Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 637: Settling Accounts After the Fact
Chapter 637: Chapter 637: Settling Accounts After the Fact
Although it was challenging for the Wandering Sea Ghosts to exert their full force underwater, they tirelessly battered the bottom of the cargo ship owned by Lengbing Ocean Shipping Company. They had already left several markings, and it was only a matter of time before they breached the bottom of the ship.
In this urgent situation, Su Hui had a plan. She put on a rubber suit and held an electrical cable, installing it on the lowest level of the ship.
Hearing the echoing blows against the ship’s hull and the enraged howls of the Wandering Sea Ghosts, Su Hui felt the pressure. However, she knew that the more chaotic the situation, the more crucial it was to stay calm. She worked methodically and as swiftly as possible.
"Switch it on!" Su Hui shouted into her walkie-talkie, and Leng Le, following her command, instantly switched on the electricity.
The Sea Ghosts lurking under the ship’s hull, about to launch further attacks, were suddenly jolted by a powerful electrical current. They writhed spasmodically, and their ferocious momentum was instantly extinguished.
The Sea Ghosts that hadn’t attacked retreated immediately upon witnessing their companions’ plight. They quickly distanced themselves from the ship, knowing it was now a threat, and fled.
Meanwhile, the Boss, completely outmatched by Lisa underwater, was now being pulled deeper into the sea. At this rate, it was certain doom; he would be trapped forever at the bottom of the sea.
"You think you’re so powerful, but WE are the rulers of this sea. You’re finished." Lisa just declared her victory when suddenly she heard the terrified voices of the other Sea Ghosts. She looked up and saw some Sea Ghosts fleeing in panic while others quivered in place, clearly something was wrong.
Lisa didn’t know what was happening, but she knew it was urgent. So, she let the Boss go and quickly swam towards the commotion.
The Boss was grateful when Lisa left. He quickly swam to the surface, taking in huge gulps of air the moment he emerged.
Truth be told, on land, Lisa was no match for the Boss. But in the sea, the Boss didn’t stand a chance.
The Boss didn’t dare to linger on the sea surface. He rushed back to his ship. Just then, Leng Le switched off the electricity. All the Sea Ghosts that were severely shocked, fled in terror and dared not return.
By the time the Boss boarded the cargo ship, Lisa and the remaining Sea Ghosts had returned to their pes, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
But did they truly win? Gu Fan glanced at the team’s condition; everyone was injured with bruises all over.
The battle had been tough. They had succeeded in saving Leng Le and the Bull, one of the captain’s close friends, but they had been unable to save the others from the clutches of the Wandering Sea Ghosts.
Moreover, the Boss’s crew had lost five men and Gu Fan had lost two sailors. The cost was heavy.
The silver lining was that the Boss had managed to kill four Wandering Sea Ghosts, delivering a serious blow to Lisa’s team. Through this, everyone had a better understanding of how to deal with these creatures.
Unexpectedly, dawn had arrived, and everyone was tired. Gu Fan suggested a shift system so the team could rest in turns.
Even though they had united against a common enemy the night before, everyone still regarded each other with caution, especially on the Boss’s ship. They didn’t let their guard down for fear that the Boss might go on a massacre if he felt provoked.
Leng Le seemed unfazed by this. Just as she was about to return to her cabin, the Boss stopped her, "Leng Le, where’s that blueprint and notes?"
"Sorry, Boss. This jerk Gu Fan has taken them," Leng Le replied awkwardly. The Boss didn’t blame her; he had expected this might happen.
Gu Fan took a deep breath, ready to go to sleep. But then, Lin Xi said, "Now that things have settled, you can tell us how you escaped."
"Well... I had to resort to some desperate measures." Gu Fan managed a nervous chuckle. Everyone gathered around, eager to hear the story.
Leng Le, who was about to leave, laughed at Gu Fan’s plight. "Just tell them what you’ve been doing these past days, Gu Fan. If you’re too embarrassed, I’ll help you. You and I were locked in a room together for several days. Nothing happened between us. The reason why we ended up there was because you proposed to Lisa that you wanted to have a child with me."
The Boss and the team looked at Gu Fan doubtfully, making him feel uneasy. In a hurry, he explained, "I was just stalling for time. With no sign of you guys coming to the rescue, I had to deceive Lisa. That’s the only reason she let me, Leng Le, and Jie live a few more days."
"Is that so?" Lin Xi looked skeptical. Gu Fan quickly changed the subject. "I wonder why you guys took so long to turn up. There was no issue with the tracking device."
Su Hui explained that the signal was unstable, appearing and disappearing intermittently. They had been really worried and thought they were going to lose him. They didn’t expect that he would save himself.
"Do you have any idea how terrified I was when I saw the Sea Ghosts drain a living person? I was getting more and more desperate as I continued to wait for you guys." Gu Fan described the harrowing circumstances, making the team understand just how difficult it had been for him to escape.
Listening to Gu Fan’s account, Lin Xi felt sympathy and seemed less inclined to question his actions with Leng Le.
"I can only say I was incredibly lucky. Just when I managed to escape, I bumped into you guys. If it weren’t for that, I would’ve had no other way out in the vast sea." Gu Fan tried to sound reflective, successfully diverting the topic.
"It’s alright. You’ve been through a lot. Rest now," said Lin Xi with a tenderness of a girlfriend, making Gu Fan momentarily hopeful that he had dodged a bullet. But her next words made him sink, "We’ll settle the scores when you’re rested."
"Yes, my queen!" Gu Fan dejectedly walked away, catching sight of Leng Le’s smug look, which left him fuming.
