Chapter 375: One-on-One Conversation
Chapter 375: Chapter 375: One-on-One Conversation
They didn’t know when Lin Xi would come out, so everyone could only wait quietly, idly pacing back and forth or gazing at the ceiling.
The boss had tried many times to free himself from the handcuffs but to no avail. He was irritated but helpless. All he could do was signal Leng Le, who was hiding nearby, to help.
Of course, Leng Le also wanted to help, but with Gu Fan’s men surrounding them, he saw no opportunity.
"I’m going out to clear my head." Saying this, Su Hui left with a gloomy expression. Before anyone could react, she left the room but not before handing the handcuff key to Gu Fan.
"What’s wrong, what happened to Sister Su..." Gu Fan sensed that something was amiss with Su Hui. Something bad must have occurred to make her so upset.
From a corner where he was laying immobilized, the boss smirked knowingly, "Gu Fan, it seems you care a lot about Su Hui. Well, you should. After all, you’ve faced hardships together and have come so far, helping each other. Don’t you want to know what happened to her?"
After hearing this, Gu Fan hardened his expression and crouched down to meet the boss’s gaze. "Tell me, what happened?"
"It’s not good news. Do you really want me to say it out loud for everyone here to know?" The boss replied with a sly grin, appearing to anticipate a good show.
Without hesitation, Gu Fan pulled the boss up and walked him out of the room.
The others wanted to follow but Gu Fan stopped them, indicating he could handle it alone.
Leng Le frowned. If Gu Fan took the boss somewhere else, wouldn’t that give Leng Le an opportunity to help the boss escape?
The boss was hoping for just that. He yearned to be taken somewhere less crowded, where he would have a chance to escape. He secretly hoped that Leng Le would do something.
Gu Fan led the boss away and pushed him into a room, exhibiting a hostile attitude. "There’s no one here. Now, tell me what happened before we arrived."
The boss shrugged nonchalantly, "It’s simple. That Zhuo Hang, who’s presently Su Hui’s boyfriend, or should I say ex-boyfriend now, is actually my younger brother, and like me, he is also immortal."
Confused, Gu Fan replied, "What? Zhuo Hang is your brother? Didn’t you say you were the only one granted immortality in this world?"
The boss grimaced, "I didn’t expect Zhuo Hang to be alive either. I thought I’d wiped out the entire Eternal Life Clan. When I saw Zhuo Hang, I was surprised. I then realized that all this time, Zhuo Hang had been secretly working against me, utilizing both Su Hui and you to undermine my power."
"So you’re saying Zhuo Hang used us—" he paused as realization sunk in. Gu Fan didn’t mind being used. But the implication for Su Hui was likely heart-wrenching.
The boss continued, "That’s what Zhuo Hang confessed. Su Hui heard it herself. Why else would Zhuo Hang not be here? Why else would her mood be so off? Do you know what’s worse? To buy time to move something, Zhuo Hang used Su Hui to distract me, risking her life in the process. She was almost killed by me."
"Really?" Gu Fan’s heart sank. He knew Zhuo Hang was no ordinary man, but he didn’t expect this truth about him, especially considering he was Su Hui’s boyfriend. For him to sacrifice Su Hui to achieve his aim was unthinkable.
He remembered many times when Su Hui had seemed deeply saddened in her room. She had hardly managed to bury her years-long relationship with Yuan Cheng, and barely recovered from the emotional toll. Back then, she couldn’t love as she once did, as if Yuan Cheng had taken away all her emotions.
But then Zhuo Hang came along, opening up Su Hui’s closed emotional world. Her feelings were stirred, and she began to truly love someone again, only to be met with this outcome.
Gu Fan sighed, his expression gloomy. He didn’t know how Su Hui would change after going through this, and if this experience would turn her bitter.
"What’s the matter? Worried about Su Hui? You could go after her and see." The boss gloated, wearing an expression ready for a good show. Gu Fan gave him a cold glance, "I really don’t get why you’re feeling so smug right now. You’re our prisoner. You might never be able to turn things around in this lifetime."
"I don’t care. I’ve lived for thousands of years, there’s nothing I haven’t experienced." The boss calmly accepted his fate, then started laughing again. "But Gu Fan, I can tell, you share my view that immortality should not exist."
"You’re right. This thing that disrupts law and balance should not exist." After saying this, Gu Fan walked away, leaving the boss alone in the room.
Sensing that something was wrong, the boss started to feel uneasy. "This is strange, Gu Fan. You’re really leaving me here alone? Aren’t you afraid that I might escape?"
Gu Fan didn’t respond and simply left, leaving the boss alone in the room. The room felt eerily empty without anyone else, making the boss feel uncomfortable.
"Why, why?" The boss knew that Gu Fan was not the type to make blunders. But Gu Fan had indeed done so. What was his intention? Did he want to free the boss deliberately? But then, shouldn’t he have left the key behind?
It appeared that he now had an opportunity to flee. But, the boss still couldn’t break free from the handcuffs. His strength didn’t seem to replenish at all, which frustrated him greatly.
"Please, please, Hai, please come quickly." The boss’s only ray of hope now was Hai. He knew Leng Le couldn’t do anything.
But the boss still felt something was off. Every unusual thing Gu Fan did had a purpose. Could Gu Fan be baiting Hai and his people to catch them all in one fell swoop and eliminate all threats?
"That’s not right; something’s missing..." The boss couldn’t figure out what Gu Fan was up to, but one thing was certain: Gu Fan wouldn’t just leave him here and wait for someone to rescue him.
Meanwhile, Leng Le was also at work. She had a specially modified cell phone which she used to send her location to Hai, followed by a series of numbers, alerting him to the current situation.
Hai now knew where the boss was trapped. Even though they were outnumbered, he had no choice but to give everything he had. So, leading his remaining men, they bravely charged forward.
