan Gang leave, "What’s going on, Gu Fan? Why did you pay them the final payment just like that, why did they leave? We might still need them."

To this, Gu Fan shook his head, "The enemy already knows Haiyan Gang was with us, so they are of no further use. We need to find another gang."

David understood, but still seemed anxious, "But Gu Fan, you’ve given them all the money, where will we get the money to find another gang?"

"It’s up to our luck now," Gu Fan said with a wry smile, "The enemy is sure to crack down on Haiyan Gang now. I warned their leader as well, but whether they can escape is beyond my help."

Su Hui chimed in, "Haiyan Gang took the money and should’ve taken the associated risks; they were aware of the dangers beforehand. After all, they are a gang, and we can’t be blamed for dragging them into this."

David nodded in agreement, "Since the enemy might find us through Haiyan Gang, it’s right to break off contact with them."

"If Haiyan Gang loses track of us and doesn’t know where we went, maybe the enemy will leave them be as well," Gu Fan shared his thought, feeling somewhat guilty as none from Haiyan Gang who had joined them had survived. Even though Haiyan Gang failed to fully fulfill their agreement, Gu Fan still paid them the full amount.

"Enough about Haiyan Gang, let’s worry about ourselves now. We’re not going to get out of here by relying solely on our strength," Su Hui added, her words not very encouraging.

Gu Fan scratched his head and then said, "I don’t know what to do next, but the first thing is to get out of here fast. I have a feeling that the enemy will find Haiyan Gang soon."

An hour later, just as Gu Fan had predicted, Qian Ye arrived with her people and found those from Haiyan Gang. She overcome them with absolute force, but she was a step late; Haiyan Gang no longer knew where Gu Fan and the others had gone.

"Clever boy, you ran quite fast, but did you think you could escape my grasp?" Qian Ye was not annoyed but seemed intrigued, feeling that this made the game more interesting, wasn’t the cat-and-mouse chase fun?
