Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 666: Communication Code
Chapter 666: Chapter 666: Communication Code
Sure enough, when Gu Fan, the big boss, and Qian Feng reached the tail end of the group, they found their way blocked by a gigantic rock—it was as if the path they came through had vanished.
"Damn, this maze seems to shift after all of us have entered it." Gu Fan gritted his teeth, his body taut with tension. He quickly grabbed the walkie-talkie and sent a message to Su Hui, instructing her to halt all teams from advancing for now.
Gu Fan then proposed that they should advance a little further and see if the layout of the maze would change again.
The big boss agreed to the proposal and Qian Feng, taking to the sky, observed from above. As Gu Fan and the big boss moved away, a stone began to shift, effectively cutting off the path they were heading towards.
While Qian Feng was still contemplating, she suddenly heard a roar. Her instincts told her something was wrong. When she turned around, she saw an object flying straight at her.
She didn’t have time to dodge. She could only gather her energies to form a Protective Barrier. But when the flying object hit the barrier, it burst, shattering the barrier and releasing a stream of gas.
Dazed from the explosion, Qian Feng inhaled the gas and instantly felt her body go limp. She plummeted from the sky.
Gu Fan and the big boss, swift to react, caught Qian Feng. They quickly checked her and found that she was simply disoriented, without any life-threatening injuries.
None of them saw what had attacked Qian Feng. As she slipped into semi-consciousness and a blanket of fog enveloped the area, everyone fell into a state of panic.
"Honestly, I don’t like this island at all." Gu Fan had barely finished speaking when Qian Feng regained some strength. She managed to stand without assistance, but she was clearly not in good shape. She was no longer capable of casting a spell.
At this point, Qian Feng was virtually helpless. Gu Fan could easily take advantage of her, not to mention the big boss. However, since they all had hostages in hand, no one could take any reckless action.
The big boss could take Qian Feng’s life without considering Hai’s, but if he did, Gu Fan would view him differently, and their cooperation might not continue. And on an island rife with crises and danger, they might end up needing Qian Feng’s help once she regained her strength.
Gu Fan expressed his hypothesis: "This maze changes its layout once the last group of people has passed through, effectively trapping anyone who invades the island."
Both the big boss and Qian Feng agreed to this conclusion. But the question was, how could they prevent this from happening? Should they bring in more people to stretch the length of their group?
Gu Fan thought it was a good idea, but they didn’t have time to bring in more people at the moment. They could only maximize the utilisation of their current manpower by having a few team members move back and forth after advancing a bit, creating the illusion of a continuous flow of people entering the maze. Maybe this trick could fool the maze.
The big boss thought that indeed could work. Currently enveloped in the fog, they ought to call for the twelfth team at the rear and tell them not to advance, but to move back and forth within a certain radius.
The twelfth team was bewildered by the big boss’s order. In the end, Qian Feng had to use her supernatural power to implant instructions into the pirate’s mind using telepathy; it was only then that the pirates knew what they had to do.
When Gu Fan found out that Qian Feng had this ability, he was completely awestruck, even suggesting he could be Qian Feng’s disciple.
Qian Feng agreed to take Gu Fan as her clumsy disciple. However, the mischievous grin on her face made Gu Fan realize immediately that Qian Feng must be scheming something by accepting him as a disciple so readily.
Indeed, Qian Feng had a condition. She chuckled slightly: "As long as you break up with Qian Ye and let the traitor of the Shennv Xuanhui suffer, I will teach you magic. I’ll even compensate you with Ning Qi."
"You are really determined to separate me and Lin Xi," Gu Fan immediately declined. Firstly, he truly loved Lin Xi, and secondly, if he broke up with Lin Xi for this, he might end up being destroyed by Lin Xi before he could learn any real skills.
"Alright then, I won’t pressure you." Qian Feng claimed, but she did not seem to have given up.
The big boss couldn’t understand: "Just how much do you hate Lin Xi? You’re determined to ruin her happiness no matter what."
Qian Feng snorted coldly: "She abandoned us all to seek her own happiness. How do you think that makes the Shennv Xuanhui sisters feel?"
In response to this, Gu Fan simply stated, "Lin Xi’s pursuit of happiness isn’t hindering any of you from seeking your own happiness. You all can find someone who you love and who loves you back, get married, have children, and then..."
Qian Feng immediately retorted: "Damn you, if the sisters all leave to find true love, what’s the point of the Shennv Xuanhui anymore?"
Gu Fan appeared nonchalant: "I think such an organization is unsuitable for the current society. Maybe it’s best to dissolve it."
"Don’t think I won’t hit you just because we’re allies now." Qian Feng was quite angry, showing a confrontational expression.
Seeing the disagreement escalating, the big boss quickly stepped in to mediate: "Alright, alright, let’s focus on whether we should move forward or retreat for now."
Gu Fan felt that retreating now would mean losing an opportunity. They didn’t know when the mist would appear again in the future, so he believed they should continue moving forward.
On the other hand, Qian Feng thought it was better to be safe than sorry. They already gained valuable knowledge about the operation of the stone forest maze from this attempt, so they would be better prepared for the next time—in her view, it would be better to retreat now.
Gu Fan and Qian Feng held differing views, and neither could convince the other. The big boss regretted asking the question, feeling a headache coming on.
However, after a five-minute deadlock, Gu Fan chose to concede. He agreed to retreat. The sudden change in his attitude surprised everyone.
On the surface, Gu Fan justified his decision by claiming that for the sake of unity, he was willing to make compromises—creating an image of a man who understood the bigger picture. But in reality, every time there was a quarrel or conflict, Gu Fan was always the one who gave in—first to Lin Xi, then Su Hui, and then to Gu Ling. In the end, Gu Fan would always back down whenever he had a disagreement with a woman.
Qian Feng didn’t develop any affection for Gu Fan because of his concession. In her heart, this was a great victory.
Suddenly, desperate shouts echoed from the walkie-talkie along with gunshots. The noise seemed to be coming from where they’d left their ships. This situation immediately set everyone’s nerves on edge.
What had happened? Had something attacked the ships and those left to guard them? Was their retreat path being cut off?
They absolutely couldn’t lose their ships. Gu Fan immediately grabbed the walkie-talkie and sent out a distress signal, indicating that everyone should retreat and that it was unsafe to linger there any longer.
