Chapter 706: How Is It You Guys Again
Chapter 706: Chapter 706: How Is It You Guys Again
"Xiaoling, you’ve done a remarkable job." Gu Fan couldn’t help praising, and everyone agreed that Gu Ling’s presence in the team was a must, which made Gu Ling particularly pleased with herself.
Just as they walked out of the control room, Gu Ling suddenly was struck still and quickly shouted, "Wait, everyone, it’s dangerous outside."
"What?" Lu Yi looked around the empty corridors, seeing no danger, but he trusted Gu Ling’s words.
Su Hui’s heart raced, her gun ready in her hand, she then asked, "Xiaoling, is there danger ahead?"
"On both sides, and it’s getting closer." Gu Ling’s words made everyone’s hair stand on end.
Footsteps echoed, and the heavy noise made everyone’s heart race, not knowing what was coming, they all tensed up.
A pirate appeared around the corner, taking slow steps towards them, dazed eyes, difficult movements, a loose body, didn’t resemble a normal person.
"Hey, are you guys okay?" Lu Yi shouted, but received no response.
"Something’s not right," Gu Fan turned around to see another pirate coming from the other end of the corridor, their walking just as abnormal.
Suddenly, like wild beasts spotting prey, the two pirates bared their teeth and started rushing towards them, making animal-like noises that were frightening.
Su Hui fired several shots in a row but couldn’t stop the two pirates, who reminded her of the zombies she’d seen on the floating island.
"No way, are ancient Super Civilizations all obsessed with creating these things?" Lu Yi grumbled, knowing it was not the time for complaints, but instead for solutions.
Su Hui gave up on her weapon and directly engaged one of the zombies with her stick, with the others watching helplessly.
Action-packed as Su Hui was, her superior skills gaining the upper hand, she still couldn’t take down the zombie. It was finally Lin Xi who managed to send the two zombies flying.
"Okay, let’s get out of here." After Lin Xi’s remark, the group quickly stepped over a fallen zombie and left.
The poor creature that was the zombie, was trampled over by everyone and was incapable of getting up. If it still had feelings, it would be utterly morose.
As everyone managed to rush past, Gu Fan looked back and was shocked to see the same zombie that had been stepped on by everyone else rising to its feet again. It was just like a cockroach that wouldn’t die.
As they ran, Lu Yi asked, "Are these the previous pirates? How could they have turned into this, wasn’t the AI already shut down?"
Gu Fan replied, "It must’ve been the AI’s doing right before it was shut down. Maybe we would have turned into the same thing if we were exposed to that gas."
"That’s just too much." Just after they started running again, they suddenly heard the sounds of gunfire and wails from all around, which caused them to quickly move away from the area.
They wondered how the boss, Leng Le, Hai, Qian Feng, and Ning Qi were doing and whether they could handle this situation.
Du Jun then asked, "So what do we do now? We have to find a way to get out of here."
"Yes, we need to find a way to get out." Gu Fan agreed, as to how to get out, however, they would have to get out the same way they came in. There were three known methods so far, the first was to raise the island and exit through the front entrance, the second was to board the large wooden ship and the third was the original underwater escape route.
Head back to the control room and float the island to the surface? It did seem like a good idea, but with the multitude of buttons, how could they be sure which was which? This required a considerable amount of time, and what would happen if a large number of walking dead came their way, trapping them inside?
Take the underwater escape route? That was simply not feasible without any diving equipment.
Gu Fan was vexed as he could not come up with a viable solution. The AI was truly a bastard, using gases to turn the living into zombies, attacking the others. Even if the AI was turned off for a while, it could still continue to launch attacks on them.
As they were running, suddenly, the sound of many footsteps was heard from the front, immediately causing everyone to tense up and prepare for battle.
Unexpectedly, it was Qiao Ya, Dong Ni and Su Lei. What a surprise!
"How can it be you?" Qiao Ya was also surprised to bump into Gu Fan and his team in such circumstances.
"I should ask you the same question." Gu Fan noticed the three people behind Qiao Ya who didn’t look like pirates, arousing his curiosity.
Qiao Ya, aware of Gu Fan’s intense gaze, immediately shielded them with his body and said, "Some gases have been released here. After some pirates inhaled them, they started attacking everyone around them like lunatics. We narrowly escaped death."
"I know, we’ve just experienced the same. It was a narrow escape from death." Gu Fan said as he approached, making Qiao Ya very nervous. He even raised his gun, his face suggesting ’don’t come any closer, Gu Fan’.
To this, Gu Fan only shrugged, "What’s up? It’s not like, given our current situation, you guys want to remain hostile to us..."
"Of course not, but..." Qiao Ya found this difficult to explain.
Su Hui then asked, "What brought you guys here?"
Dong Ni sighed and smiled bitterly, "We ran into Qian Feng and she forced us to join her under the pirates’ banner; then she pressured us into coming on the island. We wouldn’t have wanted to get involved in this otherwise."
Seeing the strange expressions on the faces of the three men behind Qiao Ya, Lin Xi instantly sensed something wasn’t right and asked, "Who are these three men behind you, Qiao Ya? They don’t look like pirates."
Qiao Ya explained, "These three were hostages captured by the pirates, ready to be exchanged for ransom. But, as you know, we ran into Qian Feng and everything was put on hold. We had no choice but to bring them along."
After hearing this, everyone felt sorry for the three men. They had been captured by pirates and likely subjected to inhumane treatment. Just when they were about to be ransomed and go home, they ran into Qian Feng mid-way. Not only were they forced to follow Qian Feng in humiliation, but even the pirates did not dare to object. It’s possible that any pirate who had tried to resist was struck down by Qian Feng’s lightning, leaving them reduced to ashes.
But the three men remained silent as if they were afraid of Qiao Ya, this seemed a bit strange.
"Your explanation seems reasonable, but why would the pirates entrust their hostages to you?" Gu Fan squinted and then saw the symbol on the men’s clothing. It was the same as on the unfamiliar cargo ship they saw earlier, and he immediately understood.
