Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 770: Friend or Foe

Chapter 770: Chapter 770: Friend or Foe

Gu Fan took a deep breath to calm himself, then whipped around and kicked out without aiming, only to meet thin air.

"How could this be?" Gu Fan was flabbergasted. He was sure something had hit the back of his head.

But no matter, Gu Fan continued to walk forward, his heart pounding with apprehension. He knew similar incidents were yet to take place.

As expected, something did hit his head from behind. Gu Fan immediately swung back, lashing out with another kick. Yet, again, he hit nothing.

A bead of cold sweat trickled down Gu Fan’s forehead, adding to his mounting anxiety. Knowing that he was being pursued by an enigma, it was impossible to keep going serenely.

So, he arranged three of the headless people to protect his rear while the other four led the way. His heart raced, and his footsteps faltered. Heer was fearful of what might happen next.

"Whatever you are, please stop pestering me," Gu Fan muttered under his breath, only to have his head hit from behind again. He glanced back to find only the headless people behind him.

"Did any of you see what hit me just now?" Gu Fan inquired.

The trio of headless entities merely nodded in the negative, sending a chill down Gu Fan’s spine. Could it be that this thing was invisible and untouchable?

Suddenly, Gu Fan laughed. He had forgotten that the headless individuals had no heads. Of course, they wouldn’t have seen anything!

What should he do? He couldn’t go on like this, defenseless and terrified. Gu Fan found it strange. If the entity merely intended to spook him, couldn’t it have harmed him more seriously? Was it just out to frighten him, or was it incapable of posing any real threat?

While he pondered over this, something struck his head again. It was a light tap, just like earlier.

This time, Gu Fan did not turn, instead focusing on moving forward. He stealthily pulled out his smartphone, switched on the front camera to check what was lurking over his shoulder. He nearly screamed in surprise when he saw a petit, rosy-cheeked child resting on his shoulder.

While his shoulder felt devoid of any extra weight, Gu Fan’s phone camera insisted that a tiny tot was clinging on it. Panicking, Gu Fan turned off the camera, pulled out a lollipop, and popped it into his mouth- an effort to calm himself. He wasn’t a smoker. But if he had to keep something in his mouth, he chose lollipops.

"Come here, I have some candy for you," Gu Fan said, pulling out another lollipop and extending it towards his shoulder. The candy instantly vanished. The sensation of the sweet suddenly disappearing from his hand made his heart race.

Upon checking his phone Camera again, he saw the child happily munching on the candy. As long as the child was happy, the situation seemed manageable. However, he feared being stuck with the child forever.

"Hey, little buddy, I have more candy on offer. Could you, by any chance, go somewhere else? I have a few things to do," Gu Fan pleaded.

Suddenly, a small voice echoed, "You’re clearly old enough to be my uncle, yet you insist on being called ’big brother’. Aren’t you shameless?"

Hearing this, Gu Fan felt insulted. Was he that old? But he decided to play along. "Alright, alright. I’m the uncle — the uncle who loves obedient little children. I have just one candy left, and I’m giving it to you. You don’t need to follow me anymore."

The child’s laughter echoed in response — eerie and malevolent. Hearing it sent chills down Gu Fan’s spine. Given that he was already targeted, it seemed unlikely the child would leave him alone.

Gu Fan checked his phone camera once again, only to find the child, sprawled on his shoulder, voraciously gobbling up the candy, seemingly harmless. But just as Gu Fan was pondering ways to trick the child into leaving him alone, the sweet, innocent facade distorted into a monstrous grimace. The child’s mouth was filled with sharp teeth.

"Damn it!" Not wasting a moment, Gu Fan threw himself onto the ground and rolled

The seven headless people watched, perplexed. Ignoring them, Gu Fan got up, checked his camera to ensure the child wasn’t on his shoulder anymore. It seemed he had finally gotten rid of the child.

However, he knew the child was lurking nearby. Illuminating his surroundings with his phone, Gu Fan kept glancing around. He managed to catch a glimpse of the child charging at him.

Caught off guard, Gu Fan twisted his body violently, barely avoiding the rush. He quickly aimed his phone at the spot, certain he would see the child there. And there it was!

"I don’t care what you are," Gu Fan declared bravely, and launched himself at the entity, kicking out viciously. He felt like he kicked nothing, but his camera showed the child being sent flying far off.

"Ha! I knew I could hit you." Seeing this, Gu Fan’s confidence surged. Although the child seemed terrifying, it was just a baby after all. Brandishing his smartphone, Gu Fan pursued the child relentlessly, delivering kick after kick.

The headless pedestrians stood dumbfounded, watching Gu Fan. If they had heads with which to express themselves, they would surely have been wearing looks of complete bewilderment.

At last, overwhelmed and overmatched, the child could only turn tail and flee, wailing loudly. This left Gu Fan with a confused sense of victory. Had he just bullied a child?

Well, they had survived another crisis. Gu Fan wondered what other misfortune awaited him before he could find Yang Xinran’s head. The thought of losing such a pretty face from their world... it was indeed a pity.

Just then, a flare shot up against the sky. Upon seeing it, Gu Fan was immediately elated. It seemed Su Hui, Gu Ling, and Zhuo Hang were on their way, and they were presumably not far off.

Qian Ye, perched on a tree branch all this while, also noticed the flare. She had been trailing Gu Fan all this while, watching him closely. Her expression remained impassive.

Surprisingly, numerous inhabitants of the mysterious ancient town stood in deference behind Qian Ye, seemingly subservient to her command.

"You all are so incompetent, unable to pose any real threat to Gu Fan even now. As we agreed, if you fail to fulfill your parts, I will not lift the curses on you," Qian Ye lectured sternly, her demeanor stern. The inhabitants of the ancient town lowered their heads, fear palpable on their faces. Barely managing to choke down their nervousness, they replied, "Yes, Empress Qianye."
