Chapter 350: Chapter 350: No Way Out

Hearing someone cry for help, Gu Fan shouted: "Whoever is closest, help them!"

Unexpectedly, Du Changhui said: "The wind is so strong now, we can’t even step out, how can we help?"

Although this was the reality, Gu Fan thought they should at least try. Solutions are discovered by thinking, after all. However, the people swaying below heard Du Changhui’s words and felt abandoned by their companions. Dejected, they finally lost the strength to hold onto the ropes and screamed as they plummeted.

Having heard several such cries, everyone’s heart was stirred. How many people had to sacrifice for them to reach this point?

"Lu Yi, Jie, Ning Qi... answer me!" Gu Fan shouted their names loudly and breathed a sigh of relief when he got a response. It would be okay as long as everyone was safe.

Du Jun secretly clenched his teeth because Gu Fan did not call his name, which meant Gu Fan did not consider him a companion.

"Alright, let’s move on. Everybody, squat down and walk slowly." Led by Gu Fan, everyone used their hands and feet together to climb up the steps. Although this method was slower and caused some knee pain, it was the only emergency solution under such urgent circumstances.

Even Lin Xi crawled, her eyes serious as she kept staring forward without looking at the people behind her. She seemed to completely disregard the fate of the townspeople.

Gu Fan wanted to feel sorry for the townsfolk, but on second thought, why should he care? Was he worrying needlessly?

Like this, everybody spent half a day climbing, enduring the pain in their knees, taking rests along the way until they finally reached the top.

Once they reached the flat ground at the highest point, the wind did less harm. Everyone immediately sat down, rubbing their knees frantically as they felt both legs numbing.

Upon reaching the highest point, Lin Xi used magic to recover and observed as she moved along. She discovered that it was a very wide and flat place. Thinking about the cloud that covered the entire Yuxueyun Mountain, this place could not be small.

Lu Yi couldn’t help but remark: "Gosh, this place is so huge, how can it float? Is it maintained by supernatural power?"

At this, Lin Xi shook her head: "There’s no supernatural power in the world strong enough to keep such a large piece of floating island airborne."

Gu Fan interjected: "The place is vast, and the fog is pervasive. We’ll probably need considerable time to search here. We may run out of provisions, I suspect."

Hearing this, everyone’s heart sank. Yes, food and drink would indeed become a problem.

"Maybe there’s food here?" Lin Xi’s sentence immediately lit the flame of hope in everyone’s heart. But upon second thought, what kind of food could be preserved for so long? Wouldn’t it all be moldy?

However, Su Hui held a different opinion: "This place is very magical, there might be permanent food preservation facilities."

Everyone agreed with her, but the problem was, this area was so large, and they didn’t know if and where such food storage facilities existed.

Gu Fan sighed: "So, we essentially have to take a gamble. If we can’t find food and drink, we’ll starve to death here."

"You’ve got to be kidding me, I don’t want to starve to death." Lu Yi looked quite crestfallen, as did the others.

At this point, Du Changhui’s eyes held a hint of longing: "There’s another option that’s to achieve immortality before we starve."

Lu Yi immediately shook his head, looking bitter: "Gosh, neither option is viable."

"Okay, instead of guessing and wasting time, let’s get moving. This area is significant, I suggest splitting into groups. Regardless of whether or not we find anything after two hours, everyone must return immediately." Gu Fan’s proposal was agreed to by everyone, so they began to divide into groups.

Gu Fan, Su Hui, Leng Le, Lu Yi, Jie, and others were one group, who bravely chose a direction to advance.

"Wait, Gu Fan, your group is all insiders. What if you guys find something and hide it?" Du Jun wanted to prevent this, and got Du Changhui and Luo Jingrong’s approval.

"Yes, why didn’t I think of that, thank you for the reminder." With no other option, Gu Fan had to re-divide the groups. According to Du Jun’s request, they should divide into at least three groups, and each group should have some of their own people.

After a round of discussion, the first group eventually comprised of Gu Fan, Leng Le, Lu Yi, Du Jun, Qin Jia, and five people from the town,

Su Hui, Zhuo Hang, old man Tian, Luo Jingrong, and seven people from the town made up the second group,

and the third group consisted of Lin Xi, Du Changhui, Ning Qi, Jie, Ouyang Jin, Xu Haowen, and four people from the town.

Everyone seemed to have no objections to this division. On the surface, Gu Fan didn’t say anything, but he was still worried. Regardless of which group, the people from the town outnumbered their own side. If any conflict were to occur, their side would likely end up at a disadvantage.

Gu Fan was least worried about the second group. Su Hui and Zhuo Hang together could fight off more than a dozen people. They didn’t need to worry about direct confrontations. Judging from Su Hui and Zhuo Hang’s wariness, they would definitely guard against backstabbings.

What worried Gu Fan the most was the third group. Du Changhui was truly hard to trust. He feared he might resort to devious tactics. However, Gu Fan believed Lin Xi would stop Du Changhui from harming Jie and the others.

The chances of the second group running into trouble were slim, and the likelihood of the third group encountering issues was not high. After thinking it over, Gu Fan felt that his first group seemed to be the troubled one. If he had to fight with Du Jun, it would indeed be tough for Gu Fan to deal with five individuals. But he didn’t know if Lu Yi could beat Du Jun.

"Alright, remember, we meet back here in two hours, regardless of whether we find anything." Just as Gu Fan finished speaking, someone raised an objection: "What if all three groups come back without finding anything? Our supplies aren’t plentiful, what do we do then?"

Everyone thought indeed so. This method seemed unhelpful.

Gu Fan was then left contemplating for a moment before asking Su Hui if there were any more signal flares.

Su Hui gave a nod: "Yes, but not many."

"Alright, let’s risk it." Gu Fan looked serious as though making a significant decision: "We’ll distribute the supplies, including food and water, to all three groups. Each group will be equipped with flares as well. If you find something, set off a flare immediately. If nothing is found, continue searching. Be sure to find what we need before running out of food and water."

Everyone understood Gu Fan’s decision, that is, to press forward without looking back, as turning back midway might end up worse. Nowhere to progress, and nowhere to retreat.
