Chapter 671: Chapter 671: Your Relationship is Not Simple
Just as Gu Fan and Su Hui let out a sigh of relief, Lisa suddenly said: "Sorry, I’ve changed my mind." With these words, she moved like lightning, grabbing Su Hui by the throat and lifting her off the ground.
Su Hui, already injured, was totally defenceless. She felt as if her neck was about to be crushed.
"What are you doing, Lisa?" Gu Fan was incensed and tried to charge at her, but he barely took a step before almost stumbling, his legs weak.
Lisa smirked slightly: "Relax, just answer my question. You love her a lot, don’t you? That’s why you’re willing to risk everything for her."
Gu Fan frowned: "Can you stop joking around, Lisa?"
"You think I’m joking?" Lisa tightened her grip on Su Hui’s neck, making her pain apparent and letting Gu Fan know that this was no joke, insisting on a serious answer to her question.
Gu Fan was furious: "I told you, we share life and death, not the kind of relationship you think we have."
"Sorry, but by the looks of your dander, I just don’t buy that your relationship is just a matter of life and death," Lisa said dismissively, her voice heavy, "Gu Fan, I’m giving you one more chance. Answer incorrectly and I assure you, you’ll regret it."
Gu Fan hastened to dissuade her: "Hold on, Lisa. I helped you. You can’t turn against me that quickly."
"First, I’m a female. Second, I’m a devil. As a female demon, you should understand." Lisa’s cavalier demeanor left Gu Fan on the verge of rage, but the power to challenge her was not within him.
Lisa chuckled coldly: "Okay, enough distractions, answer the question quickly. I’ll count down from three."
"Alright, alright, stop counting. I admit I love Sister Su. Are you satisfied with that answer?" Gu Fan pleaded. This finally satisfied Lisa, but she didn’t immediately let go of Su Hui. Instead, she whispered something in Su Hui’s ear that made Su Hui nervous.
"There, I wish the two of you a happy ending." Lisa released Su Hui, who immediately ran over to Gu Fan to help him up, murmuring softly, "You fool."
Seeing the exchanged glances between the two, Lisa couldn’t resist saying: "Alright, don’t flaunt your love. Do you want to leave this place or not?"
Gu Fan nodded: "We want to leave, but can you tell us what secret is hidden on this island and why there are so many things guarding it?"
"Would you like to see it? I can lead you there." Upon saying this, Lisa turned around and confidently led the way.
Gu Fan and Su Hui hesitated, wondering whether Lisa was really being so generous.
In response, Lisa looked irritated: "Why don’t you trust me? You think I’d harm you two? If I wanted to, I could have done that just now."
This assertion held some merit, so Gu Fan and Su Hui followed, but their interaction felt a bit awkward, not knowing exactly what to say.
After much thought, Gu Fan decided to explain: "Sister Su, I was just now..."
"I know, you only said all that to save me..." Su Hui replied, defusing the awkwardness.
Lisa, Gu Fan, and Su Hui came to the entrance of a cave. There was a huge metallic door that looked like stone, flanked by massive columns. The misty environment made it impossible to determine their height, giving the impression of immense pillars supporting the sky. At the top of the door was a sculpture of a person looking down from a high place, their eyes radiating an expression of absolute authority.
The attire of the sculpture had the feel of an ancient Super Civilization, further assuring Gu Fan and Su Hui that they were in the right place.
Lisa wore a serious expression as she took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy door, leading Gu Fan and Su Hui inside.
Steping into this place startled Gu Fan and Su Hui despite being prepared. It was far more than an ordinary cave. What should have been total darkness lit up at their arrival, as if naturally ignited by the sun.
The place seemed ancient yet was still powered, an unmistakable hallmark of ancient Super Civilization technology, just like that on the floating island.
The passage was wide, bright, and clean. Gu Fan even touched the floor to find it spotless.
The interior of the mountain seemed more like a research facility than a dwelling. Along their path, Gu Fan and Su Hui noticed many statues. Some were walking, some eating and drinking, some reading documents, while others chatted and laughed heartily.
The placement of these statues was strange. They didn’t appear to be man-made, but rather...
To this, Lisa explained: "This is the laboratory of the ancient Super Civilization. Due to an accident, the lab staff turned into statues, which is what you see."
Gu Fan and Su Hui looked around, feeling a tad fearful under the gazes of these statues. They just wanted to understand what was going on and leave as quickly as possible.
At that moment, Gu Fan questioned: "Hang on, Lisa, if you came later, how do you know what happened here?"
"Well, when I had nothing to do, I used to fiddle with the equipment here and accidentally activated this," Lisa said, and pressed a switch. In front of Gu Fan and Su Hui, appeared a hologram depicting the origin of the lab and the incident.
Turns out, the lab was established by an ancient Super Civilization, which was experimenting with a method of immortality in secret, so as not to alert their competitors. Reportedly, there was another faction within the Super Civilization that was also studying the concept of eternal life.
The secret operation was because their proposal was rejected and outright banned from experimentation. Thus, they had to establish this place covertly. However, an accident turned all the researchers into statues.
Besides, the researchers practiced bioengineering, and they created the rampaging monitor lizards. Initially meant to guard the island, the creatures were left unchecked after the researchers turned into statues. They acted freely, killing everything they saw—truly brutal.
After Lisa finished explaining, she looked somewhat upset about the lizards’ behavior.
