Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared
Chapter 519: Ran Away Out of Guilt

Chapter 519: Chapter 519: Ran Away Out of Guilt

When Gu Fan met his father’s questioning gaze, he felt that the previous question was not just random. He was aware that his parents always worry about him, often asking him if he encounters any issues in life, once he became independent.

Now that Gu Chuanshan had brought up the issue again, it seemed nothing, but Gu Fan felt differently about the timing of the question.

Gu Fan planned to play it off: "They’re all minor issues in life. I can handle them, and I’m fully capable of living independently."

"Really? That’s great. If there’s anything you can’t solve, just let us know. Don’t hide it," Gu Chuanshan’s words were filled with concern for his son, but they seemed off to Gu Fan as if he was deliberately hinting him to reveal some concealed matters.

"I see, and I know I won’t keep any troubles to myself. I’ll talk to you guys about it." After saying this, Gu Fan bid farewell to his father and made a quick getaway.

Seeing Gu Fan’s departing back, Gu Chuanshan sighed and turned away with a heavy heart.

Gu Fan initially planned to probe his father to unravel his defenses and learn about the old house. Yet his sudden show of attention made Gu Fan nervous.

"No way, could father know about everything that happened to me these past years?" Gu Fan wondered. However, he deemed it unlikely as his parents were abroad during these years; they couldn’t possibly know anything.

Soon enough, Gu Fan thought of another person. He picked up his phone and sent a message to Gu Ling.

Yes, Gu Fan was suspecting Gu Ling of having told their parents about everything, which was why Gu Chuanshan had shown such concern about whether Gu Fan had faced any problems in recent years.

At this moment, Gu Ling received the message, and upon seeing the words "Xiaoling, you traitor," was completely stumped. She didn’t understand why Gu Fan would say such a thing.

"Brother, I didn’t do anything to hurt you." Gu Ling thought hard but couldn’t figure why he would say that.

Half an hour later, returning to the old house, Gu Fan found Su Hui leisurely watching television while munching on snacks. He remarked, "Sister Su, you’re really bold to come back here. Aren’t you scared of being attacked?"

To that, Su Hui shrugged: "What’s the big deal? First, I’ve paid the rent. It’s a loss if I don’t stay, and secondly, they’re after you, not me. I’ve got nothing to be afraid of."

Her valid points left Gu Fan speechless. He sat down next to Su Hui, dejected, and forced himself on her snacks.

Seeing Gu Fan’s disheartened state, Su Hui tried to console him. "Cheer up. If the enemies come knocking, given our friendship, I wouldn’t abandon you and escape. That is unless we really can’t handle them."

"Thanks, Sister Su." Gu Fan was still listless. He’d thought about it again and again and felt something was off. So he voiced his concerns, hoping Su Hui could give him some advice.

Upon hearing Gu Fan’s confession, Su Hui was taken aback, "What? You think your parents already know about what you’ve been doing these years?"

Gu Fan nodded, "Yes, why else would my father suddenly show so much concern and ask me if I’ve had any issues over these years?"

Even Su Hui was perplexed by this. Ideally, his father should not be aware of it. But as Gu Fan had told Gu Ling about his experiences, the most likely scenario was that Gu Ling failed to keep the secret.

Gu Fan sighed, "That’s what I thought too. I couldn’t care less and gave that little traitor a good scolding."

"How could you accuse your sister baselessly?" Su Hui defended Gu Ling. But Gu Fan didn’t take her seriously, "It’s okay. We’re family. We wouldn’t fall out over a small misunderstanding. It’s not the first time Gu Ling has wrongly accused me. We might be angry for a while, but after it dies down, things go back to normal."

Hearing this, Su Hui felt that it was, indeed, reasonable. That’s what being a family was about, right?

Gu Fan pondered, "If it’s not Gu Ling, then who else could it be?"

Su Hui was puzzled, "Is it necessary to figure that out? Even if your father does know, regardless of who spoke about it, does it make any difference? Are you really going to hold Gu Ling accountable?"

Gu Fan shook his head, "It does matter. My father has been keeping things from me, and I’ve been doing the same. What I need to confirm now is whether my father really knows, and if so, how much."

Su Hui understood now, "So, you’re trying to probe your father’s secrets while also worried about him probing yours. That’s why it’s hard for you to get any information out of him."

"Absolutely. I was worried just now because my father asked me about my experiences these past years. That’s why I was so vague. I couldn’t find it in me to ask my father, which is why I ended up coming back here. And that’s what gave me a mental setback. If my father really knows everything, then I have nothing to hide. I can deal with it confidently then."

Gu Fan grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote down all the people who knew his secret, then eliminated them one by one. He could trust Lu Yi, Jie, Xu Haowen, Du Jun, and Qin Jia, so they were all ruled out. Gu Ling’s involvement was up in the air for now.

Ouyang Jin was nowhere to be found and impossible to run into. Old man Tian lived too far away to be considered. The only ones left were the big boss, Hai, and Leng Le. But there’s no way they would’ve spilled the beans as it wouldn’t reflect well on them.

Then there was Professor Luo. However, he was busy teaching and not the type to snitch. Gu Fan didn’t think he would contact Gu Chuanshan out of the blue, so he was also eliminated.

Last ones were Luo Jingrong and Du Changhui. According to Du Jun, Du Changhui had been abroad managing his business since he returned from Yuxueyun Mountain. He wasn’t likely to have any chance to meet Gu Chuanshan.

Gu Fan then sharpened his focus on Luo Jingrong. He’d been to Yuxueyun Mountain and knew about some incidents Gu Fan was involved in. More critically, he had associations with the old house. If there were any snitches, Luo Jingrong was the most likely.

Su Hui also believed that Luo Jingrong was the most suspicious. Undoubtedly, when Gu Chuanshan returned to the country, he must’ve caught up with his old friends, likely visiting Uncle Zhang as well. Then, he must’ve heard about Luo Jingrong and maybe even met him. So, Luo Jingrong might have divulged some matters to Gu Chuanshan.

"Wait?" A chill ran down Gu Fan’s spine. Luo Jingrong was privy to much more than just Gu Fan’s past. He also knew about Lin Xi’s special identity. What if he had informed Gu Chuanshan about it all?
