Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared -
Chapter 361: Lost Companions
Chapter 361: Chapter 361: Lost Companions
Jumping from the roof of one building to another was exhausting, but at least it was safe. As long as they weren’t eaten by the beast-like people below, they could do anything.
During this, Qin Jia had a momentary slip and nearly fell. Fortunately, Du Jun grabbed her hand tightly and, with the help of Lu Yi and Gu Fan, pulled her back to safety.
Having narrowly escaped death, Qin Jia burst into tears at the thought of her close encounter with the beasts below.
Lu Yi couldn’t help but complain, "Du Jun, don’t you know how to protect a woman? You brought Qin Jia here despite the dangerous journey."
"Why blame me? Gu Fan brought his girlfriend too. We had Lin Xi then; she could have ensured Qin Jia’s safety. Who knew we’d be separated later on?" Du Jun fired back defensively.
Gu Fan quickly jumped in to prevent further argument. "Enough, both of you. We still have a long way to go."
Just then, Hai walked up to them, shaking his head apologetically. "I’m sorry, I’ve lost quite a few subordinates. We’ve also lost a substantial amount of food and water supplies, enough for many days. Be prepared for what’s coming next."
"No way, we can’t turn back now." Lu Yi’s face turned ashen. Gu Fan sank further into his thoughts. They knew their predicament left them no choice but to move forward.
No matter where they went, the beasts roamed below, which posed a daunting challenge to Gu Fan. Even if they found hope, how were they supposed to reach it?
After a half-day of walking on rooftops, they finally spotted a magnificent clock tower ahead. The building was unlike anything they’d seen before, a perfect blend of classic and high-tech design.
"Strange. All the surrounding buildings are ruined, yet this one remains intact," Gu Fan pondered, feeling that they should steer clear of the unusual building.
Suddenly, a figure began to leap from building to building, charging towards the clock tower. The wealthy boss, believing in his own invincibility, was trying to force his way through.
However, an electronic barrier suddenly spread out, blocking the boss and sending him plunging down, even his immense power unable to break through.
Witnessing this, the beasts immediately swarmed towards him. "My god, will he be okay?" Lu Yi muttered. As he witnessed the beasts being flung into the air, he nodded. "Looks like he’s alright, but..."
All eyes turned to see the beasts falling from the sky. A couple landed right on the rooftop where they were standing.
"Get off!" Without a second thought, Gu Fan kicked one of the beasts off the roof before it could stand up.
Another stood up, growling as it moved towards Qin Jia and Leng Le, clearly wanting a bite.
Seeing this, Qin Jia turned pale with fear. Leng Le, after brief consideration, retreated in apparent terror, trying to escape.
Gu Fan rushed over, slamming his baton onto the beast’s head and sent it flying, resolving the crisis.
"Everyone look!" Lu Yi shouted. Thanks to the boss distracting the beasts, their immediate surroundings were clear. They could finally take action. There were no more buildings to climb ahead, so they had to descend.
Getting down from the roof was tricky. Gu Fan and Lu Yi went first to catch Leng Le and Qin Jia, then Du Jun.
"Let’s go!" Gu Fan took the lead, paying no heed to Hai, Cui Qi, and their men, seemingly trying to lose them.
Hai grew anxious. "Gu Fan, where are you guys heading? It’s dangerous to wander around here without the boss’s protection!"
"Without food and water, the outcome will be the same, boss or no boss. We don’t have time to waste here, especially with the boss keeping all the beasts busy," Gu Fan’s voice showed no hint of hesitation.
Under Gu Fan’s lead, they made a beeline for the clock tower. The street was getting wider, and the growling sounds around them growing quieter.
They were getting close; the clock tower was within reach. Just as they were about to reach their destination, a group of people suddenly emerged from a side alley, startling them. Turns out it was...
"It’s you?" The newcomers were similarly surprised. It was Lin Xi and her group, but without Jie, Ouyang Jin, Xu Haowen. Only Ning Qi, Du Changhui, and a few others from the ancient town were present.
Gu Fan knitted his eyebrows. "Where is Jie, where are they?"
Lin Xi didn’t respond. She seemed hesitant, her eyes evading Gu Fan’s intense gaze.
Gu Fan felt a sense of foreboding. Du Changhui let out a sigh, "We were ambushed by the monsters. We got separated. They likely...." He trailed off, letting the grim implication hang in the air.
Gu Fan felt the world spin before his eyes, struggling to accept the taste of loss. Once he regained composure, he turned his anger on Lin Xi, "You’re supposed to be invincible. Why couldn’t you protect them? Tell me why!"
Without uttering a word, Lin Xi turned and walked away, heading towards the clock tower. Clearly, she too was attracted by the sounds emanating from it.
"Wait, you haven’t answered my question," Gu Fan insisted as he prepared to chase after her.
