Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 731: Underground Research Base

Chapter 731: Chapter 731: Underground Research Base

In a seemingly ordinary overseas farm, the owner was cleaning up the place when he heard the sound of approaching engines. The farm owner immediately became alert.

A car entered the farm, and several people in black clobber got out. They looked around and found nothing amiss, so they tapped on the car door, signaling for the people inside to get out.

Gu Fan and Lin Xi got out of the car. Led by the people in black, they walked into the farm’s storage warehouse, and the farm owner showed no intention of stopping them.

The farm was just a cover to conceal the underground scientific research base, and the storage warehouse was one of its entrances. Gu Fan and Lin Xi were now in an elevator heading down to this research base.

As they stood in the elevator, the oppressive feeling of the descent made Gu Fan and Lin Xi hold hands, strengthening each other’s resolve to face whatever came next, together.

When the elevator doors opened, the three scientists they had encountered in the Triangle Sea Area greeted them in the hall. They all seemed very expectant.

One of the scientists was the first to speak: "We hope what you told us over the phone was the truth."

Gu Fan nodded: "I assure you we’ve been honest. But you must also promise that you haven’t lied to us."

"Of course, after we got the information from that island, we finished constructing the space-time door. We’re only missing the energy key now." Once they finished saying this, all the scientists turned to stare at Lin Xi. Their instincts hinted the key was in her possession.

Lin Xi smiled lightly and drew the key from her pocket. She was generous and immediately handed it over to the scientists.

When they received the key, the scientists were practically in disbelief, but their clear-headedness quickly reminded them of one thing, prompting one of them to ask, "If you didn’t need anything from us, you’d never planned on handing over this key, had you?"

Lin Xi countered with a question: "If it weren’t for this key, you wouldn’t be so willing to help us, right?"

They stared at each other for a moment and the atmosphere grew awkward. They could only laugh it off and move on.

Under the lead of the scientists, Gu Fan and Lin Xi soon arrived at a large laboratory where the space-time door had been fully constructed. It was incredibly similar to the one they found on the island.

"My God, you really did it, and so quickly?" Gu Fan could hardly believe it; he felt there had to be some flaw.

One of the scientists replied, "We had been researching it for quite a while and were only missing vital data. Everything had been going smoothly since we obtained the data from the island; without the energy key, we just couldn’t confirm its feasibility."

Lin Xi took a step forward and stared at the space-time door, then turned back and asked, "What do you say? Do you feel like taking a risk with me?"

Hearing this, Gu Fan replied in frustrated and yet teasing manner, "I’m already here, why are you still asking?"

Just then, another figure arrived behind Gu Fan and Lin Xi and asked in a rather rude tone, "You two are Gu Fan and Lin Xi, right?"

"You are?" Gu Fan and Lin Xi turned around to see a stern-looking middle-aged man. Their initial impression was that he was not an easy one to deal with.

Introduced by the scientists, the man turned out to be the person in charge of the research base, Havens. It was he who had gathered funds from all over the world to establish this research base. Without Havens, this research base would not exist.

Gu Fan wasn’t interested in these particulars and stated, "You must have established this research base after discovering the ancient Super Civilization, right? You created this place specifically to study the technology of the ancient Super Civilization."

"That’s right. The technology from the ancient Super Civilization is simply too advanced, and I couldn’t resist. However, what I didn’t expect was that, apart from us, other people have also discovered the ancient Super Civilization." As Havens spoke, he turned his solemn gaze onto Gu Fan and Lin Xi.

Gu Fan and Lin Xi felt uncomfortable. It seemed like Havens considered this his territory and felt entitled to give a hard time to anyone visiting it.

Havens continued to speak, "To be honest, the objects from the ancient Super Civilization are completely useless in the hands of ordinary people like you. It would be best if you handed them to us. We know how to handle them much better than you."

Gu Fan’s eyebrows furrowed, feeling underestimated. If it weren’t for the fact that they needed these people’s help, he would have retaliated.

With an arrogant air, Havens stated, "I am grateful to you for bringing us this energy key. Generally, we do not open our research base to outsiders, but we’ll make an exception in your case. Your mission is now accomplished, and if there’s nothing else, you’re free to leave."

Realizing they being dismissed outright, Lin Xi grew upset and reached out her hand. The key flew from the scientist’s hand back to her side, stunning everyone.

With an even more dominant and implacable tone, Lin Xi stated, "Firstly, I’m not ordinary. Secondly, we weren’t even planning on giving you the key. We are also making an exception for you. In order to work together, we must treat each other fairly. Otherwise, forget it."

Watching Lin Xi exude this much power, Havens’ face darkened. The black-clothed men and guards around them closed in, pointing their guns at Lin Xi. Havens ramped up his tone: "I don’t want to make things difficult for a beautiful oriental woman like you. So don’t make things difficult for me."

Seeing so many guns pointed at her, Lin Xi’s face darkened. She cast a spell, and all of the men were instantly suppressed by an invisible force, gasping for air. The guns they held fell to the ground, and one by one, the men slumped to their knees.

The scene startled Havens. When he looked into Lin Xi’s indifferent eyes, he felt a tremor in his heart. He finally believed what the three scientists had said earlier.

Lin Xi spoke casually, "I’m giving you the energy key. You’re going to turn on the space-time door for us, and send us where we want to go. That’s what we agreed on before. Please fulfill your promise."

Havens frowned. To back down would mean losing face, yet he also knew that a direct confrontation wouldn’t do him any good.

At this point, the three scientists stepped in to plead their case. Firstly, they really needed the energy key, and secondly, they needed willing volunteers like Gu Fan and Lin Xi to help test the space-time door.

As for confidentiality, the three scientists guaranteed that Gu Fan and Lin Xi were individuals with secrets of their own, and weren’t likely to cause any breaches.

"Fine, we’ll proceed as we previously agreed," Havens conceded unhappily. He believed that the secrets of the ancient Super Civilization were not something just anyone was entitled to know.
