Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 587: The Sudden Waves

Chapter 587: Chapter 587: The Sudden Waves

That night, those in charge of standing watch were on duty, those responsible for repairing the ship worked on the repairs, and those who needed rest took time to rest. Everyone did their part orderly. But the loud snoring from some made it less peaceful for everyone trying to get some shut-eye.

Yet, as morning arrived, the first thing on Gu Fan’s mind was whether the ship had been fully repaired. He didn’t want to be caught before they could escape from the pirates.

The crew had worked on the ship all day without finding any problems. This left them equally puzzled and disheartened. They even began to miss their old cargo ship.

"What should we do then? We can’t possibly row our way out," they all panicked and the dehydration was becoming unbearable, they haven’t had access to drinkable water for too long.

Food and water were crucial issues and Gu Fan grew anxious. He looked over at the captain, seeking his advice.

Helplessly, the captain admitted that their current predicament seemed to offer no immediate resolution to their lack of resources. They couldn’t hold out hope for another ship passing by either, since they were in the heart of the Triangle Sea Area. Any normal ship wouldn’t dare to come close. If a ship did appear, it would likely belong to pirates or even the otherworldly vessel they’d seen in the mist.

At this moment, Ouyang Jin gave a confident smile, "There’s still a way, but it is a gamble. Are you willing to take it?"

Upon hearing this, their faces brightened with hope, especially Du Jun. He almost took Ouyang Jin’s hand and sincerely told him, "Xiao Ou, we’re counting on you."

If we’re talking about sailing experience, the captain and the crew had the most. If it’s understanding about the Triangle Sea Area mist and the rumours, that would be Xiaohu. But when it came to knowledge about the islands in the Triangle Sea Area, that really was Ouyang Jin’s forte.

Ouyang Jin looked at the map with confidence and said, "I’ve been taking tour groups to the islands on the periphery of the Triangle Sea Area almost every day for a while now. I’ve noticed a pattern, the islands located near the East land have irregular terrain. It’s easy for them to form lakes after rainfalls. If we head east and disembark on one of these islands, at least our water problems would be solved."

Upon hearing this, everyone now had a glimmer of hope in their eyes. Lu Yi couldn’t help but quip, "Brother Ouyang, you finally thought like a competent guide. Finally put to use."

"Tch, as if I wasn’t worth my salt," Ouyang Jin rebutted. As soon as he finished his statement, the ship’s engine roared to life, as though it was intentionally dramatic.

The captain looked at the map. Feeling the strategy could be worth a try. Since they were already delayed, continuing with the initial plan seemed like a bleak prospect. He ordered the ship to head east, the further east, the better. Even if they didn’t get out of the Triangle Sea Area, it wouldn’t matter.

"Okay, we’ll depart and solve our water problems first," Gu Fan agreed. With no objections, the ship quickly altered its course.

However, Gu Ling had an eerie feeling. She leaned against the railing and peered down into the sea below.

Brimming with curiosity, Su Hui asked, "What’s wrong, Xiaoling, what are you looking at?"

Gu Ling shook her head, "Nothing, probably just my own imaginings."

Gu Fan tensed up after hearing her words, "Xiaoling, if you’ve discovered something, say it. Let us prepare in advance. Constantly hinting is what makes people most anxious."

"I wish I could! But this feeling’s really bizarre. It comes and goes and I can’t tell where it’s coming from," Gu Ling explained, still staring at the back of the boat.

Gu Fan immediately picked up a binocular and noticed there indeed was a ship behind. It would certainly be no ordinary ship to travel through the center of the Triangle Sea Area. He quickly called Xiaohu over to identify if it was the Pirate Gang that had given chase.

Xiaohu had a look and then shook his head, "No, the Pirate Gang doesn’t have a ship like that. It might be another pirate gang."

"Damn, there sure are a lot of pirate gangs here. We almost ran into another," Lu Yi groaned after taking a look with the binoculars himself. Suddenly, he was taken aback. A huge wave erupted on the surface of the sea, engulfing the unknown ship. It vanished without a trace.

Stunned, Lu Yi’s reaction made Gu Fan and others on alert. "What’s happened, what did you see that scared you so much?" they asked.

"The ship... it was there one minute and gone the next," Lu Yi stuttered. If his memory served him right, the spot where the ship had disappeared was the same spot where their ship had initially broken down.

Gu Fan snatched up the binoculars to see for himself. Apart from a submerged partial stern, he saw nothing else. After a more detailed scan, he could still only see the small part of the ship that was above the water.

"How could this happen?" Gu Fan couldn’t believe it. The sea had been calm, there was no reason for the ship to sink. What on earth had happened?

Xu Haowen suggested, "Could it be that the ship had a leak and that’s why it sank?"

Lu Yi shook his head, "If a ship sinks, it usually happens gradually, not this quickly. And a sinking ship wouldn’t cause such severe waves - powerful enough to shoot right up."

"Did something terrifying actually happen?" Everyone turned their worried gazes onto Xiaohu. Xiaohu’s face, however, also turned old with fear. He hesitated for a long moment, seeming too terrified to speak.

Gu Fan grabbed Xiaohu’s arms with a pleading look, "Xiaohu, if you know something, please, tell us. Let us prepare for what’s to come. If we know what we’re up against, we have a chance of surviving and getting you home."

Regretfully, Xiaohu shook his head, "I’m sorry, it isn’t that I don’t want to share, it’s just that I don’t know much. The rumours talk about the extreme dangers in the heart of Triangle Sea Area, but nobody who’s actually experienced it has lived to tell the tale. That said, pirates once told me that even when it’s calm and sunny, the sea isn’t necessarily safe."

Upon hearing this, Gu Fan rubbed his forehead with a look of frustration. He had heard from Xiaohu before about the unknown dangers in the Triangle Sea Area, dangers that were said to have wiped out an entire pirate gang in one night.

It wasn’t that Gu Fan didn’t believe Xiaohu’s words, but he found it hard to swallow that such bad luck could strike them. Gu Fan thought that if several pirate gangs could survive in the heart of the Triangle Sea Area, the dangers might be real but the chances of encountering them were probably low.

Yet, as they were just departing from the very place they broke down, another ship met with an accident. How could that not frighten them? If their ship hadn’t been repaired in time, it might have been them being swallowed by the sea instead.
