Chapter 532: Chapter 532: Waiting for the Old Friend to Come

"No way!" Gu Fan rubbed his eyes, repeatedly confirming he wasn’t seeing things. This house looked too much like his own old home.

Seeing Gu Fan’s surprise, Lei Na asked, "What’s the matter, Gu Fan? Come on in."

"Alright, I’m coming in," Gu Fan thought, if the outside seems familiar, what about the inside? As Gu Fan stepped in, he was shocked again. Even the interior layout was identical, the only difference was the furniture and decor.

Gu Fan looked around the house as if he was on a treasure hunt, making Boss Lei curious, "What’s up, Gu Fan? You seem very interested in our house."

Unexpectedly, Gu Fan blurted out, "Boss Lei, I wager, you didn’t build this house, you inherited it from your elders, right?"

"Yes, it was built by my father. How did you know?" Boss Lei’s question jolted Gu Fan back to reality, he quickly explained, "Because the design is obviously not modern, it seems quite old-fashioned."

Boss Lei nodded, "True, I’ve been wanting to demolish it and rebuild, but my father insisted we keep it. I have no idea why we should preserve it."

"Leaving it as it is must have some reason, perhaps waiting for someone familiar?" Gu Fan’s words made Boss Lei startled. He then stared at Gu Fan as if Gu Fan had touched on his biggest secret.

Gu Fan looked at Boss Lei, Boss Lei looked back at him. They held each other’s gaze for a moment, then quickly averted their eyes, casually changing the topic of conversation.

After dinner, Boss Ding and Gu Fan took their leave. On the way home, an elated Boss Ding, who had a few more drinks, thanked Gu Fan repeatedly. He even acknowledged that Gu Fan’s efforts had played a significant role in the company’s revival and promised him a raise.

Gu Fan felt a little overwhelmed by Boss Ding’s enthusiasm. Nevertheless, his heart was not focused on promotions or a raise. He was contemplating something, something that could have changed his past situation.

After seeing Boss Ding back to his hotel and confirming he would not wake for some time, Gu Fan hailed a cab, and returned to Boss Lei’s residence late at night, knocking on the door.

"Who’s there at this hour?" When Boss Lei opened the door and saw Gu Fan standing there with a slight smile, Boss Lei was taken aback.

Gu Fan said, "Apologies for the late disturbance, Boss Lei. Could we find a quiet place for a chat?"

Boss Lei hesitated briefly, then nodded. Together, they headed to the nearby park, which was open throughout the night. At this late hour, with hardly anyone around, it was a good place for a private chat.

Once Gu Fan and Boss Lei found a secluded corner in the park, Boss Lei asked, "What made you come to see me?"

"From your expression, it seems you knew that I would come, and you even hoped I would. That’s why you didn’t ask any questions and came to this deserted place with me." Gu Fan’s words once again stirred Boss Lei’s soul, prompting Boss Lei to sigh, "You’re right. You gave me a strange vibe. When my father gave me this house, he repeatedly admonished me not to demolish it, stating that this old house might help me find an old acquaintance."

Gu Fan laughed, "So, when I said there must be a reason for preserving this old house, maybe it’s waiting for an old acquaintance, that’s why you reacted the way you did, Boss Lei."

At this, Boss Lei nodded, "You’re right, I’m surprised. You said the exact same words as my father."

"Well, Boss Lei, I can tell you now that I am that old acquaintance. I never thought I’d find the Lei family I’ve been looking for all this time just like that. Seems like destiny," Gu Fan’s words left Boss Lei a little confused. A cold wind swept over them, causing Boss Lei to shiver involuntarily. He had a bad feeling and felt he should keep his distance from Gu Fan.

However, unable to resist his curiosity, Boss Lei asked again, "You say you’re the old acquaintance. What’s your connection with our Lei family?"

Gu Fan cleared his throat, prepared his introduction, and began, "Here’s the thing. Our family also has an old house, identical to your house owned by Boss Lei, both the exterior and interior."

"What a coincidence," Boss Lei finally understood why Gu Fan looked surprised when he saw the house, why Gu Fan was sure that Boss Lei was the old acquaintance.

This time, Gu Fan looked serious, "Trust me, it’s not a coincidence. Because our old house used to be inhabited by six families, one of which was yours, the Lei family." After saying this, Gu Fan took out his phone and showed photos of his old house to Boss Lei.

"They really are identical." Now, Boss Lei started to believe what Gu Fan was saying.

Gu Fan nodded, "Correct, it’s indeed fate. I wonder how much your father, Boss Lei, has told you about the secrets of our six families."

"Secrets? What secrets?" Boss Lei was confused, looking surprisingly at Gu Fan. This caught Gu Fan off guard, he countered, "You can’t be serious, the secret is always passed down from elders to the younger generation. Didn’t your father tell you anything?"

Boss Lei replied, "My father had an accident and passed away. He just told me to wait for an old acquaintance and keep the house. He didn’t say anything else."

Hearing this, Gu Fan frowned. He stared at Boss Lei skeptically, wondering if Boss Lei was playing games or really knew nothing.

Feeling uneasy under Gu Fan’s scrutiny, Boss Lei quickly changed the subject, "Gu Fan, I am not lying to you. I really do not know, and I swear on my personal professional integrity."

"Alright, I believe you. Also, I know very little myself." Gu Fan’s words instead piqued Boss Lei’s curiosity even further. Boss Lei pressed on, "Gu Fan, now that you’ve found me, what is it about? Why did my father tell me to wait for an old acquaintance, and what is the relation between the old house and the six families?"

To this, Gu Fan could only shrug, indicating helplessness, "Actually, my father didn’t tell me much either. All I know is that the old house we six families once lived together in isn’t simple. However, the other five families abandoned their property rights to the old house one after another, only we, the Gu family, held on. So far, the old house is ours. But due to various reasons, the other four families have returned, wanting to move back in, and even turning hostile towards each other, causing me quite a headache."
