Chapter 497: Chapter 497: Throwing a Tantrum

As he returned to the old house, Zhang Yang seemed very admiring of it, looking here, looking there, touching this and that, and behaving as if he was touched by its scenery. This reminded Gu Fan of the old man from the ancient town, who acted just the same. Gu Fan couldn’t understand why everyone seemed bewitched as soon as they entered the old house.

However, Gu Fan was not worried that Zhang Yang would pose a threat tonight. He was confident that he could beat Zhang Yang, and besides, Su Hui and Gu Ling were there to help, giving them the upper hand with both strength and numbers.

Just as Gu Fan was feeling fully confident, he suddenly received two messages. One was from Su Hui, who said that she had work arrangements tonight and wouldn’t be coming over.

The second message was from Gu Ling, who planned to stay at Liu Yao’s place tonight. In short, she and Liu Yao were currently very close.

"These two pieces of trash, just decided to screw me over at this critical moment," Gu Fan thought, but it didn’t matter, he believed he could handle it on his own.

As Gu Fan was about to take Zhang Yang upstairs for a tour, the door was pushed open. Gu Chuanshan came in with a gloomy face, his eyes full of questions directed at Zhang Yang.

Gu Fan wanted to say something but felt something was wrong.

Gu Chuanshan ignored Gu Fan and went straight to Zhang Yang: "You’re Zhang Yang, right. Old Zhang told me that indeed you’re from the Zhang family, and your father also seems to have told you a lot about the time when everyone lived together in this old house, fueling your longing. You want to stay here for a couple of days, and I can do that for you, since Old Zhang and I are good friends."

"Thank you, Uncle Gu." Zhang Yang looked very grateful, but Gu Chuanshan’s face remained stern: "However, Old Zhang told me that your longing for this old house seemed to reflect a desire to move back in."

"Ah...." Gu Fan was at a loss for words, not understand.

Gu Chuanshan emphasized: "You should know about the agreement the six families made back then. Once we decided to move out, we should not revoke it. After all, we’re the last family left."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yang clenched his teeth, he knew his thoughts had been exposed. There was no point in giving a false pretense anymore in front of Gu Chuanshan, so he bit the bullet and said, "Yes, what Uncle Gu said is true. But don’t forget, when our Zhang family moved out, it was a last resort. We needed the money, and you took advantage of our situation. To be honest, our Zhang family never really gave up this old house."

Gu Fan still didn’t understand. But seeing Gu Chuanshan and Zhang Yang confronting each other, he was perplexed. What was wrong with having Zhang Yang stay for a few days? Even if Zhang Yang loved the old house and planned to move back, the property rights were with the Gu family, were they afraid that he would snatch it?

Then Gu Chuanshan continued, "When you gave up, the lack of money was one reason. There was a second reason, and you know it, right? So...I won’t say anything further. If you want to stay, you can, but don’t plan anything else."

Gu Fan felt uncomfortable listening to this, it seemed as if he were being ordered out of the house. He was really clueless as to how things escalated to this extent.

"Fine, I understand. I’m not welcomed here, so I’m leaving." Zhang Yang huffed and left abruptly, leaving the atmosphere awkward.

Immediately, Gu Fan asked, "Dad, what’s going on? Why are you opposing Zhang Yang, considering his relationship with Uncle Zhang..."

"Shut up! Out of respect for Old Zhang, what I did was considerate..." Gu Chuanshan roared. Seeing Gu Fan’s puzzled expression, Gu Chuanshan thought of something, calmed his mood, and said lightly, "Nothing, I’m just in a bad mood today. I didn’t get along with Zhang Yang’s father, so I’m quite repulsed by the idea of him coming."

"Really?" Gu Fan frowned, not entirely believing.

"Of course! Otherwise, why do you think I’d be acting out against Zhang Yang? Do you think I have nothing better to do?" Gu Chuanshan put on a righteous look, trying to ward off Gu Fan’s curiosity with his momentum.

However, it was clear that this didn’t work on Gu Fan. Gu Fan’s eyes were full of suspicion, and he asked, "Dad, I’d like to know what Zhang Yang’s father did that made you hold grudges till now. I don’t think you’re narrow-minded, why can’t you let go of a dispute from over twenty years ago?"

"Enough. Spilling the beans about old conflicts will only stir the pot, what on earth are you a child thinking? You should go to bed early. What on earth are you doing, making my life more stressful?" Having blurted out that, Gu Chuanshan left in a huff.

Gu Fan stood there completely baffled. He felt that his father’s scolding was completely uncalled for. He couldn’t help but wonder, "Is something wrong? Dad’s been acting really strange today."

Meanwhile, the angry Zhang Yang left rapidly, frustrated because he had been kicked out so soon.

Unfortunately, he bumped into Ning Qi and Qian Ying. They had obtained Gu Fan’s address and wanted to scope out his vulnerabilities, plan a way to break Gu Fan and Lin Xi’s relationship.

Ning Qi was initially worried about being given another yearning mission to seduce Gu Fan, but seeing Zhang Yang storming out of Gu Fan’s house, she immediately blocked Zhang Yang with Qian Ying.

"What a coincidence, Zhang Yang. How come you’re rushing out of Gu Fan’s house?" Ning Qi’s question and her suspicious glance made the guilty Zhang Yang flinch. He simply blurted out, "I was just catching up with Gu Fan."

Qian Ying commented, "Oh, really? But it seems like you and Gu Fan didn’t catch up very well, did you guys get into a quarrel?"

Caught off guard by her question, Zhang Yang nervously replied, "No, I’m just in a hurry to get back. Don’t overthink it."

However, would Ning Qi and Qian Ying believe his story? Ning Qi added, "Last time you were inquiring about Gu Fan, saying that you wanted to help me get back at him, but this time you say you’re catching up with him. So, are you going to defend me, or are you going to catch up?"

"This.... "The contradiction in Zhang Yang’s statements didn’t go unnoticed. He became flustered without any suitable explanation.

"You seem to care a lot about Gu Fan. Is there some other reason?" Qian Ying moved closer to Zhang Yang, her glare full of forceful interrogation, intensifying the pressure on him.

Zhang Yang was biting his teeth, sweating nervously while bearing the pressure.
